Citroens around France - Part 2

Post by Citroenmad »

Two years ago when I was last in France I put up a thread of pictures I had taken of fairly rare French cars I had spotted, so here goes another.

I am in France again for a couple of weeks and might add more before I leave, I will certainly be taking more pictures as I see interesting cars.

Xms are in short supply, though I have seen about 6 now, including one estate and only 2 off those were S2 cars.
BXs, I have seen a few of now, about 3-4 phase 1 models and 3-4 phase 2 models. I have also seen a phase 1 Sport BX today, and the remains of what was, two years ago, another Sport which was for sale at the time.
Xantias are popular, though almost all are basic specs with black bumpers even on the S2 Xantias. Today I saw a dark red (same colour as the current ebay car) MK1 Activa! It had twin exhausts so maybe a V6? Though it wasn't badged as a V6, just Activa. I took a good few pictures of that car.
I have seen a couple more Ds today, only one a road goer, I have also seen a road going CX Safari too. Visas seem to be in low numbers, only about 3 spotted so far but C15s are everywhere. Renault 4s, 2Cvs, Dyannes and Meharis are the most common older French car sight. They are around to be seen, but you often have to b on the look-out for them.

Some of my enjoyment of coming to France is to see the French cars which still lurk around in thr rural areas. So here is a selection of my best pictures so far: Ok so not all the better ones but decent!

A CX Safari DR which looks to have been sat for a little while:

This was a early R5, phase 1, at one point, before it was crushed, put in a skip and had scrap thrown ontop:

2CV:

A white DS I followed for a short while:

An old Talbot Tagara or something, it was hard to see from the road side as it was under shrubbery, it must have been there a good while to get like this but it was totally untouched, fully intact, just fogotten about. If that had of been in a good majority of UK it would have been stolen, torched or taken and weighed for scrap before its owner even got out of the feild - its a very different way of life in rural France. Also note the Clio V6 in that pic, a rare sight here:
Image

A 1965 2CV for sale for 8900 Euro and a R4 Fourgonnette. Also a base Xantia S2, they mostly look like that around here, not many with painted bumpers:

A Phase1 BX 19 GT:

Mehari:

2cv needing a light resto:

CX Safari, road going:

R4:

Deserted BX:

DS:

S1 Activa, the first I have seen, twin exhausts so maybe a V6:

DS, 405 Style and my C5:

As for more moderns, there are a lot of big Peugeot 607s around, I really like those. C5s are very popular, they are everywhere, I have seen 3 C6s, C4 Picassos are all over too but in basic odd specs - steel wheels but electric folding mirrors etc.

The older cars often appear a little faded and in some cases bumped about but there is never any real signs of worrying rust.

I have a lot more but that is all for now, I also have a lot of scenic pictures but this is a car forum ... Ill be taking more over the next couple of weeks, ill probably put up a few of the better ones.

Hope you enjoy the pictures :)

A little bit of poor wording on my behalf there  Three days to be exact! Edited

Where that BX is there are loads of 2cvs being taken over by the scenery, two Ami 6 saloons and estates, all sorts of things. Ill stick pictures up at some point. I like looking at stuff like that, definitely a plus of the holiday to see all these older French cars. No Tractions yet though, someone we bought some cars off earlier (1.43 sized!) did have a full scale Traction but I am yet to see one here, have seen about everything else.

I LOVE the "2ème nez" Dee. It just needs a clean and detail; the car has patina to spare.

Crikey have you been on the road day and night for three days stopping every couple of miles to take photo's? I don't need to use my imagination to know what SWMBO and my daughters reaction would be if I kept stopping as often as you have to take these photo's.

I'm as bad. And if the SW lookalike is there, she'll light a smoke and wander around quite happily.

 Most were snaped when walking around local Villages and some are in small collections of forgotten about cars placed in fields and old garages, I only had to stop 2 or 3 times. Just shows how many are still around to spot.

Paul, apparently the last two weeks here have been rain non stop, luckily it has changed for us. They have rain but they dont get the bad salty winters like we do, so the cars last. Also its very dry most of the time, whcih does help.

While wondering around a village yesterday, about 5 miles from where im staying, I came across a CX DTR under a canopy, a DS parked just a little bit away and another CX DTR parked by the side of the road. Behind that there is a S1 CX TISSIER 6 wheeler. It has obviously been off the road for some time but its complete, not too rusty and its quite a sight. I think possibly the first Tissier CX I have seen. Its a 4 door version, I think it was an ambulance but has been converted into a large van at some point.

Hi Chris, le Tissier, ou est ce que en France? I am over in Main et Loire shortly to see family and have a gander at a cheap V6 Activa so may have a look at it if nearby.

I am on the lookout for an interesting vehicle for my wife's gourmand chocolate making business. I had thought about a HY, but a Tissier may fit the bill.......

Great photos, keep them coming.

I have some similar photos to upload from recent visits, including many vieux bagnoles Citroen et Renault.

Chris, I've no idea if this garage is anywhere near where you are but it always has interesting old Citroen's in stock.
