Is there a suitable 2ltr HDI replacement ECU, without DPF!

Hi all, I have a C8 giving me grief with anti pollution fault (now fixed) and after a few hundred miles 'Fuel aditive minimum level' great! I have filled the aditive tank & reset the counters with a snap on scanner, but the display just keeps re-appearing? Either i'm doing something wrong or the additive ECU (if it has a seperate one?) has packed up? I have no idea of what to do? Can I get another 2ltr 16 valve HDI ecu without this system & programme it in, where would i find a suitable ECU? I have seen a fiat version of this car without the system.

There must be a car running a 2ltr 16 valve HDI engine with no partical filter surely? Please help!!

Have you tried having the ECU 'reset' using a dealer tool? Third party tools don't always work.

If you turned off the regeneration by whatever means then eventually the DPF would clog wouldn't it?

The engine ECU's on non FAP models are the same as ones with. You can simply unprogram The diesel additive ECU from it with lexia but as said above it will eventually clog up (pretty quickly i would imagine) so you would need to bypass/hollow out the cat/particle filter.
This fault though sounds most likely a faulty FAP ECU. It's located above the pedals on a C8. I dont know how much sucess you would have programing in a new on with a snap-on scanner though.

Hi, I have a mobile diagnostic friend coming round on Thursday & he has the genuine Peugeot diag tool, should this programme out the additive ecu, I guess it will? It's really great to know its the same ecu, fap's or not. I will go with programming out the ecu & replacing the filter with a straight through pipe :-)

Thanks Cookie Boy, that will be most valuable for all those owners of the 2.2HDi and the tiresome particulate filter.

Like the bypassing of cats generally on diesels, I assume it'll not affect subsequent MOT tests so long as the car meets smoke density limits?

That's correct, the MOT diesel exhaust emission limit is the same for all turbo diesels registered since 1 August 1979. No distinction is made for those originally fitted with particulate filters.

Hi, I have had the addative ecu programmed out & the message has now gone from the display. Now I need to do something with the filter? My worries are as follows... If i remove the filter, will the difference sensor throw up a fault? If I leave the cat section in but remove the patical filter, will that give wrong signals to the difference sensor & throw up a fault? I was thinking of unbolting the partical filter section & replacing it with a section made by myself...?
Has anyone some thoughts on this matter, dont really want to damage things I might need again or make the bypass any more difficult than it needs to be.

In theory the ECU should now ignore any info from the exhaust differential pressure sensor so it shouldnt be a problem. To test the theory out remove the 2 rubber pipes from the sensor & swap them round, run the car for a day or so & if you get no warning lights or messages then you should be ok to remove the FAP.

Update... I have disconnected the difference sensor which has after approx 2 miles put the engine light on & engaged 'limp home mode', I have connected the sensor back, cleared the fault codes & am back to some more thinking again lol! I presume its because the additive ecu is programmed out, all other things on the partical filter system can still be detected?
Any help or suggestions welcome please,

Has the FAP ECU just been unprogrammed from the BSI or did you alter any settings in the injection ECU also ?
Is it the Bosch EDC15 ECU ?

Well i'm not certain whats been done, I personally only have a snap-on scanner so cannot perform the more complex tasks.
I asked my mobile diagnostic friend if he could reset the counters then program the addative ecu out. The counters wouldn't reset so he just programed it out, I presume from the BSI , but i'm not sure? It is the Bosch EDC15 ECU btw. Have I gone about it wrong??
I guess the filter consists of the cat at the front of the flange & the partical filter rear of the flange?

Hi again, I feel like a bad penny! Can any one shed any light on my situation? The partical filter seems to be made up of 2 filters bolted together, i'm guessing the cat in the 1st half then the partical filter straight after...I was thinking of removing the partical filter, but leaving the cat so the difference sensor hopefully will detect different pressures & wont put on the light again?
Just to chuck another spanner in the works, it now shows yet another trouble code! P1135 deactive 3rd piston>high presure pump. I'm presuming I can just buy a 3rd piston soleniod/valve & fit it to the pump to fix the problem??

Hi Steve the additive counters pressure switch and temp probes all work with the main engine ecu only the additive pump additive injector and fuel cap switch work with the additive ecu.
Has the car got the original fuel cap with the two magnets in as these magnets operate the switch to allow the reset of the counters and the injection of the additive into the fuel tank.
The third piston is operated when the ecu detects a fault to save the engine from any damage it will operate with any nymber of problems
some of which are
low fuel pressure
high fuel pressure
additive system dissconected
and many more
As we have o lot of customers with cit/pug cars with this system on my brother and i bought a c5 2.2 and tried to remove the fap system and spent days with the fabled lexia and snap on modis scanners to no avail as this system is linked in to many other systems in the car to be removed also the engine systems are designed to run with this additive in the system
the life of the fap filter is somewhere around 60-70,000 miles less if a lot of town driving is done more on motorway work

to recap the most common faults when resetting the additive counters are one magnet missing in the fuel cap/replacement cap with no magnets
or the wiring to the tank ie bad connections

The 3rd pston deactivator is just for deactivating the 3rd piston in the HP fuel pump when it is not needed like at idle speed for example and also deactivates the 3rd piston at high engine speeds to reduce the load on the engine, its not for any sort of downgraded mode. Its a simple all or nothing solenoid, the resistance of the soleniod should be about 25 ohms.
Its not available seperately from citroen, you may get one from a bosch specialist though if it turns out the soleniod is faulty.
