406 hdi estate central locking gone haywire??

Post by deano1970 »

hi,
my 52 plate 406 hdi has gone haywire regarding the central locking.....was out in it yesterday when all of a sudden the doors locked, i unlocked them and they locked again......this kept happening until I got home.....now it seems to have settled into a routine....as soon as I start the car, the doors deadlock, the indicators come on and the doors deadlock.....doesn't seem to do anything else now, meaning I cannot even open the doors from inside the car until I have turned the engine off and unlocked it using the remote?? does anybody know why this would happen out of the blue?? thanks for any advice/.dean////////////

that is possible..... I did hit quite a large (almost a lake) puddle a few days ago....so that would make sense...is this likely to cure itself as it dries out?? thanks.....

hit and miss really depends on if the connectors become corroded as they dry out,

If you can get to the connectors I would initially spray them with WD40 (waits for screams of anguish and "Don't do it"!), and then, once everything has dried out properly, inspect the connectors, and, if they look a bit grotty, use proper contact cleaner and a toothbrush.

By the way, WD40 was developed to keep water away from ferrous metals on ICBMs, and the WD stands for "Water Dispersant", so, in this instance, WD40 is a good thing to use.

thanks guys...... RE the connectors....I wouldn't even know where to look for them, let alone inspect them and spray them with WD40?? tonight, after work, the car locked itself, then the deadlocks released, meaning I could open the doors from the inside without the need of the remote......now I have had to pay a few visits tonight and it seems to be happening less, though it did it just as I turned the engine off, which it hasn't done before.....I am off work on friday and would be very grateful if someobody could point me in the direction of these "connectors" as I haven't a clue....I did know what the WD stood for in WD 40 and I would like to give the connectors a good spray with it to see if it help, just need pointing in the right direction if possible please guys?? cheers............
