Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi folks, am i correct in saying that there's a difference in the strut tops on a 2.0 Mk1 petrol and a 1,9 VSXtd ? , the reason for my enquiry is that my local scrappy has a 2.0 petrol Xantia which he says has new strut tops, i haven't seen the car but i will be going next Sat..
My Xant is a VSXtd, so if there's a difference they are no use to me,...

Thanks for the additional advice Mike , i'll give them a good check over, if they are as the scrappy says (new) there should be no issues , if however theres any doubt i'll give them a miss.

Hello folks,

My car Xsara HDI 90BHP broke down last night on the way home from a very long day at work.

It appears the lift pump in the tank has turned it's toes up and died on me.

It cut out while driving as if it had run out of fuel. I gave the tank a bang while turning the ignition on, and it started running again...got about 100 metres down...

I managed to sort it today which is good. Unfortunately I misplaced a bowl under the tank and got diesel everywhere. Oh well.
I haven't replaced the 'O' ring as I was desperate to get the car going again. If I have any problems then I'll just have to do it at a later date.

Series 2; I've had a bit of a search and couldn't find any promising titles in the results.

All I want to fit, is some sort of dash button like many other cars have, where you press it briefly and the doors all lock. If it were push on/push off, possibly an unlock feature as well.

Has anyone tried this?

I had a p reg megane that had a switch on the dash to lock the doors and i think my 02 reg clio did it automatically once the car was moving, although you could disable it by holding down a button on the dash for a few seconds.

My old ax also did this but i think that was down to the alarm being knackered as the locks kept on popping up and down...

What tyres do people run with for best grip in winter?

I've always used budget tyres because I haven't had the cash to spend on expensive branded tyres.
In the summer I needed two new back tyres so I decided, due to the number of miles I was doing at the time, to splash out and got two Pirelli P600's (185/65 R15 88H) put on the front and moved...

I think it was stated here before that different brands have different sidewall strengths. It was also said the stronger/stiffer sidewall compounds compliment the xantia ride better than softer makes.

Is the 2.2 HDI (173) a good engine? I've heard about injectors rusting into the heads of the older 2.2 HDI (136) engine.

I understand a large number of reported injector blow-by from certain Ford vehicles has resulted in a revised and improved copper seal (basically thicker I think :lol: ) after, as I understand it, an enormous amount of warranty claims for injector failures were being granted (until they were bothered to discover the real cause).

My beloved Xantia is starting to play up. I have a 2001 1.8i Forte. The latest thing to go is the blower heater. It had shown no problems at all, just got in, started up... and no blower. The green lamp on the aircon button does not light either. I have checked F21....

I have an AX that needs the rh side rear suspension, (bush), changing as the wheel is leaning in and rubbing against the body on the inside and before tackling the job I was just wondering if any special tools are required to remove or re-fit this item, has anyone on here done this job, I'm sure there must be a few by now and any advice would be...

i had an AX GT with this very same problem a few years back, the car had been lowered about 30 - 40 mm and i thought about repairing it but was cheaper to get a second hand rear beam from a scrap yard and then having the suspension lowered again. I think the beam cost about £50 and all i needed was a few hours worth of work to remove the old one...

Just wondering if the below tool is any good. I've got to a point now where I realise I can't do anything else on the car until the cam sprocket is tightened properly.

The cruise control on my xantia does not work and when I push the lever the only thing that happens is a very faint click from behind the glove box, is there a relay there or is it likely to be some other fault ?.

On my Mk1 car, the hose on the vacuum pump has split 4 times in 4 years, and causes total loss of operation, so is an obvious candidate. This is a design fault, as a 3mm hose is forced onto a 4 or 5mm spigot.

When doing a session of citrobic's , at the highest level the stop-light fails to go out ' even after leaving there for a good while . There is also a matter of seconds when going from lowest to drive height when stop-light appears though maybe this is normal .

My daughters 99 2.0hdi had been cutting out on her occasionally over the last 2 weeks and just will not start now ,I have tested a few things replaced filter run a new tempary fuel line from tank to filter housing and nailed it down to no fuel coming from rail side of hp pump I've undone union on pipe going to rail,Proper fuel supply...

Just to clear something up,
I might be going to have a look at a local 2.1 Xantia VSX over the weekend, providings its still available.
I know that some 2.1 XMs had Bosch pumps and others EPIC, was this also the case with the 2.1 Xantias?
Although its tempting due to the current 'cheapness' of diesel, no doubt that this won't last and I'd like to...

Ive a P reg S1 Xantia estate in nearly ready to go out, but the rear bumper needs removing for repair or replace...

My Q is, although the Haynes BOL says remove inner wheel arch trim to gain access to the bumper side nuts.. um, I cant actually see them, theres body work in the way... So were do I get access to the bumper, underneath? Or...

hi all, had this yesterday.. a little suprised, as none of my previous xantias ever seemed to suffer..

Happened twice, after mildly spirited driving.. also got a nice brake smell :)

hi lads.i changed the fuel filter on my hdi c5 lately without much bother.i did not change the filter housing but took it off and gave it a good cleaning with diesel.i see from other posts here that tiny particles can feck up the HP pump.lately i find the car a bit sluggish and maybe slighty heavier on diesel.could my HP pump be possibly half...

Looking at that lambda site they too advocate the use of universal sensors and splicing into your wiring though I'm not sure why there's a year date limitation to the zirconia type, appears to be differing heater elements? Oh...

The clutch on my 1.9TD has starting to slip sometimes when trying to overtake or accelerate uphill.

Since I am planning to change the car at some point in the next 6 months I don't know if it is it worth trying to fix it? I'd rather save my money for the new car fund.

How long do you think it will last? I can treat it gently - will it remain...

My Xantia estate has those clear protectors where the wheelarch meets the sill - are they a good idea? My arches are not rusty but it looks like a possible place where corrosion could start? Should I remove them?

Yep, I agree. Try the simple cheap 'fixes' first. Anders' explanation of an advance solenoid's function is spot on. As he says, it has nothing to do with smoking in normal use.

Check air cleaner, dose the fuel tank with Diesel Injector (Fuel System) Cleaner then an Italian tune-up. No need to rev the nuts off it, just get the engine hot then make...

Hi, well, today the front bumper of our xantia mkII was hit, not hard, but hard enough to knock off the front passenger side over rider trim. The part that is painted on a mkII and black on a mkI xantia. Cirtroen call this the bumper rubber boot on prnet.

Yes, the black plastic scuttle trim needs to be firmly attached to the windscreen especially above the heater air intake. Hi everyone i'm afraid i'm new here, and relatively new to Citroen ownership. I have a P reg Xantia TD VSX, this evening when i finished work the rear suspension on my car wouldn't raise from its lowest setting to normal.

However it would go to its maximum extension but when i lowered the car back to its normal height the rear of the car dropped...

Just the other day i have developed a crackling sound from under the driver side dash area. Sounds like a relay freaking out but everything is working as it should and there is no smell of burning or anything.

Ive tried finding a trend of when it happens to locate the possible cause but there isnt one.

Anyone have any ideas?

If you ignore it long enough, the switch can overheat and have an internal meltdown (lots of smoke from the steering cloumn). Then you really have to replace it!

Hey,

I'm thinking about fitting front (and rear) parking sensors to my C2. One thing I don't like about the after market front sensor kits is that they all have an ugly switch/button you have to hide somewhere.

As factory fitted parking sensors have a button in one of the switch blocks on the dashboard, I though about buying that switch block...

It would seem that you are putting the code in correctly and by pressing button 6 afterwards is correct.
The only thing that could be wrong is the code itself :( :(

If you are pretty sure the radio is the original then your local dealer will be able to obtain the code from the VIN number of your car but they may charge a smallish fee for this...

My 96 1.9TD has rough idling but smooth when on the move. I've tweaked my fuel pump and that may have something to do with it. Presumably more fuel but not enough air going in when the car is not moving. Hi All had the above for about a month now no real problems apart from the leaky back door and pond in rear footwell but nothing I can't sort myself :D

Anyway whent out to start it this evening and let it run for 10 mins with the fan on because there was as much ice inside the windows as outside :roll:

If valves have hit pistons then theres a good chance of NO bent valves... fitting a Cam - which isn't a straight fit and go job - and cap bearings may well sort the running out....

replacing the cam will also need valve clearences resetting, and 8/10 the cap bearings will go tight when fitted to your head, this is due to the fact that cap...

Hi All : on the 1.9 ZX TD girling (cjn48) front brake caliper you have 2 guide pin bolts that are threaded in to the back of the guide pins with thread lock, does anyone have any pins and or know What tourque to tighten them to .. ? Cheers All, Angus

To be honest I never use a torque wrench for anything like this, I just use what I consider to be a decent tightness.

Use the prinipal that the bigger the spanner / socket the tighter the bolt / nut will be.

Were the entire contingent of forum Xantia drivers in Norfolk this
afternoon? In the space of a few 100 yards in Diss I literally saw about
a dozen very smart clearly cherished cars, one of which an N plated
