Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Just returning from hols and ABS light flashes intermittently on motorway. Next day on a few short journeys - no flashing - any guidance would be useful - including ignoring it until it ever returns!

The ECU clears faults as soon as you hit 20mph- as long as the fault is no longer present.

My guess is that one of the rings is cracked and/or running out of true. That's what it was on mine. It eventually shed the ring altogether and I had to replace the entire CV joint.

As far as I know, all PSA manual 'boxes use 75W/80. A 306 certainly will.

It's not at all uncommon for something else to be used when changing/topping up in the trade as 75W/80 is not a popular grade at all and a lot of people just don't realise the criticality of using the right stuff.

Just acquired Xantia number 3 now, these things are beginning to become a habit.

It's an auto, last of the XUD9TE's on a W plate, all nice and shiny with lots of pretty lights on the dashboard.

Problem is the winter (snow) light and sports light are flashing simultaneously. It's a high miler so i presume that the problem is the gearbox oil wear...

I've had about enough. The squealing, groaning, whistling is becoming embarassing. I've confirmed that it is the front brakes, by virtue of the handbrake and I've removed the calipers and cleaned all the surfaces, re-assembling with copper grease. The pads are only part worn as are the discs. There appears to be some run-out under light braking....

My Hdi has developed a regular squeak somewhere in the cambelt area.
It seems to squeak twice for every rotation of the belt.
Its a bit annoying and loud enough to be heard faintly, at 60 mph with the radio off.
It doesn't seem to be the belt itsself.. I wondered if anyone else had possibly had this problem?

... and a few days later it was back.. so being totally fed up with the squeak and everyone staring whilst going round town. i decided to give it one more try before replacing the belt. I gave it a 2 minute jetwash whilst the car was running... that was 5 weeks ago and now i have .... silence... at last!!

I'd suggest service.citroen users also register for Peugeot Servicebox - oddly, you can't co-register for both at once.

Then you look up part numbers to see what occurs across the PSA range. It means you can often price off small parts between the two marques' dealers.

I've had a spare key cut for my 96 Xantia VSX (after being told by a couple of places it was main dealer only). The problem is that the key won't operate the doors, but will operate the ignition. I've been back to the locksmith's and they've reworked the key with no success, and finally cut a new one which was the same. The only thing I can see is...

For some reason today after i stalled the engine(not paying attention in traffic and tried to start off in 3rd instead of 1st..... :oops: ) and when i restarted it the blower fan went to full speed and stayed there. Now i tried shutting the engine off and leaving it a few seconds and then kicking it back in, even gave it 20minutes before trying...

Ok tried a blower motor out of a 406 and i think the way it sits in the cowling its not right or the blades themselves cant pull the air thru properly.

When the fan is fitted there is a small gap from it being sat right at the top, about 2cm. Now there is an indent so im sure the indent should sit on the inside of the fan blades so the air is...

I was at Autos and Sons near Bottisham Cambs, and they have a BX TZD which is almost complete (I could only see only 3 alloy wheels).

They also have a Xantia Mk2 1.8 SX and a few Mk1 Xantias (none in black).

Their prices are very reasonable. But it is the sort of place where you are expected to remove the parts...

Hi again, another quick question.....my boot light doesn't work. Same as my old 306. Replaced the bulb, no good.

Next thought is the switch...any ideas where this is? I have no idea at all. Can't see anything that resembles a switch anywhere.

The veg oil only goes through the original heated fuel filter, however recently I have had a problem with air getting in the system, which is not good! My C5's service indicator is showing up since this morning - it indicates that a service is 50 miles overdue (it shows a spanner image and -50).

The problem is that until yesterday evening it was showing up ~15,000 to the next service. According to the service history the last service was done back in April (at 30142 miles, it's done just over...

hi, I have stopped the leaky rear door some years ago when I bought the estate Used.
Has anyone had the same problem with the rear wiper only working intermittently?
could it be the control stalk? or is it more likley to be the motor or something else stopping it from working, It will go occassionally if you switch it on and slam the rear door...

The sepentine belt tensioners on the Xantia are on their last legs :lol:
The spring one has siezed and has noisey bearings and the eccentric also has noisey bearings.

I've found a few places that stock the spring tensioners for around £50 (GSF, Kevin Cooper SW) but im having a bit of a problem trying to source an eccentric one, I was suprised...

Please shoot me down in flames here but the symptoms you describe sound just like a blocked fuel filter although you say it wont rev even when not under load a classic sign of which is it wont rev under load but will when not under load.

I see that Jim has said about the return pipe already and that you have bypassed the filter and insitu fuel...

It's never that simple is it? Went to replace the discs and pads this afternoon and the pins are seized solid. :roll: Anyone experienced who could pass on a little advice, Haynes says 'simply drive out the pins with a punch'! Grrrr

Also, are the pin sets available from anywhere other than Citroen as they're £20 odd a side and this is getting to...

I had the apparent fuel leakage problem on our ZX 1.9D when we bought it. After replacing one tank ring which made no improvement I had a better look at the tank top with a torch and mirror - and found another vent pipe - which was split.

I cut a small hole in the floor to get access, replaced the pipe and riveted a plate over the hole and sealed...

hello everybody,
a bit of a problem here, i was driving back from london and i had my turbo blow out on me, it was quite frightening, i tried turning the ignition off but the engine just kept revving, so i had to stall the engine and drift the car to the kirb.
the real question is, is it a dificult job to replace the turbo and how do i go about...

kevino hope you give yourself a slap for putting too much oil in. :roll: but well done for the quick thinking & stalling the enigne :wink: :)

As you now know having too much oil is a bad thing...always run the engine with the oil level in the middle of the Min & Max marks on the dipstick.

Anyone that drives a Diesel should always be prepared...

I need to replace rear silencer on my C8 2.0 petrol, and so far got quoted some ridiculous money for it ~£220 just for parts. I consider that a simple rip off.
Any advice how to find a cheaper solution?
I can find cheap Synergie rear silencer but not sure if they match.

I would not recommend fitting a diesel silencer to a petrol engine, as the characteristics of the exhaust pulses (at light throttle) are different, and a diesel silencer can be too resonant.

I looked at . They don't list the C8 on their website, but it would be worth giving them a call.

Hi there,
Whilst out driving, my Xantia 1.9 TD started overheating badly. Pulled over and found there was no water left. Got it AA'd home, filled it up and discovered that the water was pouring out the front grill and could see water dripping from the radiator and it look pretty corroded. Someone recommended k-seal, so I tried it. Left it running...

Thanks for all the advice, I done what you said myglaren, topped the water back up and started the car, it's like old faithful, the water's gushing out and the smokes filling the street, but the good news is there's a guy that lives round my way who knows these cars inside out who's going to fix it for £170ish, thats the gasket, head bolts, timing...

Hi All,

Had quite a scare this morning :shock: started the car to go to work, and on a whim I popped the bonnet while it was running to check something unrelated, and what did I see, but petrol POURING out of the feed hose to the fuel rail down the front of the engine! :shock: :shock:

Just went outside to wire up a relay for my new horn......Hooked up the relay feed to the battery and connected up the relay....

Whilst i moved the relay around looking for a suitqable mounting point for it, i presume one of the other contacts struck an earth point...

The result? Picture the London eye firework display on new years :shock:

Hi All (again),

I have another small issue with my car. I drive a Citroen Xsara LX 2001 (51 plate) 1.6 hatchback.

I recently purchased a Wireless Bluetooth GPS adapter for my N95 phone, so I can use GPS with my phone. The adapter came with a incar charger.

I just cannot get my incar charger to work in the lighter area. The lighter works fine...

I had a spare element from a British car - but when I tried to use it I found it was very slack in the hole - Had I been interested and determined enough to get the thing to work I'd have had to increase the diameter of the replacement element - possibly by wrapping it...

A work colleague is looking to change his cam belts etc on his 95 Xantia TD, and I was going through the list of things he'd need.
I mentioned coolant and he said he'd put in about 500ml of orange organic.
Doesn't this gloop up when mixed with the normal blue?
If so, any suggestions on how to clean out the coolant system fully?

For those that indulged me an read my earlier post

you will know that for the second time an auxiliary belt failure on my Xantia 2.1td Exclusive caused the cambelt to jump and the engine to cease to function with a stomach churning bang.

Had the fix or scrap dilemma, however after it sat in the works car park for 3 weeks I decided to have it...

It's not something I approve you do but I've seen people asking if it's possible to bypass the A/C compressor by fitting a shorter belt and the consensus seems to be that it can't be done, or if it can, it shouldn't be so I'm posting this picture in case anyone wants to see how it can be routed and to dispell any myths of it being impossible.

I should have determined the tension when I had the chance but I forgot :oops: You are correct Malcolm, the tensioner released a bit more and the belt easily came off. I recall it would squeal on startup so probably needed a little more tension for quiet starting.

What`s the do with the roofbar fittings? There is a spring that prises out . I take it the proper roofbar snaps in or summat? Anyone got a pic of it that I might make a copy. I need to get a bar on the roof to hold fishing rods. They are like hens teeth to pick up.

Hazard warning light switches are a weak point. I had one go on my last Xantia (and had it on Pug 405s as well) and it caused all sorts of problems with the indicators. I don't know if it will cause the other problems you mention though.

I didn't have the radio code etc with the car, one dealer wanted £15 per number, ie radio code, key number and security code. Total £45.

I called in at another and was given all three for no charge! I needed the V5 as proof of ownership, though.

Can someone say if this is normal? Usually my temp gauge fluctuates very little between 70 and 80 degrees. Whilst on holiday this year near Millau in France the motorways go up and down some awfully steep hills. As i drove up them the temp went up and up to over 100 degrees. Luckily then I would be going down hill again, easing off the throttle...

Its great to be back in here isn't it.

My C5 Estate has a little problem with the rear wiper. It does not go as far as it used to. Maybe 3/4 of the way at best. I think its jsut the cold or the salt from the roads, but its never happened before. Anyone had this before?

Finaly got my rear wiper sorted.
I couldn't work it out, so took it to an indy.
They couldn't work out how to get it off so took it to Cit Dealer who said it would take less than half an hour.

It took them more than 1.5 hours. They had to hacksaw the bolt off.

The two year coolant change is ready (rad changed in 2006 according to history) on the Xantia! And its my first time doing one 8)
I've familiarised myself with the BoL section on it and it seemed 'simple' enough so I began to give it a shot...

I've drained the coolant out of the rad using a cunningly modified 4pt milk carton and the stuff seems...

A pal of mine has had his wife's VSX Xantia fail on some of it's rear
subframe mountings. I've seen some of these starting to look a bit
naff on a few Xm's and Xantiae but this is the first time that I've seen
a MOT failure and just wondered if there was a supplier for these or

So I bagged a throttle body and idle stepper from a 1.4 AX. Seems they are the same as those on the 1.0 but I'm hoping they might have modified them from the ones fitted to the 1.0 as TPS wear seems to be a common problem. The TPS itself is a different colour so maybe that means something.

Anyway, fitted it this evening and it's running much much...
