Xsara 2.0HDi clattery engine speed noise

Post by Paul-R »

Just returned from a 2,000+ mile and the last 50 miles as accompanied by a clattering noise which varied with engine speed but not exactly.

I suspect that it's a one-way clutch but how many are there? The alternator I think is one. Am I right in thinking that the clutch is a non-replaceable part?

I'll have a look tomorrow. I'm in France and this a bad time to find spares as everybody seems to be on their congés annuels.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

It's the bottom pulley.

Been too bloody hot to do anything until today when I got started in the afternoon. I've removed a lot of the surrounding gubbins and should have the pulley off tomorrow morning before it gets too hot again.

Let's hope nothing else has been damaged. The pulley was ok when I changed the belts, water pump and idlers at 155,000 and it's done another 20,000 since then.

Took the old one off this morning and went into town (Orange, Vaucluse) to get a replacement. I tried a car spares/motor factors first expecting to have to then go on the Citroen dealers.

To my surprise they not only had a catalogue for pulleys but even had one in stock - which tells you something about how often they fail! They gave me the garage price, they said, and I paid 110€ inc taxes - about £95 - £98. Anyone know how that compares with UK prices?

I worked into the lunchtime period and finished it at about 1:00pm. Hot??? You don't know the meaning of the word!

!
GSF do them for around 80quid. Cheaper on ebay but maybe chinese.

110€ inc taxes - about £95 - £98 - That seems expensive because of the exchange rate. A couple of years ago 110E would have been around £78.
