Strange mechanical sound!

Having this problem on my C5. Usually when pulling off on the flat or up an incline. Its intermittent and sounds like hydraulics straining.

Thought it is/was N/S suspension strut, pulled down cover and regreased it. Today I heard the sound again. Cant tell exactly where its coming from when driving and as its intermittent hard to trace.

Has anyone had this problem or something similar? Its definitely coming from front of car.

I dont think its the gear box because its intermittent but maybe strut otherside. Will try to grease that.

Should greasing the struts be part of a service?

In addition to what Dave HDI advises (and he is probably right) Check drop-links & bushes also. So difficult to trace those type of noises, which sometimes travel along the chassis.
