Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi all.. as above really, car in question is a Series 2, 1999 W reg, Xantia Hdi 110bhp...

Ive check ALL the obvious - BOTTOM Ball joints, (Brand new one on drivers side), track rod ends, no play, rubber bushes are ok..

Could it be a CV joint/drive shaft, or a caliper problem??

Any sugestions? Thanks guys!

Hi All,

Having decided that I must replace the gearbox on my C5 2.2 I now face the dilema of working out which version it is. I know it's a 5 speed manual, but how do I find out which model? Does it matter? Are they interchangeable?

I have a '95 2.0l 16v 89000miles - just started ticking noise from front - topped up LHM and raised / lowered twice - seemed to cure problem but now has started again one day later - is this the accumulator sphere needing a change - if so how is it done - am reasonably mechanically competent

didnt see you asked how it was done :roll: with the engine running lower the car to minimum height (not needed but its always best to depressurise everything for saftey sake) turn off the engine and open the bonnet, the acc sphere is on the front of the engine and on the front of the unit it is fixed to (pressure regulator) there is a 12mm bolt,...

The rear ride height was 30-40mm above the max specified in BoL, and I have now adjusted it, such that it's now only 5mm above the max specified. It was last adjusted by Citroen 95k ago, and for some reason has become much higher over the years. Is this just wear in the system? Perhaps the clamp bolt wasn't torqued up enough?

Can anyone tell me...

OK, thanks Paul - just thought I'd check. It had a sensible tightening to keep car on road, but in view of it's importance, thought there might be an official torque figure.

I'm wondering if it wasn't tightened enough when adjusted many years ago, but I don't want to overtighten and risk stripping a thread

I have a crack in my windscreen and unfortunately the insurance i took does not cover glass :oops:

My MOT is coming up soon and i was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good place for a new windscreen? and any ideas how much it might cost?

Hi Terry,

Dead easy if you have a hydraulic press. Otherwise pretty difficult despite what the BoL says.

They will be well stuck by now and will need several tons of pressure to push them out of their comfy hiding-place. The BoL method of using a big vice, washers and sockets does not work in my experience. It might have on a brand new car but...

Have a xantia that gets a very hot (not boiling) then stops. If i wait a few minutes it starts ok and seems ok again.

-Checked the plugs, and they seem fine. A little white but should be within range. Also changed them recently.

-When the fan kicks in the rev goes down a bit.

-Before it stops the idle is very uneven. And there is hesitation...

A good point Gerry,

One of the GSF vans was filled up (albeit with diesel) at a forecourt and subsequently ran like a bag of spanners. The mechanic drained 12 litres of water out of the tank from a 40 litre fuel up :shock:

It had happened before to one of my guys on their car also :wink:

Have searched a few times on the site but nothing found to assist.

My ZX has not been run for a while, all working OK until I tried the indicators, they will not turn on at all. The hazards work and fuses appear fine. I believe the same relay serves all.

I just wondered if anyone has an ideas / tips. I suppose the switch in the column could be...

good to hear,

that is the first port of call with the fault you had, because if the hazards are working it can be the flasher can/relay, as all your indicators were working, but not inipendant each side,

common fault as the hazard switch dose not get used very offten so when it goes for the MOT,

all the electrical grease inside the switch has...

hi all, today my rear suspension went itself to the highest setting and wont come back down again,
what have i done?
i tried oiling the centre rod.

I put plenty of grease in the cups and on the balls before re-assembly. You may find (as I have in the past) that it's not just wear of the cups, but corrosion/rusting of the balls, which makes for not such a tight fit. My Xantia's ball on the anti-roll bar part was quite rusted, and the cup can be pressed on with a good thumb press - not ideal,...

Is there anything other than the head gasket that can allow the engine oil to enter the coolant?

There is no water in the oil, just oil in the water. The hoses to the oil filter have been bypassed and there was no evidence of oil down there. The car is running perfectly well, temperature and exhaust are normal, it's just putting oil into the...

Hi, over time my Xantia estate hdi 2000 has started to give me a suspension problem when I first start the car.

When starting it, I'm having to wait 20 secs or so for the STOP warning light to go out, but when done so, the rear end of the car sinks. It then takes another 10 secs to lift to the normal position. Is this the centre rear anti sink...

The very same thought in my mind too Richard.

The rear axle centre hydractive electrovalve is opening with lower pressure
in the sphere so the axle 'swallows' a slug or the high pressure delivery
dropping the car down until it reaches equilibrium pressuring up again.

Anyone know where the tilt switch for the boot light is located on the Xantia?

Mine has been intermittent for a while but has now quit completely. I've checked out the lamp holder and bulb and these are OK.

Hi guys, I had my Xantia HDI 90bhp Sx chipped a few months ago.
I did a return journey to Reading the last weekend, knocked up over a ton a few times
did the jourmey in 4hrs each way...(on sat nav!!!!)
Brimmed the tank before going, and filled it up on return.
35 Litres to brim it........
447 miles
35 dividede by 4.54ltr = 7.07925 gallons
= 63...

The steering wheel on my 06 C5 has a fair bit of play in it, it is possible to pull it towards the driver and back again - has anyone else come across this and how easy is it to fix?

It's maybe just doing what its supposed to do. Look to see if the locking mechanism is in the right place. The lever is on the left hand side of the column below the two stalks.

some time ago I lost the chrome top half of the Citroen badge on the front grill of my xsara mk2.

It's my understanding that an OEM thermostat is specified to more or less the preferred running temperature.

Shooting the temps with a pyrometer in various places, is a good way to feel how it's behaving - check the head near thermostat housing, the block on opposite side, upper radiator hose. I would trust the gauge on the dash for anything...

I have read (not without some disquiet it must said), that Veggie diesel fuel options can have serious detrimental effects such as on piston ring gumming, as well as oil dilution - these causing serious damage unless very much more frequent oil changes are envisaged.

The pistion ring gumming is very typical when using Castor based oils in racing...

From what I have read the ring gumming is particularly problematic for DI diesel engines. Of course, I wouldn't want to persuade anyone to use WVO or SVO in their engine without them fully understanding the risks involved. Personally, I can live with the risk as the fuel costs me approx 10ppl.

Actually, when I managed to hear it, the clicking wasn't a problem. It went for a long time between clicks. I just had trouble hearing it, possibly because it was so long between them.

Peugeot XU engines seem reknown for rocker box oil leaks, the XUD is neutorious for this, and these twin cam engines...

The manifold pressure sensor on my MK1 Xantia 1.8i 8v please, im eager to locate it and give it a clean out as im told by Sir Jim that this may be a reason why it doesnt run right.

Im not that mechanically minded so a diagram or laymans terms please! :lol:

Be aware, a sensor is just one part in the circuit and you need to eliminate the rest of the circuit before condemning any sensor.

Problem with my Xantia estate 2.01 turbo diesel.
The front suspension height 'regulator' fails to recognize the 'normal ride' setting. Low setting is fine, off road setting is fine. It will go from low to high, and high to low and that's it. It won't go from low to normal, or high to normal.Back works fine in all settings.. Any help greatly...

Dudes,

I have a problem....see if you concur...

- Slightly lumpy idle.
- Blue smoking whilst running (not severe)
- Big oil eak from the crank pulley area even when not running.

My diagnosis after having a look is either the front crank oil seal, or the crank pulley itself.

Im sure ive read somewhere that lumpy running and burning oil...

I don't yet know the reason why yet but the battery was totally flat on my
v6 yesterday after it has sat for about 5 days unused. I've fully charged the
battery and fitted it as per the usual practice for my s1's with the ignition
on and then connected the positive terminal. The car still sounded a mono

all 4 electric windows and sunroof on my s2 stopped working. thought it might be a fuse but they are both ok under the dash

could it be the relay, is it one of the ones under the dash?

According to the book of wires relay 3 is sun roof, relay 4 is front windows and relay 6 is rear windows. The only thing I can see in common is big fuse A under the bonnet or possibly C.

No. The Eolys is there to reduce the temperature at which the particle filter burns off the trapped particles.

From reading this post the 2-stroke oil is being used to add lubricity to the diesel so as to prolong the life of the moving parts...

Decided to look for some alloys for my berlingo van, it's a 2003 facelift model and at the moment it has the standard steels with 175s on it, anybody know which wheels are a straight swap? only looking for simple stuff like off a 206 or the like, just don't know what size i can go to or if i need special bolts, anyone done it?

just replaced rear disc pads and the rear passenger side pads are a bit lazy coming off of the disc, they take about a second to fully release, is this an mot failure

Had the exact same problem when changing front disc pads. Binding brakes, with the wheel raised it took about four seconds from brakes where released to I was able to turn the wheel be hand.

I assumed the piston was binding because it may be rusty where it until now had been exposed to air and dirt. Dismantled the caliper, it looked fine though,...

Guys i know its a bit sad perhaps :P but i had a call from Citroen in Birmingham today to let me know that our new van will be arriving on Thursday....A brand new 2009 1.4HDI Citroen Nemo :D

I have driven these before whilst at Trafford and they are cracking little vans. Driven hard on the motorway they still return between 65 and 75mpg :shock:...

(As it's known!)

For the first time ever, it came on whilst the car (Xantia) was running yesterday - three times, all at or near idle.

Since then, it hasn't lit mid-run but lingers after startup. Is this to let me know there is a stored fault item?

Once in a while my normally reliable C2 refuses to start.
I turn the key.. all the lights come on but no starter motor.
I had thought I had narrowed it down to when it rained overnight, there was a chance it wouldn't start. But today was dry and warm.
I can always start it straight away by bumping it and most times that cures the no starter motor...

Yup it was definately the solenoid... replaced that and the motor gave up.. now after 2 secondhand motors from the breakers.. I've found a reasonably priced one on e bay for £97.
Fingers crossed that one will last a bit longer than the others!!

The top engine mount on my VSX has gone.The mechanic says that the existing mount was fitted upside down!(as far as I know by a Citroen dealer)
This has destroyed everything upwards from the mount itself and made it very difficult to remove the existing rubber/metal mount.Whilst at the garage there was much hammering and use of cold chisels all to...

Get the cam cover off and see if its all intact.
If it's broken up inside, then you have two choices:
1) new head.
2) new cam and caps which may take a while to source enough caps to find ones which fit. The caps are numbered, make a note which order they're in.

XU7JP engine for any one not sure. Auto gearbox too.
I'm looking at doing the TB, water pump and associated pulleys/tensioners in the next few weeks and would like to know exactly what tools I require in the way of pins and cam set tools etc. Also doing the harmonic balancer, before or after, whatever is suggested as most sensible.

Ive no idea how it works either, although i understand its just to do with the bushes and mounts. Its in no way connected to anything and only reacts with the cars weight and direction.

You can actually feel it working, if you throw an Xm or Xantia into a bend it feels very slightly like the back is breaking away, however its the rear steer...

Hi all,

The clutch on my '95 Xantia TD has finally got to the point where I have to replace it. I have the clutch kit (GSF) and just need to get the nylon bushes before dropping the box. I'm not too worried about the main part of the job but the cable is fitted with an auto-adjuster.
A search on here brings up a couple of posts relating to this...

Sorry for the delay in replying.

The clutch is not particularly heavy (maybe not as light as the new(ish) one in my son's Mk2) but has always suffered from a severe judder since I acquired the car 4 years ago. The take up is smooth to begin with but then as the pedal is released further the judder appears and finally the operation...

Check the wiring plug going into the fan sometimes these plugs can give a bad connection, meaning intermittent fan activity, the plug and fan is located in the passenger foot well the upper carpeted section just below the glove compartment, the carpet should come off with 4? screws.

I had terrible problems with tick over on my 1.8 when I first purchased it, it would rise and drop like someone was pulsing the accelerator then conk out.

Hi folks

The sliding caliper is siezed on my ZX's front n/s disc brake. It's a Bendix model with two bolts and sliding assemblies. I can see that one of the rubber gaiters is split.

I'm going out to look for a repair kit tomorrow. Can anybody tell me what's involved in fitting the kit. I assume you get new rubber gaiters and grease. Do you also...

The only other figure is 35 Nm for the Girling caliper Guide Pin Bolts . I'm wondering why there's such a big difference between the two types.
