Xantia Throttle cable spring??? (1.9TD)
Driving to work this morning and noticed that the revs were a little high on tickover. Ranging from 1250 to 1500, when normally just under 1000.
Then realised that if I put my foot under the pedal an lifted it, the revs returned to the normal level.
Just wondered if there was a return spring or something somewhere that may need replacing.
Thanks again

The spring is on the pump really.
I wonder if you have either a seizing pedal shaft or the cable itself is starting to fray inside (anywhere) which could cause it to stick slightly, it would only take a mm of loose strand to hold it a bit.
I don't think its the antistall / idle speed as the acc arm is separate from that.

My money's on a fraid cable, probably in the cyclinder by the air filter.
New cable kit is about £36 I think, or £3 if you buy a grear change cable from your local cycle shop. Needs to have a small enough blob on the end though to fit in the throttle pedal clip. Oh and don't cut off any excess, just wrap it around the throttle arm on the pump.
Also make sure you've removed the dampner off the throttle arm/pump front.

Fairly sure its a fraid cable, as was getting worse on the way home.
Is it an easy job, just pull the old cable out and thread the new one through. Any issues with the cylinder thing by the air filter.
Thanks again.

First time I changed mine, I replaced the lot, it lasted about 3 months.
That's when I found an suitable cable for a few quid from the local bike shop.
With that I had to cut the frayed bit out where the cylinder is and pulled the cable through to the foot well (and the other bit out by the pump.
I carefully pulled the cable out of the plastic clip and gently squeezed the new one in, then fed the other end through the hole in the foot well and around through the original sheath to the arm.
I had someone floor the pedal while I pulled the throttle arm as far as it would go, then tightened the cable in place and wrapped the excess around the trottle arm so it can't get tangled on anything.

Sorry to ask once again.
Just trying to get my head round what needs to be done.
1) Disconnect cable from throttle arm.
2) Gently pull old cable through to accelerator connection. This will then give me the length of cable that's needed and also the size of the blob on the end.
3) Visit local bike shop and purchase similar cable.
4) Can i then thread cable "up" from accelerator pedal until it reaches throttle arm. (can that black cylinder thing by the air filter be disconnected, so would split the cable run into two sections)
Thanks again.

Yes that's the process.
As for removing the cylinder, I believe it can be done, however you'd have a gap/split in the sheath that may let in more dirt/gunk than having the cylinder there would.

Sorry to be silly Dave but being not very mechanically minded, I would say my Citroen dealer did mine for about £70 if I remember correctly including the cable! That was a year or so ago and still ok at the moment.gadgetgricey wrote:Sorry to ask once again.

Thank You Kenny,
May take you up on your kind offer, but just going to try the cable first as no point taking the bit off you if its not needed.
Not going to be able to have a look till next week (In both days this weekend )
So will get back to you then
Thanks again.

Thanks for everyone's help on this, new cable fitted today.
Bike Cable £2.75
Little bit thinner but works fine, and quite easy to do. Bought a spare one to keep in the car, just in case, but seems fine.
Now just got to find the front height corrector as per my other thread.
Cheers all.
