Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Always wise to change tensioners and idlers when doing the belt. Learnt from experience that it is a false economy not to. Price of full kit is generally cheaper than buying parts individually and you'll have piece of mind that all parts will last the distance until the next change is due.

After my last failed attempt to get to the presure release screw (the V6 is akward to work on!) i now have a modified spanner to try and reach it tonight. Next thing is i was told to put the O rubber ring in first then screw the sphere in, which is fine on a normal Xantia, but on the V6 it drops down like a lightbulb in a sealing light would. So...

Looking at a 95 Xantia TD, ( as a donor car - for engine and gearbox for 93 TD SX ) that the clutch has gone in.
Current owner says he heard ping when clutching and then smoke from under the bonnet - stop lights came on and he stopped and disconnected the battery. He also says that the starter is now burned out. No sign of scorching etc around the...

If you don't have a decent tool kit and some DIY skill, I would advise you to get a garage to do the job. Haynes give it three spanners!!!. To start, you need to jack up the car and remove the front wheel. Since you are working underneath, you'll need the car supported. The inner wing liner needs to come off. I've had this a few times.
1.8 16v 1996 N Xantia.
Braking, you start to push the pedal the car starts to brake no worries, then its as if the car stops slowing down, so you go to push harder but nothing, pedal doesn't move so you mash it good & proper & head butt the windscreen.
I've has this like 7~10 times in the last 2 weeks, but not everytime...

I tried the sit on boot lip test, sat there for about 5 mins & nothing happened, athough when I got off it did rise again.
I started the car & tried with the engine running, it dipped then rose back up again, got off, it rose higher then came back to a normal height.

Don't think so.
I had cause to test one the other day and had one on hand. The plastic locating pins on the one I had were different to the ones on the car; both were off a Xantia.

So I put my 1.9td LX estate 166,000 in for it's MOT and it failed on four counts,:

o/s front strut mount is falling apart it looks like some of the pictures posted in the 'spear thread'
HP pump leaking
brake hose n/s wheel need replaced
rear hydraulic tubes deteriorated

It's apparently going to cost about £500 if not more to get that lot...

To depressurise the car put the height adjust lever to the lowest setting and run the car for about a minute or so. You then need to open the pressure release screw on the accumulator/regulator - it'll likely be a right sod to see let alone undo on the TD but it's there near the bottom nearside of the radiator and is a 12mm spanner.

Does your exhaust back box bang on the rear axle? I have now looked at about four or five of them, and they all look as though they make contact with the rear axle. Oh Bugrit- after 90,000 miles the clutch on the C5 (2.0 HDi) is starting to slip when booting the throttle, overtaking for instance.
Usual symptoms, revs rise but speed doesn't increase, then after a few seconds the clutch bites again.

Yep!

Seems Dual Mass Flywheels are prone to failure. The worst case I havwe had was on my VW Transporter T4. The beginning of the end was marked by a rough idle, and chattering back down to idle from part throttle. It had a new clutch and flywheel at 8k, 20k, 50k, and finally 95k! Xantia Estate '98. Wife has just come in - rear suspension down. The front cmes up and goes down - Citrobics. First time in high position I lifted rear up and hydraulics lifted it up to top, but have been unable to repeat this.

Is there an easy way to lubricate the cable for the bonnet release, or is it normally that stiff.

The release mechanism under the steering wheel is flexing that much I'm worried about snapping it. Just as I think enough is enough the bonnet releases.

Also, just to confirm my worst fears, if the cable did snap, I assume its and absolute P.I.G. to...

My mum has just got a Citroen C3 1.4 HDi 16v (under my advisement!), put your foot on the accelerator and nothing much seems to happen and then it takes off like a scalded cat. The shoulder lugs that hold the respective points of the sensor in check on the caliper should absorb a fair amount of impact if the cable is correctly routed - dont have too tight a bend or a short throw near the jump the cable makes to the fixed mounting on the face of the wheelarch. Just bought a new accumulator sphere from GSF for my '95 Xantia 1.9td. I have had a look at the forum and keep coming across the use of a 'square seal'. I have had a look at my new sphere and that was only supplied with a round seal.

Maybe I am being really stupid here and am about to get laughed off the forum :oops:

When i got my acc.sphere from GSF last week i got the square seal with it, so i would assume you have it too, so don't worry!

Remember to put the seal in the hole first, not on the sphere are u screw it in, and alos lubricate the thread neck and seal with a bit of lhm first.

Chaps,

Whilst clearing out my garage prior to house move I have uncovered a 1 ltr pot of GTX & 1ltr of GTD. For the last couple of years I have used semi synthetic in my 1.9TD and was wondering whether I could use these mineral oils as suitable top ups between oil changes.

The only thing I'd be wary of is if they were not similarly weighted. (ie) 20W50 against say 5W40
They apparently are compatable as regards mixing goes but may create problems if you mix thin against thick or vice versa.

This is always worth a read to put things into perspective.

My xantia just flew through it's MOT (see other thread), but there is still a knocking when going over bumps. Sounds a little like the drop links (just recently replaced), but louder and a bit heavier. I can't feel it through the pedals or steering wheel. Also it sounds the same whether the n/s or o/s wheel hits a bump

I know of at least one instance where an XM owner replaced a droplink - and had it replaced once again shortly after - before he got rid of the knocking problem.

Forgot I made this sound recording of me turning my steering wheel lock to lock before I changed my anti roll bar droplink, sounds like a creaking old boat! Started off as a light clunk over bumps and ended up like this :o

Just passed this week, only needing a replacement brake light bulb and the n/s headlight adjusting! Woohoo! And I expected it to fail on loads of bits

Just goes to show that they don't check strut tops, or at least they think mine are better than I do! Just about to replace these as they aint looking too good! All ordered, just waiting for...

For starters : the sphere mount is part of the strut top (I know this is insane - but dont blame me :roll: ) - this makes for 2 different pipe diameters - as the standard uses 3.5mm - the hydractive uses 10mm - piping.

Can anyone tell me if the external door mirrors fold all the way back?

I fitted a good condition second hand one on (thanks to a faceless coward who snapped it off :( ) but the mirror only folds back around 75%, i.e. it is not parallel to the door?

It’s a manual one, with the remote joystick if that helps.

My finding is for my own 1995 Mk I with mirrors operated manually by ‘joystick’ button.
The mirrors aren’t heated either, the car is an SX with ‘poverty pack’.
I now wonder how many variants there are, :? and if the motorised mirrors can be folded back fully by electric motors controlled from the inside.

I have a N reg Xantia 1.9TD with aircon.
Can anyone supply or upload a link to an accurate circuit diagram for the cooling fan circuits. The Haynes manual is worse than useless, and searching this forum has only brought up the Peugeot 306 diagram.

Are there any safety dangers with fitting non hydroactive spheres to a hydroactive car (left and right suspention) ? My local garage says he has always done this with his own Xantia as he finds hydroactive not as comfortable.

Just had my tooth pulled out this afternoon, so as I had the rest of the day off work I decided to go to the local Citroen dealers to order a sensor that needs replacing, but when I got home my gears (manual gear box) seemed to be grinding abit especially when trying to select reverse, then while pushing the clutch pedal to the floor to find where...

Turned out to be a little more serious than I thought, the clutch specialist said that it looked like the clutch release bearing had exploded, and the clutch release fork was nearly bent in half! I guess that'll teach me for ignoring the noisy clutch release bearing for such a long time. Still back on the road now, although £265 lighter.

I need to replace the RH driveshaft on my Xantia V6.

The Ciroen catalogue at (page 25) seems to show that the V6 auto has a unique driveshaft.

has V6 drivehafts for £64.50 +VAT, but only seems to list manual transmission (which was never avaliable in the UK).

(select Citroen and Xantia) shows one model of driveshaft covering 3.0, 2.1TD(ABS),...

As I suspected, the driveshafts are unique to the 4HP20 transmission, which (in the Xantia) was only fitted to the V6.

I suspect that most of the suppliers only know about the version for the BVM ML5T transmission.

Hi,
I'm continuing my on going search into finding a replacement for my 205D. Though I like the 306 D you do tend to pay a bit more for them.
So I'm seriously looking at ZX TD's as you can get high spec models like the Volcane at good prices.
I realise as opposed to the 306 the insurance bands are a bit higher, but other than that I wondered if...

Bear in mind all ZXs are old now - so suspension is likely to be past its best. If you budget for a suspension and associated rubbery bits overhaul you'll have a top-notch car that is fantastic value for money.

help please.. i have a 2000 xantia hdi, yesterday noticed the rear was all the way down, checked fluid and as it was a bit low topped it up, the rear went straight back up to maximum height when i started it up, then i let it down to drive..the red light flickered, and the rear promptly dropped all the way down again...the brakes feel a bit...

Check the plastic ball link between the anti-roll bar and the height corrector, and the clamp collar on the roll bar, the plastic links pop off (or snap) when they get a bit worn, and the little arm with the ball on the end of it snaps off if the height corrector linkage siezes due to rust.

Too much fluid does no harm except make a bit of a mess...

Looking for tips, help, guide for changing the alternator on my 1997 Xantia 1.9TD LX with aircon.
I guess i have to remove the HP pump to get at the alternator?
Got to get car recovered to home over the weekend and get replcement parts.
Need alternator, aux belt auto tensioner thing, new aux belt and some glow plugs. Looks like an expensive...

Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice/guidance if that's O.K.
Just bought a xantia and I think there is reduced pressure to the rear suspension. You can push the back of the car down with ease. The front of the car is fine.
Checked the service history and both rear spheres were changed less than two years ago.

I WOULDN'T leave the engine on the subframe! It'll lever the whole front subframe backwards and TOTALLY knacker the longerons - once that's happened you've lost the alignment of the whole lot and it'll all be scrap! If you don't believe me fine - but I've seen it happen to a Cx that was being scrapped anyway...

And it'll be a real pain to support...

I have a 2.2 HDi, and you certainly can hear the turbo whistle when it cuts in, but I wouldn't call it intrusive - in fact, you can only hear it with the windows open.

One reason for turning the aircon off and driving with the windows open!

To be fair, it's no noisier than my Xantia HDi 90. But it's certainly a lot faster.

Which way does the coolant flow, between the radiator and oil filter. Does it flow from the rad to the filter or from filter to the rad. This being on a ZX TD.

Haynes diesel engine manual diagram for the BX TD shows the water flowing from the thermostat housing to the offside connection on the oil cooler. It then flows out of the nearside pipe to the bottom of the radiator where presumably it mixes with the cooled water for re-circulation.

Haynes ZX diagrams are far more fun and to me completely...

Has anyone got an opinion about their automatic wipers on their C5? Are mine faulty, or is it just a rubbish design?

The automatic wipers on my wife's Xantia are fab. Intermittent in light rain, slow in medium rain, and fast when its big old fat rain.

The ones on my C5, in light frain, go from off completely, to intermittent, fast, slow etc...

I can recommend turning off the auto wipers if , like me, you leave them on and turn on the engine to heat up the car on a frosty morning. I started to scrape the ice off the windcreen on my Mums' 406 and when I scraped the top part (over the sensor) the wipers nearly had my fingers off (not to mention scaring the sh1t out of me)!!

Well have finally got a place and time to do the 5k service on the Xantia (BIL's).

My current list of checks and fixes is to:

Add grease to the hinges and locks.
Citerobics.
Check the rubbers on the struts for failings.
WD-40 the height linkages

Any small little jobbies to be done while I'm at the car to make sure everything is hunky dory?

Is the above has just started happening after chmaging the spheres on my hdi. i noticed is slightly when I was changing them which i thought came out of a breather nipple/pipe from the rubber boot covering the bottom part of the strut. It was alright up until a few days back when I have noticed small patches on floor and my warning light showing...

You need an alarm that's CAN compatible!

You can fit just about any aftermarket alarm to multiplexed cars without any problems at all,as long as the person installing it does it corectly.
i dont think it will be any good to make your connections at the alarm ECU plug,all you really have there is battery live,signal to siren,input from ultrasonic...
