Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

This may be a daft question, but was the ZX 1.9D (not turbo) ever fitted with a Bosch diesel pump ?. Ive seen plenty of Bosch pumps for the TD, but only seen Lucas pumps for the 1.9D.

It's window winder whoes again.
I tried a couple of switches and jiggle/clean the contacts under the door trim.
So this looks like a failed motor, and since a new one from citroen is nasty on the price i'd like to make an attempt to repair it with some help from somene who does this kind of stuff.

Just ordering replacement suspension lower arm bushes for Xantia and thought I’d check layout first.

Am I right in thinking the lower arm bush is No 9, diagram below, and is the `mushroom shaped front bush’ described on GSF online shop?

Hi ANDMCIT is correct I had the same problem with GSF in glasgow who tried to sell me the wrong handed bushing. I ended up buying both when I couldn't convince them they were wrong. If It happens in glasgow and wales, then there is a problem. regards john.

my trusty zx which has served me so well for the last three or so years has been replaced with a 325i bmw coupe.

Sharp in take of breath i hear, it is going to be a shock fueling that rather than my trusty TD! Possibly not a wise decision, think i will keep the zx around for a bit just in case the fuel becomes too much to bear!!!!

or get a xantia 3.0 v6, should be just as fast as the 325i, i think they both have 190bhp, i know the older (e30) 325i 12v 6cyl had 170bhp (and it's hairy in the wet)...

the xantia is overall a fantastic car, as good as the zx (just one step up, as is a 325i over ZX, like going from a Ford Escort to a Ford Mondeo)...

No it is not a shot wheel bearing. My Xantia has been doing the same for the last year. I have inspected the brakes and removed any loose rust etc. but still no good. Problem is intermittant.

Forum does it again, this was the exact symptom I had last night on my mechanically similar 205. In a straight line perfect, but slight movement of the steering and a squeek.

I found in my case, the advice above that wheel bearings dont squeek was spot on. The CV boot somehow had imploded like a vacuum and the grease had come out. Snipped off...

I have now sold my car after a lifetime of Citroens. I have respect for the fantastic suspension systems and love the diesel engines but here in France, mine could not cope with some of the roads. Want to know what I have changed it for? Look at the bog on and all will be revealed.

Posting this on the Citroen section as the part I'm asking about is stamped Citroen/Peugeot/Talbot, and you Cit folk seem very helpfull!

The part is on my 205 Auto (1580cc 1993 RHD), and sits under the passenger wing in front of the wheel. Its a cylinder canister with two pipes going in to it, with what looks like a smaller plastic filter inline...

Hi -

I believe its the charcoal canister - which is part of the antipollution system fitted to later cars.
I have no idea if these systems are shared on certain cross-PSA models being an original Citroen part number.
However its wellknown that BX16/19 and 205-16/19 shares the same engine parts.
Good to know before you enter the breakyards.

hi guys
having problem with my remote central locking

i locked the car last night with the plip worked no problem locked and deadlocked i went out to car this morning and the fob wouldnt open the car

i checked the plip using the digital camera trick its working even tried putting new batteries in just in case and rechecked with camera appears...

Hi there mates, i want to ask you if the calipers from the AX fit the 1.4 ZX avantage, mines are bendix i guess, because to take the pads out, i have to pull this little guide ( around 2 inches ) and take both pads out.

The caliper i have, it does a creacky noise with the car stationary, i did lube the guides of the piston, but it seems it didn't...

I have had ongoing droplink problems on the o/s on my Xantia for the past 6 months now. I have replaced the droplink four times, but after a month or two, it goes again.

I have taken these droplinks back claiming that they're faulty. Again another droplink has just failed.

well all the years i have been fixing car for customers i have never seen a swivel pin sheard off,even on a drop linik,so if this happens it must be due to people over tightening them,although i do remember a track rod end swivel pin shearing years ago in my early days in the garage trade,that was due to me being heavy handed

As it says really, the car always seems damp, it could be a chicken and egg situation but I believe it is leaking in somewhere.
I've looked all over but can't find an obvious place where its leaking in. Trouble is because the car is in daily use on the days when it has possibly leaked in and you've used the heater to clear the windows etc most of...

Also check your rear door window seals especially the bottom strip. If the door card has been off at sometime and the plastic sheet has been disturbed water runs down the outside of the window, past the seal into the door and then tracks down into the car. Hi guys,

I need some help to locate the correct exhaust clamp for Xantia 2.0/16v XU10J4 1995. It’s the Cat to front silencer connection and is 7.5cm across at Cat pipe end.

I’ve called three difference branches of GSF and got three different answers and cant work out sizes from web site (below) :oops:

I seems there's a substantial amount of water finding it's way into the passenger footwell when it rains. I've removed the carpet and soundproofing from just there. I cut across the soundproofing just under where the big round plastic thingy is (air con or heater pipes?). After it's rained the soundproofing that goes up behind the dash is...

On the ZX there is a recess up against the bulkhead on the passengers side that has the wiring harness going down through it, if that is sealed with a rubber gromit the whole thing fills up like a pond (Thats where Welshies fish...

I've heard (from reading about Xantias, I think) that the keypad immobiliser can be bypassed or turned off to save keep putting the code in every time. I'm about to install an alarm with 2 immobiliser circuits and probably replacing the current immobiliser diesel pump with a non-immobilised one from a Xantia (but later on), so wont need the Cit...

I've checked turbo boost on my 2.0 petrol and it's 0.4 bar max. It should be 0.6. Is there anything I could do about that? All air hoses look ok. Maybe adjust the wastegate a bit?

I've had the actuator off on my 2.0 turbo engine.

Jack the front up, support it on axle stands as high as possible then crawl underneath and you can get to the actuator ok.

You will need to remove the turbo oil return pipe to get to the actuator fixing bolts. It should come off quite easily.

Don't forget to chock the rear wheels solidly because...

Hi all
Does anyone know if all the 2.1TD citroen engines have the EPIC injector pump with the drive by wire on them or are there some out there with the good old fashioned 1 wire to the shut off valve and a proper throttle cable to the pump?
Did the peugeot 2.1TD have the epic as well?

Hi,
Thanks to searching this site I have determined that my ABS sensor F/R is faulty. I cant however find the break in wire to replace with anew one.
Has anyone fitted this before and if so know where the connector actually is.
All help appreciated.

HI folks, I've seen a few pictures of Xantia estates with a rear-facing row of seats in the back. Can anyone throw any light on this? Was this ever a factory option, or an aftermarket add-on?

Peugeot 406's were available with 7 seats as standard but I have never seen a standard 7 seat Xantia. Mine are an add on. I bought a whole estate with extra seats for £150 on ebay. Moved the seats to mine and scrapped the car. It had a snapped cam belt. The receipt I got showed the seats cost £528 installed in 1998. I think mine at £150 was a good...

First a bit of background.

Checking over my '93 1.9 TD hatch before its MOT, I decided to change the rear pads. When I took them out they were wedge shaped. Took off the calipers to clean the rear faces (they corrode and push the caliper out of square). In doing this on the n/s, the brake pipe fractured at, and started leaking from, a rusty...

Why is it the radio on the entertainment unit constantly scans from one station to another - it was alright when I bought the car a year ago but now it seems unable to hold a signal for more than a few minutes(seconds) at a time
Does this mean the unit is at the end of its useful life ? or am I doing something wrong ? :(

You don't say which model radio your car has (look in the handbook to match a model with a picture).

You should be able to stop it scanning for stations by turning off the AF option.

If your problem is really that the radio has lost its sensitivity, then the fault is probably in the antenna (which may be broken or corroded internally). It could...

hi all i just picked up a mint phase 2 saxo vts but im having problems with the alarm.when i first picked it up the battery had been disconected as it was sitting in a dealers garage.i didnt notice the problem untill i got back home when i locked the car for the first time with the buttons (its the one with two buttons the large one in the middle...

I agree with citronut, I had the same thing in a car a few years ago it had over an inch in the footwell and I put the car in a car wash and lay on the back seat to see where it was coming in.

Afternoon

Does anyone have an exploded view of the hydraulic regulator on an early Xantia without antisink.

I'm going to have a go at reseating the non-return valve as suggested by Jeremy through the Sphere face but I'd like to know what to expect :?

I've been in email contact with a company that do service kits for calipers.

I enquired about the 16v brakes so disc'd rears & here's his email back:

Citroen Front £18.90 this is only for the Girling caliper with the 20.4mm thick disc, it will not fit the Lucas caliper. Rear £24.75 both are axle sets and include vat, postage uk £1.39.

Hi All,
This last May, I changed rear spheres. This week I have found rear end getting very bumpy. I didn't change rear hydractive sphere or the anti sink (wasn't sinking) at the time.
Should I have changed the hydractive one at same time as the other two?? Rear end hard to push down at corners and no bounce back. Accumulator changed a bit...

Even if the hydractive (center) rear sphere was dead flat - you should still have the basic suspension from the wheel spheres. Meaning the press down test would perform as it should.

I think thats a bit misleading.

My K plate AX failed it's MOT today on a balljoint :(

I've split the balljoint off the hub, undone one of the rear bolts but can't understand how to disconnect the one closest to the back??? No obvious bolts, so how does it come off?

Also I've seen replacement balljoints, how easy are these to remove and fit? Is it a simple Tool of a pikey...

as slim123 said you will find the fixing nuts under the carpet in the front foot wells,and it is best to replace the arm,this way you are fitting new arm bushes t the same time

The only ones I can find will fit in the bulb holder but then the bulb holder wont fit back in the control plate because the back bit of the bulb protrudes rather more than the original fitment and...

The radio (with CD Changer) does not now switch on. Did come on, after I had stopped for a call of nature, during my 2 hr commute. Have checked all dashboard fuses and am scared of going to dealer (price). Can't think of anything I've done to promote this. Any Ideas :idea: , I'd be grateful :?:

Hi haven't been here in a while........

The new owner of my Xantia TD R reg, has rung up with a bizzare problem, 2 15amp fuses keep blowing (rear wiper and indicators) and the speedo has gone to 150 mph and stayed there.

Any ideas folks a bit stuck as he's going on holiday Saturday

Still having a problem.......the two original plips (no red lights on these) are with the car. The batteries have 3.5 volts. They must be matched to the ECU but 'nowt appens' when I press either of the two buttons. Any ideas please?

The recever is inside the CPH unit which is located behind the passangers glovebox.sounds like the plips probably just need re-programed.

Living in southamerica, and having limited access to quality non-original spheres, I want to try and refill originals.

I read the archives and there is a lot of info on recharging kits that no longer are sold.

Is there any recharging kit still for sale?

Title says it all really..... The reversing light fuse keeps blowing :( and I'd like to check the wires leading to the reversing light switch. The car is a 2 litre Hdi with 5 speed manual box.

When I got the car back from having the clutch changed-the fuse was blown. I replaced it, and it was fine for nearly three months, then it blew again. I popped another new one in, and this one blew too. Symptoms are when you engage reverse, the reversing lights come on and it makes that stupid *bing* noise. Next time you try reverse, its blown....

A friend with a 2002 Xsara 1.9TD has a problem with mixed coolants. He added green coolant to an orange mix.

Do all modern Cits come with orange coolant?

What year did they change, if they did?

What is the recommended coolant?

For the cost of replacing the coolant with the correct fluid compared to the lasting damage it may do.....no contest! Poor or wrong coolant can attack the metal surfaces and lead to early gasket failure, it may also cause locallised heating spots, and finally it may even damage your water pump.

thanks for your input, ref your note I have not removed the nut on the rear arm only cracked it open approx 1/2 a turn

That means your rear arm bearings don't have the correct preload on them, thats not good. If there is slack in the bearing, you'll end up with play and shockloading, thats not good either. Even if having the nut slackened does...

Having finally got the ZX out of the back of the workshop, fitted a new clutch, rebuilt the front suspension & brakes and welded in two small plates, I am surprised at how pleasant to drive the car is. After a two year lay-up waiting for my time to fix the car, I had forgotten how this basic 1.6 Advantage was such a nice car.
My only niggle is...

Just to update after checking the stop solenoid and around abouts over ther is hardly a drop coming from there at all :(

I have tracked it down to som form of plate on the back of the IP pump right down near the head. I am assuming this is some for of take off plate for another application but serves no purpose on an XUD engine. It may have been...
