This has been VERY sucessfully done on older XM's with Lucas mechical pumps and later XMs with Lucas EPIC semi electronic..
IF you fit a 100% Mechanical Bosch Pump, you WILL also need the Pipes and Injectors as the pop pressures are different, and the Timing OUTLETS are in a different position - they still fire 1,3,4 and 2, with No.1 at the gearbox end...
XM's have succesfully run on Mechinical Bosh when they were Lucas EPIC, with little wiring mods etc etc..
You WILL also need to move the mounting studs on the Pump Back plate - once you remove the old pump you will see the studs and TWO other stud positions next to each stud, the studs - 3 of, need moving to the next ADVANCED position on the back plate - if you dont, you'll never get the thing running... Timing must be completely different internally on each pump.

If your fitting a mechnical system, then yes I think you could get away with that, but useually the EGR is connected to the inlet manifold, not to the pump.. so shouldn't be affected...
