Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi people,

Right, I got the bits from RS components this morning, so off I went to fetch the Hydractive ECU from the car, I snipped the contacts off the old VN05N and carefully soldered them all out, hopefully I haven't transfered too much heat into the resistors next to some of the connectors.

But getting the actual transistors off the 'wings'...

Sadly the fact that you can hear the the electrovalves humming does not necessaraly indicate that your diodes are OK. You should hear 'clonk - hum' when you open the door but you should hear another 'clonk' when the valve closes after about 30 seconds, if you dont it can mean that the valves opened but didn't remain open, which is what...

Hi all,

I've just registered on the site as today I have experienced my first issue with my 1999 Xantia 2.0 HDI SX.

It's been running perfectly and then today it would not start on three different occasions, every time it turns over fine but it seems the immobiliser will not turn off when the key is in place.

The tailgate has been jammed for 2 months - managed to open it yesterday and tried reapplying plastic membrane and dry out foam. Is there any way a manual line can be fixed to the locking mechanism to open it from the inside when I want to or do i need a new lock mechanism

Well i had the connection of me speedo where it goes on the gearbox, give it a clean, connections look good no signs of corousion butand still nowt :(
If it was a dash failing would other dash instuments start playing up as well as the speedo?

I've been undecided whether or not to try flushing the heater matrix of my ZX just in case some kind person has used radweld in it. Last thing I need is a leaking heater this time of year.
However this cold weather has made my mind up for me, I plan to have a go at this over the weekend.
I've had a quick look at the pipes where they come up from...

Yes Steve I think I agree, they may be on the same in/outlet, but they are ported you can tell be the shape of the design..it wouldn't work other wise..

If Ken has cleanly flushed the matrix, it can only be a low water supply, caused by my Bad News post..

Once the Head Gasket has reduced water ways, there isn't much chance of clearing it.....

Anyone know how to remove the instrument panel in order to change a bulb please ?, I have a haynes manual for my old ZX but the panel although similar doesn't appear to come out exactly the same way, my fuel warning light bulb appears to have blown, it doesn't come on when turning the ignition on and certainly doesn't work when fuel is right down,...

Well, my 1998 Xantia 1900 TD which is heavily used has sprung a leak. Near side rear. Its leaking on the unit which has a rubber gattor on it, I've had a feel of the unit that the rubber gattor covers and it's loose, the off side one isn't so I'm assuming it's knackered. Hi,

my xantia estate has been parked up now for about two weeks.

what could be drawing so much power that a reletively new battery goes flat within two weeks?

could this be the alarm or maybe the computer?
or is it just the really low temperatures we have had recently?

I charged the heavy duty battery when I bought it for three days.

The break peddle on my xantia is about 300mm lower than the accelerator , in fact it is touching the break button! It is actually resting on the button. I have a feeling it is making the breaks drag on! But not only that, my foot sometimes hits the clutch, and or, both at once! a bit messy. Am I missing a spring? Regards, Dave.

hi lads i hit the car tonight on the icey roads. damaged the rear driver's quarter panel and back door. also bent the rear suspension. mine's a 2001 hdi 90bhp, would parts from a 98 2.1 d turbo be the same? i know they both have discs on the back...

Agreed!

Infact even a rear frame from a 1997 Series 1 would do the job as long as it has anti sink and ABS...

Make sure the 2.1 frame has ABS fitted as the rear sensors are impossible to remove intact.. but rear frames are quite a doddle to remove, obviously the exhaust has to come off, then theres 4 pipes that run front to rear.

How many knew this ?

The bonnet can be opened upto and past vertical for better service access ? Don't do it in windy conditions though , it only rests against the stops in the just past vertical position and will blow shut quite easily !! Although I've made an extra long support strut to use in such conditions !!

Hello, does anyone know of a garage/specialist/friend who could rent the flaring tool for the Citroen hydraulic pipes?

I've got a corroded front to rear pipe (Xantia II 110hdi estate) and it looks a bit of a nightmare to access and change at the front. I've already purchased the replacement pipe/seals and I believe GSF can supply the union...

i had the tool from martin for the 3.5mm pipe and it works a treat ... just remember to clean the old pipe on car of the plastic coating thats on it and the tool works a treat.

Hi folks

I just went to view and test drive a V reg 1.9TD SX and have a few questions.

How long should the STOP light stay on for when you first turn it on? And if it stays on for a while (about a minute, it went off after it was revved a bit, but I'm not sure if the revving is what helped it or just the length of time it took while it was being...

I thought it was something turbo related that meant he couldnt remap the 110's. The only reason he only does HDi90's is because he used to own a 306 HDi and mapped it himself (very well I might add), then decided to sell the map to other forum members, but he tweaks each map...

Thats ok to test if you have appropriate equipment and details to test them, but when you haven't...

For anyone who is interested I've attached a photo of my fuel filter replacement. Once I'm happy with the results I'll tidy the fuel pipework a bit and disconnect the heating pipes from the original filter housing.

And with an old inner tube wrapped around filter to stop chaffing.

I am back down in Burgundy for a couple of weeks, managing to avoid the -15 temperatures of last weekend.

The high speed vibration that was present before the transmission rebuild is still there and if anything, worse.

I don't really notice it in the UK, because it only starts at 120 kph (75MPH), and only when the engine is under load, but by...

My money would go on engine mounts too. The clue is in your comment on the load conditions where the vibration occurs. The torque reaction of the engine is absorbed by the engine mounts , if they have become soft or worn they will allow the engine to oscillate when the load reaches a certain point.

I have had the alarm turned off (under the bonnet) ever since the key fob stopped working.

The other day the alarm sounded when I started the old girl up in the morning, (a bit embarrassing) it sounded twice then stopped.

Took off the engine covers for the first time when I changed the oil/filter last week (have covered 1800miles since then!).
I noticed what I suspect is the fuel filter - quite a large unit with what might be a drain (a large knurled plastic knob) coming out of it.
Should I be doing anything with this?

That`s for priming/draining your filter as you have no rubber bulb like the XUD. It is a totally different procedure on the HDI and is done using the electric pump through the ignition switch IIRC.

Hi guys new here, i bought a 90bhp xantia this week, the car doesn't seem to boost at all in first gear, then in all the remaining gears there's very flat power until about 2750 rpm, then she boosts fully. Any ideas? i'm thinking MAF...
Also there's a factory fitted cd player which won't read cd's, any cures? thanks!

I understood the 90Hdi doesn't have a turbocharger......................

It has a turbo, its the intercooler that its missing compared to the 2.0 HDI 110.

I have a Xantia TD SX, and would like to replace the driver's seat with one from a Peugeot 504, which had to be scrapped. Mechanically this is not too difficult, but it appears that the driving seat on modern cars is linked electronically to the airbags.

I've discovered that there is a magic box which will fool the electronics into thinking that...

I have a 97 Xantia CT with what I suspect is a poor earth. I have cleaned all the earths next to the battery but I still don't have any dash lights except for the accessory light, I don't have fuel, water temp. oil temp. gauges or rev. counter. I do have head and foglight and blinkers showing on the dash. The horn, wipers,...

As Addo says it is a Ser.1 CT.
The lights that illuminate the dash work quiet well the ones not working are the great array of lights you would normally get when you turn on the ignition and as I said the gauges and rev. counter. Cheers.

Hello

I have a 2001 1.9D Berlingo, but the front washer is intermittent and the rear one doesn't work at all.

I've no idea what the problem is yet so any suggestions would be welcome, as well as the best way to access the motor, which I think is somewhere around the front offside wheel arch.

I'm looking for the best place/price for front disks and pads for my HDI 110 Xantia. I've noticed some on E-bay for around £70, one is no name and the other is a branded one. Does anyone know where I can buy cheaper?

Sounds about right, as the Xantia 110bhp uses the LARGER disks and Pads from the V6 Xantia...

I really can't pin this down..........................

Low mileage (45000) well serviced, no issues except this noise which seems to come on when he car is hot. But not always.

Only hear it when idling. It is as if a fairly noisy fan is running as well as the engine. Not been able to find any action that changes the noise (depressing clutch,...

The various hydraulic tubes throught the Xantia. They are different DIA. Are they all the same thickness ? What is that thickness?

Can`t beat having proper tools. There are a few good Hydraulic specialists around here...I will keep my eyes peeled . I know that lots of that gear is CIT Specific. It is amazing the things you come upon which will cross over though.

today i picked my discs up from paul (nice chap), and hurried home to do my front brakes.

all went well with the drivers side, handbrake cable off, clip off pin, pin out, swing caliper up, pads off, caliper off, disc off, wind back caliper anti-clockwise, discs on, caliper on, pads on, pin in, clip in, tighten, handbrake cable back on, then...

And beleve me Ive done PLEANTY of them, and they DO BOTH do clockwise!!

Its the C5 that has a Clock and anti clock wise calipers..

Please can someone help me? I have told my car aerial is rusty and needs replacing, the shop told me to do this the whole cable that goes from the roof to the radio will need replacing, does this sound right? I was hoping to get an aerial from the breakers...

Hi,

Just a quickie, On my wing mirrors I have a couple of wires attached to the back. I presume these wires are for heating. But I can't find a switch to turn them on.

Do they come automatically? Or do they come on when the rear windscreen heater is switched on?

Do all cars have heated mirrors? Mine (year 2000 Hdi90) doesn't seem to have heated ones.
Generally speaking those equipped with electric mirrors were also heated, especially on S1 models.

Hi I have recently bought a 2001 HDI picasso with 160k miles.
When bought I noticed a ticking, tappety noise as you accelerate through the gears until it dissappears when the revs get higher. There were no warning lights, power fine, just this noise which still persists.
Any suggestions on what this may be??

hi,

was over at pauls today and i saw how soft the rear of this xantia sx was, lovely and fluffy comes to mind, anyway, he says normal sx spheres are softer than hydractive when in soft mode, so to get the hydractive as soft as possible would it be nice to put sx spheres on, or is it a silly idea?

Vince has got it right, the only proviso I put on using non Hydractive sphere's on a Hydractive car is to think about how you use the car, i.e. Do you carry a full load more often than not and do you regularly drive the car quickly, if that's the case then stick with the standard set-up.

hey all,
im trying to solve my girlfriends problem with her xantia, the suspension is hard and there is no power steering at all and the brakes seem a bit soft, its not being driven at the moment as its too dangerous, basically i looked at the lhm reservoir tank and its leaking on the top, but i cant seem to find any where visible its coming...

hey all, thanks for your help, the car is now running great, i found the bleed screw and there was a lot of air in it, the stop light came on the dash and left it running for a while, turned the engine off done the bleed screw back up and its now running fine, took it for a nice long drive and no bad symptoms of before, lhm is now on the right...

spheres are obviously specificed by their volume, pressure and damping hole size,

I am having a problem with the passenger side window on the above car. The window will lower, when operated by either the drivers or passenger door switch. Howeber the window will not rise (intermittingly). I have checked the switches and they are O.K. I have also checked the wiring where it exits from the door passenger side, and have not found...

Lets start off by saying that this term is somewhat of a misnomer. Bottom window trim would be more accurate. The trim is moulded to include a drain channel that leads water down inner wing and to the ground. It really takes the place of a standard bottom window rubber.

Big ask guys.

I require a loan off a locking wheel nut key to take the old nuts off my C3 as i have lost it.

i have a new set ready to put on but need the old ones off please see picture

in return for the loan you can have my old set of nuts.

What you need to do is get an old box spanner that has the same diameter as the holes and pencil the pattern of the holes around its edge and grind all the gaps in between down leaving some raised pins that will lock into the holes.

saves a few bob and works to. aaahha youve found one then thats even better, lucky you have a wheel nut fairy in...

The car is off and when you turn the key the central locking button is illuminated and when you press it to turn it off the child locks come on? I then turn off the child locks and the car is ok again until turned off again?
