Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi folks

The washer for the rear screen on my ZX hatchback has stopped working. On investigation it looks like the washer pipe has snapped at the point where it crosses over from the roof to the hatch. There's a rubber grommet at the rear of the roof and the pipe seems to have snapped off at this point. Either the pipe has snapped or the system...

Thanks for the reply Jeremy. I managed to get a new piece of pipe from the grommet, through the roof, to the existing pipe where it runs above the rear offside quarter-light. Unfortunately I only had 3mm diameter pipe which is too small to go over the non-return valve. I've now found some 4.7 mm diameter pipe, so I've have another go with that...

So after changing the rear spheres and topping up on LHM and doing a good round of citrobics i dont notice any differance in comfort ,if anything the rear feels even harder :cry: ..the only thing i can say is that it self levels a little bit quicker :roll: ...

What could be causing this ?the accumulator sphere?All the LHM in the system is stilll...

Its certainly a good idea to change it but I will be surprised if it makes any difference to the suspension, if there is enough pressure to get it to the correct height - there's enough pressure. I still reckon its your tyres.

If anyone else is wanting to know, its in the glovebox behind the fuse box cover. Pull off the peice of trim with the little pocket attached and its just behind there.

dont know what happens here but when i start my xantia my speedo and rev counter have shot up so much so my rev counter has gone all the way round and stuck there my speedo goes up to about 50/60 and i am still why this?

I found a single strand of solid BT telephone wire (with insulation stripped off) was thin enough to fit along side the reset button, flexible enough to get to the needle, and stiff enough to give the needle a flick.

Hello folks and a Happy Christmas to you all.

My 2000 model year 1.9D berlingo has an intermitant fault.
You can get up in the morning and it starts first time. You then turn it off after 10mins of driving, leave it for 10 mins to cool down, then go to start it and the battery is flat? eh! I don't get it!!! But then once it has been jump or bump...

When I changed the oil and filter, I was pleased to see that the area of the sump below the filter was very clean. So after I had replaced the filter I cleaned the area again so that any leak could be quickly spotted.
No engine oil leak. But................... there is a clear film of what I'm sure is LHM now evident........... it may well have...

Hi,

this year martin at pleiades has flushed my suspension with hydraflush and refilled with new LHM fitted all new six spheres to my Mk2 1998 estate
it is a non-hydractive car.

Martin lubed all linkages with silicone spray and the car even went back when I dicovered a small LHM leak.

all has been fine until the temps drop to minus five at...

Have taken note of the part number cheers. I guess the mechanism was ok because the car still lifts to top and drops to the bottom setting it just wont stay in the middle (ie normal driving level).

Hi,

Its been along since here last.

My son who now has the ZX has a leak from the Thermostat Housing, can't remember whether its a Gasket or 'O' ring to seal the housing to the head.

By O Ring, my mis conception, I meant it seals against the rubber seal that stis round the edge of the thermostat.. without the thermostat it cant make the seal ON THE INNER EDGE, so you'd have to use a sealent on the outer edge..

Tried it myself when my thermostat had stuck shut and I didn't have another..

Thought the lift pump in the tank was sounding a bit noisier last night. This morning the engine turned over but (I you always seem to just know it) it wasn't going to start. Couldn't hear any noise from the back so lifted the back seat and gave the pump a thump. That was enough to get it running (sounds as rough as anything although that could be...

Got the unit out and it is very easy to dismantle to replace either the fuel pump (in my case a Bosch Unit 0580 464 982) or the fuel gauge sender.

Hi,
I have an early 1.8 8V petrol Xantia that had an 89deg thermostat fitted.
I've recently replaced it with an 83deg one because that's the only one I could get locally.

As you know, the spec for the Xantia thermostat was changed in 1997 from 89deg to 83deg. Was this by design, or was it found that the engine was running too hot at 89deg?...

Agree, what is 6°C in that high a temperature.

It's probably the difference between driving like an old man and 'enthusiastic' driving.

When I drive to work my oil temps half way on the gauge, and when doing motorway speeds, it will be up a 1/4 of a notch up, no biggie really is it.

Alright fellas festive greeting and all that. And with it getting cold i am gonna have a look at my heated seat that doesnt work :(
The car is an exclusive so its all leather and the passenger seat heats up lovely, but nowt on the drivers seat. So i was wonderin if any of you guys had experience with this? Could it just be a case of checking a...

I fixed both front seats on my xm by stripping the covers off (also leather) and soldering in a short length of wire to the broken section(s) of the heater elements. A long winded and tricky operation but has lasted a couple of years now and didn't cost anything more than a pack of cable ties :D

i've got a 94 1.9td SX Xantia.

been fine on LHM for about 10-12k (how long i've had the car) but in the first bit of cold weather we had i had a flickering stop light on. Brakes and steering were all fine and it wasnt constant so i put it down to some ice causing the issue. I pulled up and put the suspension into high and checked the level, the...

Just about to leave. Car has been magnificent all week. Just get in it to go to supermarkt and the coolant light and STOP came on with beeping. Has come on again. CAn't bl00dy believe it. Just about to set off.

I suspect the guy selling the car put some water into the coolant and it is cold here. Could that be the reason for the warning?...

Coollant should be the Citroen OAT based stuff. The alternatives will reduce the life of the heater matrix. I think you can use Forte antifreeze without problems though.

Without wishing to preach to the converted, may offer some advice to those with little experience of real winter driving: -

Put a bag of grit/salt mix and a proper steel shovel (not one of those stupid plastic things that break) in the boot. Several rubble bags too for grit, the wet/salty/rusty shovel, snowy boots. An old towel isn't a bad idea...

Is it common to get a higher contents reading for a short period of time on Citroen's after refueling.
Both my Xantia's dropped < 2 needles width after 1/2 hour with the cars parked (and running)
Never noticed it on any other manufacturer, even the Peugeot 505 we had, what went in stayed, the only time this does not happen is with a full tank....

Ditto what Paul said - unless the whole length of sill is crusty, then it might be better to bite the bullet and buy replacements, you'll still end up fabricating inner sections and possibly jacking points though if the outers are that bad :shock:

Going on long journey andcar was steering to left and shuddering at 70 so booked in to get tracking and balance set.

Shuddering aint so bad but the car still steers quickly to the left.

Does tracking not address that or am I getting it wrong?

If it should have been addressed in adjusting the tracking I will nip in on the way home before I head...

I would instantly suspect the wishbones on any car first, I know this is C5 specific, but I had a case where the steering would pull to the right under load, and realign to center when off throttle, brake and it would jerk to the left, this was because a bush in the wish bone was popping in and out of place throwing the steering out.

Christmas holidays.
Bored.
Time to do some of the things that need being done with my car.

So changed my front discs to get rid of the warped one and upgraded my pads to Green Stuffs.

But it looks like the caliper on the driver's side has a stuck slider, one of the guide pins doesn't slide very easlily.

Going to take the pads out again tomorrow...

Re above can a Xantia fail an MOT on soft front suspension. It failed on this and a few other hings as well. When I spole to the Mot tester he said he would give me a pass if I did the other jobs and left the ssupension alone.

Problem is I have taking it for retest and this tester is off today. Someone else will be re testing the car.

Quickie boys.....

After a browse on the finnish site Xantia World, It lists number 8 fuse in the compartment near the battery as the Hydractive fuse?

My question is this...Until i get round to getting down to Jim's and having my rear electrovalve thingummyjig checked, im wondering if i remove that fuse, will it stop the car flipping the rear...

Is it ok to drive without the hydractive ecu attached to the car? it's faulty and stuck in hard mode anyway, so does it matter?

I can live with it for now, i am planning to repair the ecu over my xmas holidays anyway and fly it over to richard for a memory clear.

Besides i'd have to buy 4 non hydractive spheres anyway wouldn't I, i'd rather buy 4 spheres, two centre (if needed), anti-sink and accumulator than buy the 4 strut ones for the time being, but i get the idea......

My Picasso clutch pedal is not the cable variety but the type connected by a clip to a pushrod.
the pedal arm keeps popping of the clip on the push rod.
Can I change the clip on the push rod easily/cheaply or will I need to buy a very expensive entire kit?

Sounds like a hydraulic clutch, no idea myself, I would not assume you need a big expensive part. Someone else will know too.

You should have asked in the Citroen section you would have an answer soon, maybe a moderator will move you.

Xantia V6 MK1 did this about a week ago then ran and started fine . It is just producing that click on trying to start. All lights dim on key turning.The battery in it aint great but has been working ok. It shows 12 volt and drops to 11 when starter key turned. Boosting with a healthy battery and jump leads makes no difference. Just a click from...

Taken relay et all out again and simply hard wired it back in with some heavy wire. The relay and fuse etc would maybe have been an issue to renew in those positions on a cold dark night . There was also the heat issue. All Ok atm.

I think I may have dropped a boo boo,
I changed my LHM for hydroflush on the 7th Oct and haven't had time to replace it with LHM (I've now done almost 3k).

In the larst three days my power stearing had got heavy, is this due to the flush being in too long ?

Just got new LHM but it's snowing out there so will have to do it another day.

This afternoon decided to do oil/filter change on my car. First time on this car.
Completed job ok, but I've got a bolt left over from the undertray. I took off three nuts which were on studs at the front and FIVE bolts further back, two one side and three the other. All put down very methodically until job finished.

you dont need to slacken the bleed screw/valve when replaceing any of the four corner spheres, only once fitted it is best to open the bleed valve and leave it with the engine running for about two minuites, as this is what citroen use to state with older hydraulic citroens if the system had been opened, when replaceing components or pipes...

Firstly C5's use LDS not LHM & they are not mixable.
Secondly the braking system is completely independant from the suspension & steering on a C5 & uses standard DOT 4 brake fluid.
Copper pipe should be fine.

I recently took my Xantia (96) for its MOt. Although it passed the MOT tester remarked at the front suspension being very bouncy. It seems to drive ok, there are no fluid leaks and the suspension goes up and down ok with the internal lever. Although the car sits level the ride height on the std setting does appear to be higher than normal.

If the ride height appears to be out don't go adjusting the antirollbar to height corrector links until the height corrector springy linkages have been taken off and given a good clean and this will significantly help the accuracy of the height correction.

MY seatbelt on driver side is getting on my nerves. It tried to choke me last night and I had to fight it off like an attacking snake.

How do you tighten the tension on the wind up thingie in it?

I put it on and it does not wind up any when I let it go so there is a snake of belt.

I will give the cleaner idea a go but just concerned that it doesn't get stuck in the door. That happened before in C5 no1 and the door jamed on the metal. Muppet broke the inner door handle trying to get the door open.

Well hopefully this is the last of the niggley problems with my newly purchased Xantia.

Following it being off the road for a number of months due to timing belt snapping.

The previous owner had new discs and pads put on the front.

So driving it for the first time it feels like the ABS is constantly working vibrating the brake pedal very badly....

Headlight could be the plug on the rear of the lamp, unplug it and clean the connectors..

Indicators do indeed go through the hazzard switch, my guess is a faulty switch, and only a replacment would fix that..

My goodness, what did I see before me, after taking the airbox off, another cover bolted onto the gearbox covered in cables and pipes, how on earth do you guys lubricate the clutch mechanism without taking that plastic cover off.

In all honesty, the engine bay in the xantia 1.9td is pretty crowded, nice but crowded, my wife's golf 1.6 of the same...

there is a point where it get lighter about half way, i don't think it is worn as such, on the other hand, but that plastic cover has never come off before by the looks of it so it could be dry, but it will probably be the original clutch

Blast it! Got the heater blower working again, now another problem has raised its ugly head to trouble me!

Got home from work, tried to lock the car using the remote keyfob - nothing. Tried the spare fob, same result - nothing.
Worked perfectly up to this point. Car locks fine with either key in the driver or passenger door.
It's the radio type...

](*,) Hi, at the drivers end of dash, on the side facing d/door there is a switch. It is a press type switch with a sonar type picture on it. I think its summat to do with inhibiting the p.i.r. on alarm(like for when you leave a dog for example). As the previous owner wont pass on the manual to car I'm stuck. Any help lads. :lol:

Shes not Lumpy, she runs on 5! A defenate Plug out miss, but fine when warm and the meatal has all expanded and sealed the Gap properly..

I had a squeal from the alternator belt drive area which died away whhen raising revs above tickover. The bottom of the belt jumped up and down, as if too loose.

Hi,

I'm halfway through doing the aux belt on a 1998 Xantia TD (late s1).

As usual the BoL is telling lies and the tensioner arrangement is completely different to that shown. Seems to use an eccentric tensioner pulley. The problem is, I've got the belt off but can I get the new one on? Can I *$&**% :evil: !

Can anyone give tips urgently??????...

If the head of the bolt is damages, theres no alternative but to drill the head of the bolt off, and remove the lower bolt, remove the tensioner pully and then unscrew the rest of the drilled bolt out, and replace with another one of similar length, OR the rough way, get a Star shaped Torx adapter, and BASH it in with an extension bar and undo it...
