Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The firing order is 1-3-4-2 But bear in mind the cylinders are numbered back to front on this engine, cylinder one is nearest the gearbox & 4 is at the timing belt end.

the leads are not on so exactly on the coil do they go in order ? anyone ?

Hi, took my Xantia estate for MOT, now front permanently at highest setting. I have never touched ride height lever so presumably when
MOT guy changed it , something with linkeage to front height corrector broke. I only have axle stands and a jack, even if I crawl under and identify a problem , will I be able to get enough room to change whatever...

Hello Guys

I've noticed that the offside rear tyre is wearing down a on the outer rim. This is second tyre I've put on in about 2 months. I know I drive swiftly but it's getting silly.

there looks to be scrapping on the actual tyre.. loads of little slices in the rubber.

Can I assume this is a worn bush or something?

Previous posts would suggest it's a Xantia. In which case, most likely to be the trailing arm bearings at fault - the tyre is probably rubbing on the inner wing, hence the damage to it.

Hi, 2 months ago i had to have a suspension pipe replaced on my car as it burst and dumped all suspension fluid over a car park leaving car sitting on arches. Since having this done it now appears I have a similar problem as I had noticed small leaks, suspension pump seems to making a strange noise when i unlock car and now my steering groans when...

A One-Man brake bleed kit might do to pressurise the reservoir.

In that pdf they say that the car should be suspended with the wheels hanging.

Looks as though that would work though and the power steering should bleed itself with lock-to-lock movement of the steering wheel.

Hi there guys, I have a 1998 R berlingo 1.9D which has developed a leak from the lucus diesel pump.
Fuel is seaping from the top of the pump where the throttle linkage goes into the pump

I have been told its proabaly just the seals that are leaking and its a simple job to remove the top of the pump, replace the seal, jobs a goddun !

The light that tells me my hand brake is on keeps flashing/stays on while driving and the is brake fluid reservoir is on the full mark. any idea's?

The brake fluid level sensors are a relativley common failure, you have to change the whole reservoir as the sensor is not a seperate part.

yes this seams to be the problem. I have unplugged it and the light is no longer flashing thanks!

Well had a funny feeling it wouldnt be long beforei returned to ask for some help.

After getting the wheel bearings sorted it appears now that the oil i was finding wasn't gearbox oil.

Its in actual fact a suspension line.

I can see it if looking in the N/S wheel arch....it runs from behind the gearbox over the driveshaft tunnel and down the...

Can anyone help? I have had an intermittent rear tailgate lock working and not working :cry: - ususally sorted by repeated locking and unlocking. Today it stuck in the locked position and I managed to unlock after crawling in the back and prising off the plastic bit (advice elsewhere on the forum).

As Jim says, the two wire type. Again, as far as I remember, the 5 wire type is a two wire motor with an internal changeover switch so that front doors can operate the central locking. You could leave this unconnected if replacing a two wire.

Note that cars after about 2000 may use totally different door locking systems.

Hi all

Can anyone confirm that the filter housing top is the same size even though the height of the housing is different.

The reason im asking is i have a slight crack(broken off :twisted: ) in the outlet pipe on the lid on my 2.1TD and im hopeing to aquire a lid from a 1.9TD today :)

Hi, my first post on here.

I have a '98 Xantia 1.9 TD which has an LHM leak. It is leaking from one of the unions to the pump, tried undoing it and cleaning but it is still leaking. I suspect it is fractured at the flare. Tthis is not the type of union which has a rubber seal as described in the Haynes manual, it is just like a normal brake...

Thanks for that advice, I've undone the joint, loosened the clips, cleaned it all up and re-assembled and...... Bingo! no more leak :D

Hi.. In relation to the Other post about Tailgate locks..

Does anyone know how to open the boot soliniods, I have the same problem with XM boot lock, certainly on an Estate I ve sold..

Be interesting to see why the locks seems to Jump open rather then locking and unlocking the boot lock..

The solinoid Jump when you lock it too, so the boot...

Guys, a short while back someone drafted up an image of the LHM sticker often missing from the reservior of Xantias and XM's.
Looks like this:

I have obtained a quote from a sticker place to make a batch up.

They will charge £5.50 a sticker but only seem to want to do a run of x10 or more. Is anyone interested in getting one for their engine...

I made some last night and have fitted one which looks a treat 8-)

Printed on paper, laminated with a piece of thick sellotape front and back and then stuck on with industrial strength double sided tape.

Looks great and has lasted a fulls days driving so far with no complaints :P

Does anyone have a (revised shape nose) C5 in VTX+ trim? Do you get a warning of low screen wash fluid?

I'm sure mine used to give a warning, then it would tell me the level was low every time you used the washers, dealer fixed it and now it never says it is low.

The head mechanic says that model doesn't have a low screen wash level warning....

Hi Guys,

looking to replace my XPic for a newer model spotted one a 2004 model but only 22,000 miles for the same price as a 2006/07 model with 40,000-50,000 miles both 1.6 110bhp HDi`s.

What would be the better value bearing in mind that i think the newer one has a FAP system on it?

I asume the 2004 Picasso is a 2.0HDi?

The 1.6 is supposed to be a good engine, possibly more ecomomical than the 2.0 too. The FAp system isnt too much of a pain on the later cars, mainly the early 2.2 C5s. So as long as you get the fluid topped up when its needed then it 'should' be fine.

Id go for the later car, which will be the facelifted...

I noticed a few threads on the 110 HDI exhaust.

On the way to work this morning mine broke, Not a nice simple back end of the exhaust but just in front of the cat on the bend.

Is there a down pipe that can be fitted and do away with the cat.
The rest of the exhaust is salvagable i hope.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Failing that i'm...

Found a local place that sleeved and done away with the cat.
Called in there yesterday as i've been away most of the time and he said i will open early on Saturday morning and do it for you before i start the jobs i have booked in.

Local garage to me and an independant garage.

Job done for £60.

After much research and also searching of this forum I have discovered thanks to a nice diagram I need the seal with the part no 0000402688.

hi guys, has any one else experienced a problem with the gearbox on the berlingo? i have had my van from new, 9 months in and something failed on the gearbox that prevented you from getting it out of 5th gear correctly, it would go in fine but instead of pulling back into neutral it would try to enter reverse , after was in the dealer they fitted...

Visual inspection with a strong magnifying glass would probably show a stress fracture caused by the bending process in the first place. With each gearchange that put a load on this side of the bracket, the crack would extend at an increasing rate until failure occurred. Bottom line: a manufacturing defect, perhaps due to a flaw in the steel...

Does anyone know the pin assignments for the push button dash switches or can point me to where I might find the info as Haynes is no real help?

In particular, I need to know how the illumination works. It looks like there's one feed for light off, one for lights on and the obligatory earth but which pins and what voltage?

Hi Guys,
I have a Xantia 1.9td 1994
I can drive up to about 3 mph and then from the front near side wheel comes a knock knock knock, I have jacked the car up and felt for wheel bearings being worn but as of yet nothing ? any suggestions?

Yeah try it on full lock...it should be worse. Are you riding at proper height settings?. They can sound strange if not although it sounds more drastic than this.

i had the exact same problem with my berlingo van last week, in all my year i have never seen such a stupid designed clip for such a used pard, i tried bending the clip back through the whole but no joy it kept releasing again, however that hole with the rubber grommet it just big enough to get the end of my mig welder through, i can tell you now,...

I found the problem ok and it was as you said handyman a broken wire between the body and tailgate.
I had to cut open the rubber at the tailgate.

should you be able to access the set menu at any time or only when the ignition is first switched on?

When I turn the ignition on, it shows up with English and I'm able to scroll through all the other languanges but nothing else. Think the LH button must be dodgy

looks like it must be a dodgy button, the display has now got a mind of its own flashing up English from time time and occaisionally scrolling through all the setup pages.

hello, when i was getting out of my xantia tonight there was a very loud hissing, i originally thought the valve had just gone in the back tyre, thats what it sounded like, lasted about half a minute, then stopped.. tyre was still inflated so i got a torch and looked underneath...big puddle of green goo..it's dripping from above the spare tyre...

On my late 2000 Hdi Xantia I have what appears to be a leak from the back of the pump. I am presuming a seal has gone. Leak has gone gradually worse and the other half is not happy about the large LHM stain on the drive ( which by the way is proving tricky to shift, even Gunk has little effect anyone have any better ideas of how to clean it??!!)...

Hi,
Can anyone help please, my Picasso has developed a tapping in the engine, on tick over there is no noise, if you drive very gently there is no noise, but if you drive the car under load there is a tapping from the engine untill you get to approx 3500 revs and then it is as though someone flicks a switch and the noise goes when driving over...

I have a 51 plate 2.2 HDI C5 estate when it rains the o/s window comes down half way, you then have to keep flicking the window button to get it back up it seems like its lost its cut off point tried to reset it but no joy. The battery has been tested and its ok the needle on the voltage meter on the dash seems to favour the right hand side could...

Another suggestion for dash bulbs - look on ebay for fruit machine bulbs - they are the same as many dash bulbs and very cheap to buy this way - I got a batch of 100 for a few quid a couple of years ago.

Hi all. The Engine management light has come on, on my Xantia MkII HDI 90 Bhp Sx. I had a in line chip fitted and it stopped working, the car would idle ok. I took the chip out and the car runs ok. But the engine warning light is light up all the time. The car runs 100% ok.

There's an option on the Lexia to clear the fault codes.

A lot of the time once the codes have been cleared they don't come back unless the sensor is actually faulty.

It could of been a sensor that gave an out of range reading that triggered your light.

Just in the middle of removing the HP pump and alternator so I can replace the aux belt tensioner - dodging the showers here in sunny Norfolk.

Starter questions, probably more to come as things progress:

There seem to be O rings associated with the unions on the metal pipes going from the pump. Can these be reused and where do they fit, below or...

So far so good - sort of.

As for the HP pump, the feed pipe joined OK but the left hand union (nearest the aux belt) is weeping slightly. I've tightened it as much as possible but no joy. I'll try loosening it and re-tightening just to see if that works.

When I switch on I am greeted with 3 beeps and a dashboard message that says 'Engine Fault' which goes off after a few seconds, leaving a yellow warning icon that stays on, in the very last display window on the right. The car runs perfectly o.k. Any ideas please, apart from 'Consult an expensive Citroen Dealer'

mind you dont allow the inner most inner race to be pushed out of its seal/seat whilst you are installing the drive flandge into the outter inner race,

i usualy use a length of threaded bar with a nut at each end and very thick washers, and one of the old inner race's against the inner most inner race and the rod all the way through the drive...

I have a citroen ax10, I took the aux belt off today as the car wasn't charging. I found this (see pic).

I also noticed next to the alternator there was a thin wire with a spade connector on the end, not connected and there is a post on the alternator marked 'B' with no wire going to it and no wire anywhere that looks like it would attach.

The ECU doesn't need the signal does it? Or is it purely there for the oil light?

I am not 100% sure to be honest, I doubt it would use that, although it would make some sense (regarding operating the fuel pump) but I doubt it does use it for anything.

(1) How difficult is it to change the clutch out on it?

which in turn pulls the thrust bearing away from the flywheel (back to front clutch),

hi all,

my xantia 110bhp forte has started making a horrible noise from the front the faster you go the louder it gets.

now a week ago it could only be heard at motorway speeds...now though you can hear it in the cabin and town speeds.

I think its a wheel bearing but it has only arisen in the past week.

Had the wheels off to check for anything...

I have a problem with my rear suspension. The car sometimes jumps around uncontrolablly when I drive it, but sometimes it works just fine. But when I have someone sitting in the back or when I put something in te trunk, there is no stoping it, it jumps like it's on a trampoline. They're the 3.5mm ones. Ether get them from GSF or Pleiades. Main dealers should have them too..

A few seal tips: Make sure every trace of the old one is removed from the height corrector.

Lubricate the new one with LHM and knead it in your fingers a bit to soften it up.

Push the seal as far on the pipe as it will go, right up to the flare....

Hi. Yesterday my 2004 C5 was working fine - now, there is no activity from the pumps and the internal switch has no effect, up or down. I've checked both fuses referred to in the manual as being connected to the suspension. Both ok. I'm assuming it is an electrical failure, possibly a relay. Hi,

I bought a 2001 C5 while in England and it's got the great built in sat nav system.

It worked a treat, getting me from Birmingham to Stranraer without a hitch. But now I'm back home in Northern Ireland... which doesn't seem to be covered my the map!!!!!??

It says my current destination in the last street i was on in Stranraer, before taking...

The drivers seat in my Xantia rocks slightly and creaks as a result. The base and back rock together, so I don't think the frame is broken. I have tried to locate the mounting bolts but all I can find is a mass of tubes and cables 'cos the seat is electric and heated leather. latest problem pls help. near side rear door will not unlock. it seems the central locking mechanism is not functioning on this door. i have had the inner door off but cannot release the lock. i have also removed the door hinge pins but as the door is fully locked i cannot even remove the door to check the lock. if anyone has any ideas how to...

Had this also twice on a C5, and it was everytine the child lock was used, if the Child Lock was not used it never caused a problem.

I also removed the door card, then with a light if you look at the LOWER side of the lock you can see the back end of the Red dial thats used to activate the child lock from the outside..

My Mum phoned me today stating that the battery on her Golf was flat, as the car is five years old it presumably needs replacing so I looked on GSF's website for prices but can't see any mention of a car battery anywhere. Is it merely that GSF won't post them or have they stopped selling them?

I very much doubt it's the gearbox itself. I believe these vehicles have a cable operated gearchange and going by your symptoms, this is where the problem lies.

Stretched cables will put the gearstick in the wrong position.

Don't go swappaing gearboxes unnecessarily...
