Comms2000?

Post by JT »

Hi folks,
My 2002 C5 HDI has started to jump from full beam headlights on, back to dipped beam without touching the stalk.
Sometimes it will stay on full beam for a few minutes before jumping back to dipped and sometimes it will stay on
full beam for only a few seconds!!
Is this the comms 2000 problem I've read about on the forum or is it just a problem with the stalk/switch?
Any ideas??
J.T.

Both, probably! The COMS2000 IS the stalk / switch (it's an all in one unit covering both stalks and the rotary connector). Not cheap unfortunately, but provided you don't have ESP, it can be changed without a Lexia (requierd to re-initialise the steernig angle sensor).

Thanks Richard,
The car is one of the earlier models so don't think it has ESP.
Is the comms unit difficult to change?
I presume it means removing the airbag and steering wheel.

Never done it, but in principal: Remove air bag, remove wheel, remove column shrouds, remove COMS 2000. Refit is reverse of removal

It is an easy thing to swap over, just be sure to follow the procedure for air bag removal (disconnect the battery and wait 20 minutes).

I had one C5 which would indicate left three times, then the indicator would stop and the headlights would come on. Pretty handy

The ESP button on C5Is is a mirror image of the cigarette lighter, just next to the gearlever. If you don't have that its a very easy swap.

Don't have any button like that, so will give it a go over Christmas.

Happy Christmas folks.

If buying secondhand make sure you get the right unit they are different ESP /NON ESP and it is possible that there are differences AUTO Box / Manual don't have the data to hand but the Auto box needs to know if the car is turning which data it gets from the COM 2000 unit.

Also, if buying second hand the stalks/comms2000 units differ with spec. So if you get one from an earlier C5 saloon and yours is a later one with a rear wiper it wont be on the stalk. etc.
