Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

dont chuck the old fan/resistor pack away, as im 99% sure it will just need the transistors replaceing,

Hi all, anyone here ever tried to replace the diaghragm for the diesel primer that sits on top of the diesel filter ? if so, how did it go/ are the parts readily available ?

Mine is leaking slightly, enough to upset the pump at startup after the car has sat all night :cry:

Personally, if it were I, I'd go to the scrappy and get hold of the later XUD filter mounted on the thermostat housing (The Gasholder shaped one). You'll need the thermostat housing and priming bulb too but you do then get the distinct advantage of a fuel heater underneath the filter...

Hi there,

Message for Lawrence 1973

I have a Citroen with the Bosch as3 Vp20 pump with the Body aromour and Citorjim has informed me you have a similair pump. My current problem is removing the small hollow pin on the armour above the stop solenoid.

Jim suggests you have removed this in the past and maybe able to give me a tip or 2.

Hope you don't mind me resurrecting this thread, but as you are obviously used to this type of pump and I've not had one before !
I'm stuck with a permanent tickover of over 1000 rpm and a ludicrously long delay (to me) in the revs falling off when the throttle is released. The front damper has been removed and I'm looking at deadjusting...

A couple of days ago, I collided with a recovery lorry not far from home. It was snowing and in hind sight, I wish I hadn't gone out.

The 406 was pretty good actually. The radiator was pushed back of course, the bonnet buckled upwards and I felt pretty safe.

Definitely feeling the bruises and whip lash now though!

hey all been looking at these for a while real smart and loads of kit but cheap at half the price.

looking at a 2.0 hdi exclusive i think it was :P

Given the (relatively) short life and expense of a DM flywheel, if it was me I'd see if its possible to use a more conventional one from an earlier model, regarding the 407, perhaps one from a late 406 could indeed fit.

Just a random thought, although I do remember reading (possibly not on here) about a year ago, someone fitted a flywheel off...

Hi I got a P reg 306 D Turbo, when I bought the car the immobiliser had been bypassed the car worked fine for 3 months but now the immobiliser has started working again. I got a keypad type immobiliser any ideas to bypass it or to remove it?

It should now in theory stay unlocked unless you either flatten / disconnect the battery or plug the keypad back in.

The ECU will stay unlocked forever even if the battery is flat or disconnected if you unplug the keypad while its unlocked.

Like spider says it depends how it has been 'by-passed'

For a while now my sisters 405 has been playing up. Every so often it would start kangerooing, losing power, cutting out at junctions and revving itself up and down when the clutch was dipped. Other times it would run fine.

She had an auto electrician look at it and he said it was either a sensor or the coil pack. I had a suspicion it was the...

Right, another go with the carb cleaner today. Cleaned the pushrod and the port in the throttle body.

Started it up and it cranked whilst pushing through the carb cleaner but then fired up with no throttle (usually had to give some throttle to get it to start) but it went u[p to 3k rpm and stayed there for a min or so before coming back down to...

I've had both to bits quite a lot and apart from some very minor bits the main differences are all emissions related.
The DW8 will feel less gutsy as its having to breath harder to make up for all the emissions rubbish.
I've always found the pump is set differently, too. The XUD pump is usually set for just a hint of smoke where the DW8 is set...

I'm quite ticked off about this actually:

Yesterday, car running fine, driven over a hundred miles. This morning, with -7 showing on the temperature display, key in, glowplugs run, turn key to start and nothing happens. Que? Turn it back and forth from start a couple of times and I can hear a relay (a small one, not the starter solenoid) clicking...

Good to hear it was a quick simple fix, it's possible it may have just been a poor quality fuse etc, the same way you can have a bulb go at any time.

Hi

I am sure that this is acommon problem!

The reomte central locking on my '96 405 GLX estate has stopped working. For a while before it stopped I was having to press the key button harder and harder to get it too work so I suspect the key os at fault. I changed the battery and the little red light comes on?

Its not the end of the world but...

Point the key at a digital camera and push the button. Look on the LCD screen and you should be able to see the beam shining if it's working. I'm also reasonably sure there's a method to pair the key with the receiver in the car. They've maybe fallen out after the battery change :D

My 1.9 TD 406 has become difficult to start when it's cold, i'm pretty sure it's glow plug related , if i keep turning it over it starts eventually.
What i need to know is, is there a fuse or a relay that i can check?
I'm pretty sure the glow plugs themselves are ok because the car started fine in the morning in the snow but started to struggle...

No, only the 2.1 (XUD11) Mark, all other XUDs (and 8V XUs) have inverted buckets and shims...

Fun job to re-shim them, or at least it is to calculate the shims you need although I have an Excel spreadsheet to help do the maths...

Hello.

My son has a Peugeot 205 1.1 - TU engine with carburettor.

Recently the car has become very difficult to start. If you give the car any choke at all (even from stone cold) then it just doesn't want to know..

The only way to get the car started is to use no choke and no throttle. Eventually the car will catch and then you need to give it...

Hi all!

Would anyone know anything about the following:

I have this mad urge to put a 605 petrol turbo engine into a 405 automatic 1992-96 vintage. I'm pretty sure the block on the 405 2.0 petrol engines is the same as the 605 2.0 SRTi/SVTi (both 1998cc), and as far as I know they both have a 4 speed ZF auto gearbox.

Any engine/gearbox experts...

Seems to be air leak. Squeezing primer bulb until firm sorts out, then starts 1-2 turns.

However today needed 2 priming attempts.

If this is the case, is the air leak likely to be on the filter/pump/injector side of the priming bulb ............or fuel tank side?

I think my n/s cooling fan is dead. Symptoms are that only the o/s fan ever comes on at ~90deg (fast speed, parallel mode), neither fan comes on at the lower speed (serial mode). I have pulled out the relays and tested them all working, middle one had corroded contacts which I've sanded shiny but no joy. Checked the...

Went down this evening with a multimeter, 12v sealed lead-acid battery, some bits of wire and some circuit diagrams off one of the excellent threads on here.

Firstly I prodded stuff with the meter and couldn't make much sense of owt.

Non-starting....

One day you can go out to it and it will start first time and trundle around all day long with no problem, the next day it won't start, no dash lights, nothing at all, however, it will fire up as soon as you put jump leads on it. :?

First thought was the battery, this has been changed, and then the alternator but it's happened...

Hi guys,

I've done a lot of work recently on my Pug's brakes, and they've improved a lot. However the pedal still feels a little soggy, and I was wondering how to improve it. Recently it's had:

New shoes/drums/adjusters on the rear.
New discs and Greenstuff pads
New brake hoses at the front
New fluid, fully blead all round
New caliper sliders...

Anyone know where I could pick up the bulb holders from the instrument cluster for a 97 Expert van? Went to a main dealer here last week and they are lookign for €6.50 each. I tried ebay but noluck from anyone breaking experts.

According to the Peugeot service box, the part number is 611248

why do you need the bulb holders, i have just checked on service citroen with that part No. and it shows the bule and holder to be seperate items, this means the it will be a removable 1.2W cap less bulb as in the link below

The plastic 'chrome' on my 2000 406 (the trim that clips into the black door mouldings and colour coded bumpers) is looking rather tatty, its taken on a mottled appearance in large areas. Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement, I'm assuming you can buy this stuff on reels and cut it to length to suit.

The gearstick on my 2000 406 is very sloppy and imprecise, is this a common fault with a known remedy ?

That'll help us determine the cause. If it's the ML5 (fitted to the 110HDi typically) with cable change then it'll be the cables worn out.

Just aquired, 206 1.9 Diesel, the RPM travelling at 70MPH is around 3500 is this the norm? as i have a 1.9 TD Xantia same block but only around 2500 at same speed?

Thanks for that Jim, i dont know which engine model it is, it's on a 51 plate just pre HDI. By chance yesterday spoke to a chap at the petrol station who had the same car on a Y plate he too was around 3500 RPM at 70 so i'm not on my own!

ive tryed to flush out heater matrix with little joys of getting any heat at all ....new thermostat fitted a while ago so lets the temp come up at least ....how big a job to change matrix.......... is there a vacuum that makes the flaps on controls distrabute the heat to different areas as i dont hear one doing anything on my car the only place im...

I take it you've bled the cooling system well Paul. the matrix pipes are a common place for an airlock to find a comfy home. There should be a bleed valve on one of the matrix pipes.

Shame on a mechanic to take months to swap a heater matrix Ally :twisted: We Xantia lads can do them in a day comfortably and it's just as horrendous as a 306...

Just a quicky, can any one tell me if a 1998 406 lxdt would have an external temp display like on a 405 glx?? The 406 lx seems to have everything the 405glx had (air con, leccy windows etc) but just wandered on this one??

have already checked there is fuel at the pump by cracking open the fuel feed union on the top of the pump when it cut out.........it was dry ! .....squeezed the hand primer and fuel then flowed ????? I've got the offer of a 51 reg TDi manual air con version with 80k at the right money which I'm considering buying for my own use as a dual purpose private/work vehicle. Wants a bit of bodywork which I can do.
Anything to check/look out for on these?

ive got an hdi synergie on an 02 and aside from the nightmare sourcing a 3 piece exhaust for it and a stuffed fuel gauge(still stuffed) ive had no issues , does 30 mpg cold short journeys , comfy and easy to run, no modification bits that i can find and alloys are a bit thin on the ground

This is frying my brain!

Key in drivers door locks all doors.
Key in drivers door only unlocks drivers door.
Infra red remote unlocks all doors but doesn't lock any doors.
Remote arms and disarms alarm.

I'm guessing a bad connection or earth but any ideas would be very welcome.

I think you're right there Jim. Sometimes the remote will only work if the drivers door is half open. Sometimes the key arms the alarm without using the remote. It's all very muddled.. :roll:

Right - the time has come to replace the last of my 405 estates with a 406. what I would like is some advice on engines.

I am used to having only 1 choice of diesel engine - the 1.9td xud engine!!

Now I have 4 choices - 1.9td, 2.1td and 2.0hdi 90 or 110

Some weird goings on with my sisters 405.

She went to start it the other day, had a flat battery. So I took it off and charged it. After a charge it still only showed 12.6v so can only assume its had it, it did start the car however.

The problem is that removing the battery seems to have reset the alarm. Every time the door is opened the...

The fans are controlled by the Aircon via a Brown Bitron Sensor in the thermostat housing. This won't be the problem as a failing Bitron causes the fans to run constantly at top speed.

Last week my 106 was stolen from outside my house in broad daylight. It was recovered the next day and by the looks of things it was hotwired, so they didn't have a key and the windows weren't broken.
-Does anyone know if 106 locks were of the old kind that could be opened simply with a coat hanger?

GSF do an ignition lock T92802 in there 06 catalouge for 43.50 quid, or a complete lock set T87543 64 quid,

these prices might be slightly diferent as this is an old catalouge

exhaust fap filter any 1 know what resistance reading i should be getting

I've found a 2001 607 with 65k and 11 months MOT and 5 months tax. Looks tidy enough, though there is a scratch and the wheels are not too good apparently.

First place to check for broken wires is just before the multi plug connection in the hinge area of the drivers door. Peel back the rubber cover from the back of the multi plug & check the wires.
I've just recently repaired a couple of broken wires on our Xsara in the same place that were causing the central locking not to work.

New to the site so be kind. Just bought a peugeot 206 xs and we have one manual mirror and one electric mirror. we don't have the switch to move the mirrors but i removed the backing plates to the mirror to find a brown lug with 5 wires going into in. Would this lug be for the electric mirrors???? (ie, heated, movement). We are trying to find out...

My daughter has recently bought a 1999 2.0 se convertible and I was wondering whether anyone could tell me what security there is on it. There is no remote on the key and no key pad. Test drove my first coupe yesterday and such a shame it turned out to be a bag of s**t. 1495.00 at catterick garrison (dealer) on ebay and best avoided although they said thry would not sell it in current condition.

Bumpy ride as expected!!
runs at 105 - 110 degrees with fan on and on a cool damp day

Sounds like some serious problems there Marty. Oil light on at idle is very worrying. I'm presuming this is a manual V6 Coupe. If it's an auto and banging on changes then that too would be grave cause for concern.

One to avoid unless you can get it for silly money and desire a project.

Hi,

I have fluctating idle and the car seems a bit jerky at low speed. No apparent loss of power or fuel economy.

I've read on lots of forums about Sagem coil packs (which mine is) giving larger than expected voltages which can damage the ECU.

Corrective action is replace Ignition coils and ECU. Everyone recommends changing to Bougicord coils,...

I am sure that is it the power steering pressure sensor which is faulty.

Unplugging and plugging causes/stops the problem.

Power steering pump is belt driven and takes load. Sensor detects when more load is taken and engine increases idle to compensate.

Fluid levels OK and no bad noises so assume faulty sensors.

Drives like it use to now!...

Chaps,

Just bought an '03 206 Verve 1.4 for the Wife & Daughter to fight over. I'm picking it up this evening. Looks tidy enough with no panel damage, good paint etc, engine starts and sounds sweet enough, pulls well and stops in a straight line.

more likely to be a broken wire or three in the door shut, if this is the case make sure any fix you do patching wire in you attatch enough wire so all joints are inside the door pillar and not in the door shut, or they wont last long,
