Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi I've just recieved the second key for my wifes car from the previous owner . They did'nt pass it on to the auction as it was faulty. The car is a 307 1.6 hdi SW the key opens and locks the doors but won't start the car , How can I get this working again and how much is it likely to cost me .Regards John .

You probably have a broken track in the instrument panel pcb on the speedometer area itself. The reasoning being by pressing the button you are flexing the board slightly, enough to make it work.

The mileage is stored in the instrument panel at this age, they are pre multiplexed.

converted my 406 2.1 to run with bosch pump off an xud 1.9

i know there are various controls on this pump and it needs setting up
it runs ok ish
but i am sure it would do better on fuel with setting up properly
where do we start an airflow meter perhaps
i believe to produce black smoke air fuel ratio would have to miles out and i know...

I'm not sure that the 1.9 pump is entirely suitable for the 2.1, the torque characteristics are very different, however I cannot be sure of this. Certainly the engine needs more fuel but increasing the max output is easy by adjusting the screw at the top of the injector pipe connections. I don't know if the advance curve is the same.

I have seen water coming out of the sills on a 406, we ended up drilling a couple of tiny drain holes in them :( , you could hear gallons ( ! ) moving around when braking heavily etc.

Can someone please help. I have a 1996 306 auto which has barely moved in six months. Two weeks a go i took it for a run and all was fine. This weekend i tried to start it and it just wont go. Its turning over but just wont start. I have replaced the battery but to no avail.

I got the jammed cd out but in doing so turned the black barrel with the slot in it . I assume there must be a position for this relative to the height of the disc platform HELP...

If my car is drinking more than a litre of water in 30 miles would it drive at 100mph with no over heating, smoke etc, i drove it and did see a line of water under the car.

I know, my 205 did this when I first got it (I was aware of this) , I did not drive it until I fixed it. Towed it away from the sellers house. :D

i got PUG 406 D8 year 1999 or may be 1998.

i dismantled the gearbox ZF 4HP20.
and i also dismantled the hydraulic unit.

i opened the side cover as in the link

the problem is that, when i opened the upper side cover.
all spring and valve fall out. i can not remember its position.

A bizzare one.. was just speaking to a guy at work, and he said his car switched off at 40mph for the third time, over the weekend.. at first I didnt pay much attention but..

Depressing clutch = stalled engine which as you say will cause that.

I think the key may have to be completely removed, although I'm not 100% sure to be honest on that. Seems to depend on the lock manufacturer and type of lock.

The pin itself cannot actually 'move' upwards if the key is turned to pos 1 or 2 as its shielded to stop this happening...

Unlikely to be a glowplug fault causing this on an HDi. More likely is either a fault with the fuel rail pressure sensor, the fuel pressure regulator in the HP pump, a cracked injector, or a duff LP pump in the tank that packs up when it's warm. If you can get it on a diagnostic computer with live data, watch the fuel pressure to see what happens...

Am I right in thinking that this engine is the same one as used in the Citroen Xantia HDi 110.

I ask as Ive got a 406 now and it doesnt seem to have the same pull as my old Xantia. It feels quieter and smoother so it may be just me.

205DT (XUD7T) , Lucas pump. Bit of an odd one this.

All of a sudden (as in today) its acting as though someone has wound the antistall a turn. Sudden deceleration causes a stall, but only until operating temp.

A quick check with a clear pipe shows no bubbles, the idle is smooth anyway.

The cold start advance (cable) is fine, it pulls it up to...

I have been trying to find a code reader for my 1999 406 2.0.hdi 110 with little success.
I have already bought an autel maxiscan ms509, but can only turn code off with it. can't read code.

do i need a specific reader for french cars of this age. if so, which one.

Hi, ive got a peugeot 607 2.2 HDI, ive fitted a replacement engine which came with the diesel pump, the car is not cranking over and goes into economy mode.

Is it true the diesel pumps are coded to the ECU and a replacement 2nd hand unit wont work with a different ecu

Car seems to run fine, picks up speed etc, not the fastest of cars but only 136 bhp and it is a heavy car, no smoke etc, the problem was the vacuum pipe that goes on the turbo was off, garage fitted seems OK, but still got anti pollution fault

i heard the slightest of clicks when setting off at a junction. Within 2/3 miles of stop start it progress to a bad knock when starting or releasing throttle (in gear). i.e engine drives wheels / wheels drive engine

First guess was whell nuts loose.

Then I noticed gear lever moving a lot when releasing clutch to set off.

It is the lower engine stabilizer area, and it appears the bolt through the bush is missing.

Just got to check with those 'in the profession' that it just needs a bolt tho' to attach the bar through the bush.

Hi to all, new member here looking for help.
I have a 4 year 207 been a good little car ,but lately im getting water in the drivers footwell after heavy rain, i've been told there are drain holes under the bonnet in the region of the windscreen that may be blocked, had agood look around but cant find them,
any help would be appreciated.

The 'usual' cause on a 306 of that was water entering the speaker area, not that common but it could happen.

I did think about that on the 207 but I've never really looked at one, I was out of the trade just at the time the first ones appeared.

Hi,

Could anyone tell me if the output to all the speakers from the amp (mounted in the boot(standard equiptment 180w)) is the same. I want to put new 6.5 inch speakers all round and wondered if it was possible. The reason I think it might not be is the speakers in the rear pillar(estate) are 4 inches in diameter.(speakers in front are 6.5 inch...

Take the car for a drive when you turn-off the engine but leave the ignition on the stop warning light comes on starts to flash & beep
it doesn't come on with engine running
is this norm or a fault on it
its an 02 1.9d 96k

I half think that's normal, although I'm working from memory.

It will flash on and off when driving ( ! ) if a door is ajar etc

Hopefully someone can confirm for sure. If its NOT on when running, its usually not a concern, it should come on with the ignition anyway (partly as a bulb test and partly as its wired through things such as oil...

Whilst poking about under the car I saw this, at the rear of the sill:

Is this anything to worry about, and how would I fix it? There is something similar towards the front of the sill. Never welded in my life, where do I start?

I've searched the various suppliers for a spray can for my wifes 307 Blue 5dr Rapier 52plt.

Code on the R/H pillar is KMF , the code is not listed.

So anyone know what is the actual colour name.

As you've found....

KMF = Aegean Blue. Used on the 406 Coupe so thats how I'm familiar with it.

well the gearbox has been rebuild and running like new but now i have load of oil all over the back of the engine and load of black smoke coming out when the engine is under load 9 days go before I go on holiday in Holland

All,

Colleague at work has a 1.5d and his clutch makes a wierd clicking noise when engaged now and also has an oil leak from the flywheel end of the engine. It looks and smells like engine oil and im wondering if the engine block seal at that end has gone and is causing the noise and leak?

Is this normal or is it likely to be gearbox oil?

Right I know this is really silly, but how do I change the front wipers on a 51 reg 406 estate?

I have looked around at various bits on the net and so far the only suggestion seems to be to unbolt the whole wiper arm.

Is there an easier way? If not are the bolts captive or do I need to try and catch them when undoing the nut at the top?

Well I feel a right idiot now. Managed to get the wipers to stop part-way by not using the intermittant setting, and then found one of the clips was jammed on, giving it the impression of being more difficult than it was. :oops:

I can't belive I'm asking a 205 question, my area too. :oops:

Does anyone actually know where this is (or should be!) on the 205N (the post 91 shape) ?

It is factory locking, ie: no solenoid (yet!) on drivers door, just the others and the hatch.

I remember asking a few people years ago about this, including a 205 specialist, who said its above...

Mines a bit awkward simply as far as I know its one of the first (UK spec) D-Turbo's of that shape, the year or so later things seemed to settle down. (Examples being it does not have vented front discs, although...

Hello, I bought my Peugeot partner van a few months ago and so far it has served me well until the other day for seemingly no apparent reason the engine cut out and left me stranded for the night.

The engine would start, turn over but die after a couple of revs. It starts well but only for a few seconds.
There is a red light on most of the time...

Have recently been building a 2.1td engine for my 305 van. Used 2.1 xud bottom end and 1.9xud9 cylinder head with 2.1 gasket. Had some machining done on the head today and in for surface reface/skim tommorow hopefully. Planning to fit 2.1td bosch pump and injectors with garret turbo and 306 hdi box with cable clutch.

Whats it done to your acceleration in low gears 1st to 3rd? me being a near 30 year old boy turbo diesel racer lol(interested to know before i fit). We always found the 305 was that light compared to 306 that it acelerated like it wasnt pulling anything so hoping it would still pull well in early gears and calm revs down for motorway runs

I have a relative in New Zealand with a 1994 306xsi petrol. It often won't start when cold, or takes a lot of cranking to start. It starts fine when warm.

They have spent quite a bit of money at a garage trying to get it fixed (apparently replacing parts at random), but there has been no definite fault found.

I don't know much about these cars...

Fuel pump relay although (usually around ECU in engine bay) is a thought.

Although if its only when cold my first thought is the coolant temp sensor (the one for the ECU, not the one for the gauge) , if its reading 'high' the ECU will not provide enough mixture for a cold start, but when warm will not have any effect really at all. I'm not 100%...

Can anyone help does anyone have a guide or can explain how the rear disc caliper cylinders are retracted into the caliper? Do I need special tools to do this? I am planning to change the discs n pads and rear disc brakes are not my strong point.

Hi Folks,

My 406 has some problems starting up in the morning. When I turn the ignition, it vibrates and knocks back and forth, but does not start up unless I keep the ignition turned with the accelerator pedal kept pressed.

The 'rocking' goes on for about 15-20 seconds before it finally kicks into life and revs up. This process gives off a lot...

guess what? i called my local peugeot garage (repair shop ...) today and they told me it was T50. Bought one and have changed on one side this evening! A bit tricky finding out how to retract the cylinder (twist and press at he same time ...)

51 plate Pug 806 2.0ltr auto.
Bought 12 months ago but recently gearbox acting up and temp gauge on dash travelling up and down.
Gearbox got so bad that it was refusing to drive on any sort of gradient but would pull away on the flat....

Hi,

Hi Folks,

The wiper blades on my 406 stopped working whilst travelling yesterday, nor could I get any windscreen wash water.

I changed the fuse and it worked once and then I heard a crackle from the fuse box and it stopped again.

I thought it might be a faulty fuse and replaced the fuse again for the same thing to happen again, i.e. one...

I disconnected the motor and then installed a new fuse. The washers keep working, and the fuse stays ok.

The wipers also keep working if the ignition is turned.

I disconnected a cable in the rear middle part of the bonnet somewhere beneath the wiper blades.

I presume it is indeed the wiper motor I disconnected, and the motor controls the...

iv had a look threw old post and couldnt find much.

i have a pug 306 td leaking quite abit of oil (making a mess) the whole rear of the engine is covered in oil but i gave it a wipe down and it apears to be coming from around where you can see the flywheel by the flywheel speed sensor.

any one had this before?,im prety shour thats a big job?...

If it coming out that bottom tin plate (you`ll see it underneath too, you can take the little plate off and see) then its the crank seal.

You do not need to take the engine out! , but you will need to have the gearbox removed then the clutch / flywheel for access.

I've recently changed the crankshaft pulley on my 1.4 hdi as I assumed that with it being a common fault, it must be the cause of the knocking sound. However, after doing so, i've still got the same rattle/knocking noise.

the cambelt and tensioner were also replaced too, as well as the auxillary belt and tensioner.

Any idea's on what could be...

Van is an 07 1.6hdi with 50k miles on it.
Engine management light was coming on and it was read - owner was told it needed an EGR valve. Cleaned the valve and it was fine for a few days but now light is on again and power is down. Owner got it read again and the codes are P0489 ( EGR control Circuit Low) and P1162 (Electrical Gas Recycling...
