405 estate tailgate hinges failed

Post by fodtommo »

Hi all

I wish id found this forum before!! would have helped my many years of french car ownership!

I have just bought a 405 estate and the tailgate hinge pins appear to slide out to the point where when you park on a road with camber and open the boot the tailgate slides sideways and hasto be pushed sideways before closing

whats the best way to fix this?

The parts are available separately to your needs :

8715.75 HINGE ESTATE REAR HATCH
8718.26 PLATE MOUNTING
6936.70 CHEST NUT 8X125-8-13
6995.L0 LOCKRING DIAM 6

If I read the diagram correctly, the hinge should have a recess for the lockring, which prevents the hatch door sliding sidewards.
You may then need both new hinges and lockrings if parts are worn out.

Thanks - this helps a lot! - it looks as though probably fixable by pushing the splined end of the hinge back in + a bit of locktite and then getting replacement lockrings which appear to have dissappeared...
