Fitting a bulb in the Clock/display unit Xantia 2

Unread post by jmd »

Can anyone offer advise on fitting a bulb in the Clock/ Date display unit of an Xantia Mark 2. Reading the instructions in the Haynes Manual, it all seems like a lot of hard work, removing so much stuff. Has anybody actually done the job & perhaps found an easy way of replacing a bulb.

Unfortunally NOT... its quite a ball ache as the front panel is an ALL one piece acroos the colum!

The good news is the steering wheel does NOT have to come off, but the bad is the radio needs to come out to get at the fixing screws behind the radio that hold the panel in place!

One up for S1 cars I must admit, as this panel is split and theres only need to remove the radio.

You need to take the steering shrouds off to get at the two screws behind there..

Thanks Paul.
It seems a lot of stuff has got to be removed to replace a small item - but what 's got to be done, has got to be done. Thankfully it's an item that doesn't need to be replaced too often.

Is it not possible to remove the radio and surround and then 'just' reach in the hole and remove the bulb from the back of the clock? You might need a dentists mirror to see where it is, and I don't know how far you have to reach round to get to it, but certainly on a MK1 there was plenty of room to get to the back of the clock to pop it out. You have to take the radio out anyway, so nothing lost by spending 5 minutes having a try!

Nope!

Theres the radio surround then theres the panel support bar!!

Mark One's a Doddle, just pop the clock out!! Simple!

Its a Mark Down for the S2 I guess...

I have done this jb only to find that it wasnt the bulb in the clock at all the ribbon cable to the bulb is knackered so be careful you could be wasting your time better to buy a cheap illuminated stick on clock from halfrauds.
