This is a perennial early C4 problem which I have experienced first hand ie water and muck getting into the engine compartment via the rubbish sealing arrangement at the windscreen base. The rubber seal simply butts against the lower edge of the glass with clips to hold it in place - no sealant or glue is used. It is very easily dislodged.
For an in depth discussion of the problem I suggest you visit and/or join the C4 forum at http://c4owners.org
