Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The spring that is attached to the tensioner roller arm has come away. I think the bolt that hold it together may have snapped. the aux belt is still at tension as the spring is still pushing against the roller arm just.I replaced all of this about a year ago why would it snap off like this have I done a bad job :evil: or could this be a Friday...

Hi,

I have a 1995 Xantia 1.9TD.

Then car runs very well, no smoke (well not much) while driving, great power and good economy.

When I start it in the morning, there is quite alot of blue smoke. I know that this means there is wear in either the rings or the valves and oil is seeping in. It has 145k miles on it so considering it's performing OK...

Very possibly and more than likely. In the case of ANY starting issues on a 1.9TD, it is always a good idea to check the entire fuel system carefully for air leaks. Air leaks really do upset the function of the Bosch pump.

Does anyone know where I can get an Activa front balancing sphere? I have tried GSF but, although they list one for the rear, the front one has disappeared from their listings. I realise I can go to Citroen but at what price??

Hello,

I have purchased myself another Activa. But the red stop light is on all the time. The previous owner believed it to be due to an air leak on the inlet manifold.

I'm not so sure, so, can anyone tell me what problems will result in just the red STOP light coming on on it's own.

The 'new' Activa needs a little attention.

The engine management light came on as I drove home each time I put my foot down. I suspected overboost and today I found a bleed valve fitted on the turbo waste gate actuator supply. I've taken the valve off for now.

I'll be doing a hydraflush soon and then new LHM. A few new spheres too.

Just preparing for the summer, doesnt seem to working, like its low on gas, you can hear it hissing behind the dash on and off, and also if you look at the clutch you can see it engage and disengage around idle speed. Just wondering if its simply low on gas? It worked perfect in the summer and i occasionally press the AC switch but probably not...

Hi All,

I have a 2.1tdsx xantia estate (MK1 R Reg) and the condition of the front seats is poor as they are all worn away. I cant find one in a local scrap yard so oes anyone know where I can get a set please.

Hi All

New to the forum, great wealth of knowledge on here...
I own a 99 xantia 2.0 hdi sx hatch back, just done 65k. I tend to look after it myself being an ex mechanic and all that but this latest problem has me baffled....!!

I replaced all 4 corner spheres yesterday and changed the LHM, straight forward job you would expect, road tested...

2 new front spheres fitted, the same supplier, the same part numbers and the problem is cured. The xantia floats down the road and I am beaming :D

So anyone reading this thread, if you have a hard sphere its knackered, and if its a new one its a faulty/dodgy part!!

a while back i was having trouble with the aux belt tensioner on my 2.1td xantia, on tick over the belt would flat around and make a right racket.
i changed the belt and also the crankshaft pulley which was starting to break up, i checked the rollers on the belt tensioner top and bottom and both seemed ok.
i've noticed the noise has started to...

the lack of power is probably that simple fix which i can't remember now, i think it's to do with the wastegate solenoid thing... someone else will shed some more light.

i wouldn't think it's the pump, it's a good pump, and does the job well as long as you leave it alone (i.e no veggie oil etc)

check all breather and vacuum hoses that lead...

No - you can move the cigarette lighter fuse to another position. Making it a live outlet without the key.

anders how do you do that what fuse etc. Look in your owners manual. You should find a list of fuses explained. Either the lighter socket fuse...

This query relates to a 1999 Citroen Xantia 1.9TD LX automatic with 145K miles on the clock.

It was a hot day so decided to make sure the coolant level was correct before taking the car out for a run in the west country.
On taking the cap off, I was horrified to see a black oily sludge sitting at the top of water tank.
Last level check was done...

Thanks DickieG, for the gearbox dip stick info, unfortunately this box really does not have a dipstick, you have to remove a part of the gearbox drain plug to check for level, that's just about one can do.
I have had the gearbox recently refurbished and the workshop assures me that the heat exchanger was replaced as part of the refurb to a newer...

how many differant oil coolers are there between all the XUD engines,

one of my customers has got hold of a second hand oil as his has aquired some damage (wasn't me), the replacement is thinner so in turn the original fixing is to long

Two days ago when I started the car in the morning the stop light and the (O) light stay on for about 5 seconds before they go out which they have never done before. It now does it every time when I start the car when the car has not...

Thats quite normal behaviour. It's just because the system loses some hydraulic pressure when the engine is off, so when the pressure is low the light will come on.

So when you start the engine, it will say stop until it is up to working pressure. Obviously the longer the light stays on the more tired the suspension is, in which case do what...

Hi I’m looking at upgrading from my Xantia 2.0HDI 110bhp and would love a Citroen with an auto box as such I’m looking at a nice CITROEN XANTIA 3.0I EXCLUSIVE with an auto.

It has lots of history and a (to die for) cream leather interior which can always be change with the black leather from my HDI

I would be thinking of converting it to LPG as...

Good choice lucifer. They are lovely cars. I don't know why you would want to swap the cream leathers for the black ones from your hdi car. The cream leathers are very rare and would retain the car's value should you decide to sell it for any reason.

Running costs are not as high as you would expect from a 3.0 V6 engine, you will never match...

just picked up the Xantia from the mot station, along with a new mot certificate, on the advisery note it states that the front wheels just met the imbalance reguirement.

It is also worth checking that the handbrake cables are free and not seized. Check the outer casing for any splits or breaks around the steering as this is where they are prone to fail. Decided today would be a good day to fit the towbar to my '95 Xantia 1.9TD so set to work removing the bumper.
All went fine until I came to the last fixing (isn't it always the case), the off-side bolt - side securing screw - the one that lives in a recess in the wheel arch.

This just turns and turns and turns and ..........................

I want to remove the roof bars but don't know what I'll find as they appear to have been there a while and held in place by wonky self-tappers.

Would I regret removing them? i.e Say I find or create unsightly marks and then be unable to refit the bars again due to bodged fasteners?

Hi Mike, from memory, 4 x M8 bolts should go through bar brackets into roof.. allen/hex bolts ideally

not self tapping.. into hardended threads as Xac mentioned...

On this subject, I want to fit my bars for the summer, quite often in the past I take the bars off but leave the four brackets bolted in, Is this likely to make much difference to...

Was replacing the secondary bonnet release cable today as it was starting to look a bit tired and whilst cleaning up the latch plates I found a small micro switch attached to the drivers side one.

The switch is broken and I assume it must be a warning switch that the bonnet isn't locked down, but I can't find the little bugger on Citroen...

As mentioned before I have a rocker switch which works the fan. A kind member (cough) has checked transistors on fan unit and they are ok. Fan motor is ok too. The rocker switch has a feed picked up from a Scotchlock (yuk) connected into thick white? wire just to the left of steering wheel.

It seems to be a permanant live as fan operates from...

Since we don't have citroen-pr.net anymore, can anyone help me with finding the part number for the (green?) plastic part that holds the window and connects to the electric window regulator?
Or, instead, i can use the drawing of the electric regulator and the way it connects to the window.

Appear to have developed an odd wiper problem on my 96 TD Xantia.
Wipers appear to have developed a mind of their own, not turning off, turning on for no apparent reason.
Have removed the column switch but this appears OK does anyone know of any common problems that might cause the above?

Good detective work in finding the problem :D

Makes you wonder how many other different electical faults are down to soggy, upsidedown relays.

A lot and moisture getting ito multi plugs as well, especially those under the passenger footwell carpet and passenger seat. This is one consequence of a leaky windscreen scuttle trim; lots of water...

Front: 35mm. Rear 32mm (If drums, not sure if discs). You need a good 6 sided impact socket and long breaker bar to get it undone - especially if someone's been there before with the windy gun..... :roll:

I've just developed an odd problem with the heater control on my 99 Xsara HDI after a long trip through Europe.
4 position heater (blower) switch suddenly only works on #4 and does nothing on other positions.
I've checked other heater control posts but they all seem to be Xantia related (my other car's a Xantia and has blower control problems as...

The 2.1 XM uses a fuel heater bolted to the end of the cylinder head, most of which leak and have been disconnected. They are very effective though but I dont know if they would fit the 1.9, they probably would...

The aircon on my immaculate 1996 Citroen Xantia 1.8 Auto is not what is
was, a local garage is offering re-gassing for £65 inclusive. I've no idea
if this is a fair price or even if it will improve my aircon. Can any expert

Halfruads aircon Kit is what i've used with no issues.
Obviously not as good as vacuming out the system but has sufficed in my last few xantias with AC and the pressure guage has packed up but i'll replace that soon. The cans can be quite cheap as well so if its only a topup its good and helps you find the leak as well to DIY fix if wanted?

Is anyone using bio-diesel in their 2.1 Xantia.
I have tried it in mine and apart from it being a bit lumpy on start up everything seems OK.

I know the Lucas pump is not really up to using SVO so is the bio likely to
cause any damage?

Ok so now all the supermarkets are £1 a litre for veggie oil....

Its gone up 30p in a couple of weeks!

Also, the bookers shelf is never stocked of the 56p stuff, and the 20 litre cans work out £16 for 20 litres... plus the vat puts you up there to £1 a litre again!!

So, anyone gettign it cheaper? barely had a month of cheap fuel :(

Naively, I considered it best to remove the A/C compressor for dismantling and inspection or replacement but soon realised it's connected to a pressurised(?) system and might be a bad idea to undo the unions so I left it alone.

What are my options here as I value a working system? How much, if any of it, is a DIY job or will I mostly need...

Can anyone tell me what fault-code reader to buy for a 2.0 hdi synergie, year 2000.

After eventually getting the gearbox back in (and all the gears now selectable,) the engine will not start. It turns quickly enough, the fuel system seems to pressurise, (noise of pump starts and stops), but it will not start.

Tried the elm 327 but could not get it to work. However some on the ilexa diagnostics site say it is compatible.

In any case--good news--i got a new speed sensor and it started ok. I must have damaged it when replacuing gearbox. Pretty reasonable price at under £16.

Yesterday I got in to my Xantia (1998 2.1td) typed in the immobiliser number, the light when green but the car would not start. Well it did start but cut out straight away as though the immobiliser number had been types in wrong.
So I tried the number again and got two beeps saying the number was wrong. I have had the same number for the last 5...

I think if mine were playing up I would pull the plug. However a working one is quite good I think......much better than aftermarket plug in immobilisers which need constant cleaning with Servisol after a while.

Right . Thanks to all for rad help on previous threads. All done.!

Cooling fans don`t seem to come in although when aircon is switched on the two fans come on ok. My slider fan control don`t work but last owner has fitted a rocker switch left of gearstick which works ok. Temperature can be changed ok with slider. Just wondered if these two...

I'm on the verge of purchasing an X reg Xantia Hdi forte with 98k on it. Checked everything that I can think of, and the only possible question mark is the noise from the steering. Loud squishing noise when I turn the wheel.
I know it's hydraulically operated, but is the noise emitting from it normal?

A bit of gentle swooshing/hissing when turning the steering is normal - mine does it when turning left, especially if the wheels are stationary thus causing additional load on the steering.

Nothing to worry about if the steering feels fine.

Xantia 1994 1.9TD

Is it difficult to replace the sunroof tracking and works as all the plastic mechinism in the track has broken and the sunroof is sagging.

If it not to hard how do you change tracks and runners etc ?

The whole sunroof tray will drop down off the main roof easily enough; there
are only half a dozen nuts holding it in, the tray drain pipes and the electrical
attachment for the motor at the front above the rear view mirror are also
easy to undo.

That said, the real fiddle is the removal of the 'rail' of pillar cappings with the
integral lights...

Hello again guys,

Another crazy Xantia problem following on from my last adventures:

In relation to the previous post, I replaced the glow plugs, the primer bulb and I managed to finally get hold of some clear hose to go between the filter housing and pump (nowhere seems to sell the clear hose!).

If its the plugs you'll be getting unburned fuel out of the exhaust probably causing white smoke and/or the smell of diesel. If it's a fuel problem you will not. That should help!

I noticed, what I first thougt was, a plastic bag caught between the n/s driveshaft and whatever the component is behind it. There was a small bolt lodged in there but that went back into the intercooler pipe stay where it belonged :roll:

Picture was taken from under the n/s wheel arch - what do you make of that bag, it looks like the bag...

I think you'll find that the ram is perfectly OK with the piston shaft exposed to the elements - My BX hasn't any protection - and maybe its shortened the ram life but its not leaking at 207,000 miles.

My guess is that its to protect the ram from rust before the car is driven - and if it functions for a bit afterwards (12 years or more in the...

As of this morning the climate control in my C5 has stopped working.

The symptoms are: fan running on mid speed, a/c off, heating off, all buttons seem to work (when pressed all functions/temp display are changing on the display), except for the climate control system is not responding. It just keeps running on mid-speed.

Any ideas?
