Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Seen, what on the face of it, is a very tasty and tidy looking Xantia Estate TD for sale down in Exeter.
1998 on 'T' I think it is, with a mere 60 odd k on the clock for £1395
Spec sounds odd though. Dealer description so he probably hasn't got a clue. :roll:
Leather but no mention of air con for instance, but it looks like an LX or possibly SX...

If you find that it does make a difference, I'm sure there's a nearby hill of the necessary gradient where you could stop to check your oil every now and then.
However, if it makes that much difference, you'll need to consider what's the 'correct' level - after all, depending on the position of the oil pump pickup, you might possibly run into oil...

2003 C3 HDi Exclusive.

The child locks work fine with the button on the dash, but every time my wife starts the car she has to remember to set them. Which is a problem apparently. Is it possible to set them to ON by default?

There are buttons by the rear door locks, but how do they move as they seem pretty fixed to me.

Can anyone offer any...

Is the dash button purely for the child locks? If so, I've noticed that most features tend to be toggled auto on or off by holding the button in. Take the anti-hijack feature in my Renault, where the doors lock when the car reaches 5mph, that's turned on by holding down the central locking button on the dash for a few seconds.

Can anybody confirm how these are assembled correctly?

The centre box to cat joint is easy - it slides in and then is clamped. The rear joint appears to only be able to butt together, and the clamp holding them. This doesn't look right as there seems to be a section on the centre box for sliding the rear box in.

The cone type joint is way better than slip joints in my experience. Installing the clamp does have a bit a trick to it, a pry bar is your friend !
I've found that the cone joint will come apart even after being on the car for years, generally, a slip joint will rust solid and need cutting off.

Year 2000 Xantia Hdi90 saloon.

Last weekend I drained the LHM, cleaned tank and filters and re-filled with Total hydraflush. No problems, it went well.

I now want to replace all three rear spheres (car is not hydractive / activa).

Are there any drawbacks to doing this while hydraflush is in?

Well my wife wants to get rid of the other C5 HDi 2ltr LX 110bhpwhich I love and have tried to have fixed for bloody ages now. The car has zero power when going up shallow hills with a engine warning light on.

I have a 1999 Xantia HDI with about 170,000 miles

The clutch pedal height has been about an inch and a half higher than the brake, with clutch action starting maybe about level with the brake pedal

I have eventually got round to changing the LHM in my year 2000 Xantia Hdi90. Mileage 62000, service records show main dealers did this job at 28000 miles five years ago. Not a total job; I just drained and removed the tank, cleaned the filters and the tank and filled with 'Hydroflush' (TOTAL Hydraurincage). I didn't flush through the brake lines...

I was very pleased the nipples were all easy to undo - that was the bit of the job which scared me the most.

Hello,
driving home from work last night a young lad in a 106 ran a red light and hit my nearside front end. Only real damage appears to be a smashed indicator and headlamp, 106's front and was totally pushed in.

Car drives fine so dont think anything structural but....
what do i need to look for and where can i get a indicator / headlamp from?...

Is it worth replacing the sparks with iridium ones or is there a negligible difference on this sort of engine?

It's easy to be all overcome with techy babble but in the real world I doubt that the sparkers would make anything but an ever so slight effect on economy (and certainly never enough to justify the cost) in a standard engine/car.

Hoping to have some light shed for me,
Have replaced the 4 corner spheres, will be getting on to the others at a slightly later date.

Hi, The rubber pipe that is fixed on the end of my air filter is split.
The pipe is corregated about half way along , and then fits on the turbo end . Can anyone tell me what it!s called, as it will be very difficult to order over the phone. without name.

You need a very small flat blade drive to go in the little slot at the base of the cover, you use this to hopefully release the little bit of clicky plastic which holds the top on after which it should pull off.

Friend has a 59 plate C5 HDI. The problem is a leaking clutch cylinder which leaks fluid onto the clutch obviously causing slip.
He's been quoted £1200 to repair this !! I seem to remember there is something peculiar about the clutch hydraulic system on the C5, can anyone elucidate please ?
We can do the repair between us if we know the issues.

hi guys i have a xsara and i have problems with the STOP sign and teh red light above the temp gauge.

My fans are working, as i have unplugged the blue temp sensor, and the fans come on, and they go off again when i plug it back in, assuming my engine is not overheating.

Just been reading this thread...

...and it just cements my fear of the modern car, not just Citroen, but ALL makes and models.
They are all quite simply, far too complicated for DIY, with far too much ridiculous and uneccessary gadgetery on them now, just waiting to go wrong usually.
They all virtually totally rely on plug in diagnostics now....

Hi, I want to change the gearbox oil in my 1997 1.9 TD .
Do I need any special tools? What type of gearbox oil should I use ? My local Citroen dealer uses Total .

Ideally Total BV 75/80 but Castrol 75/80 will be OK.

Nothing other than 75/80 though - the boxes are VERY particular about it and will eat the synchro cones if anything else is substituted.

Windscreen wipers are fine on all settings except normal wiper mode, ie, fine on intermittent or double speed,just don't work properly when you want constant/normal wiper operation..typical :wink:

I have done the 3 finger test on the Xantia and it's more like between 4 and 5 fingers which is too high, so a couple of questions.

I have said in other posts that the car seems too bouncy especially on the front.
If the front is too high i presume this would give the effect of it bieng bouncy on the front.
Before i spend out on front spheres...

Handy tip for removing the LHM resevoir.
once you've got the pipes/filters out, and the two nuts off the back, get a pry bar or wide flat screwdriver and slip it in under the resevoir then twist to pop the spike that jutts out the bottom from it's grommet without spilling any LHM, so no need to syphon, but you might need to move the airbox out the...

Was trying to start the car, with no luck and I realised that I wasn't hearing that buzzing noise when I turned the ignition to the second stage, which makes me think there's a fuel pump problem.

Does the Xsara petrol engined car have a fuel cut off switch in the engine and is it accessible to me? If so, where is it and what does it look like as...

i think you will find in that case the double brown relay is dead,

i had this very same thing on a pug 206 were my DIAG 2000 (pug version of the DIS LEXIA) could not see the ECU at all,

After reading the info on this forum regarding the fact that most people reckon the 110 BHP 2.0HDi to be the best overall package, i have just been to see a 2.0HDi C5 with 105000 on the clock but have walked away for the mo as it is gutless!!!
It feels like it's in limp home mode yet if you get the revs up to around 3500 then the turbo seems to...

Yes I agree, dont go wasting your time and money buying something which might take a lot more time and money getting right.

C5s are not hugely rare cars, there is a good selection on the used market, find the best you can and not the first thing you see.

Its what I do and ive not had a problem yet.

Been absent from here for a while, XM things taking up too much time, having 4 all around me needing gearboxes, steerings racks, headgasket swaps etc etc..

No this is not a comparison post for the Two models..

Hello, I own a 2007 Berlingo 1.6HDi Multispace and was looking to buy a workshop/service manual for the vehicle.

The Haynes books that I have seen don't go up to 2007 and from the outside (can't look inside as they all seem to be shrink wrapped nowadays) do not cover the 1.6HDi engine.

Has there been a manual printed to cover my model?

I don't think the CD's are that good, and they are likely to be home made copies I suspect. I did borrow one a while ago out of curiosity (different make not PSA) and it was not much better than what was freely available from the manufacturer anyway.

I just looked and I see what you mean, I looked for the Partner manuals too, none appear to cover...

Following on from my earlier post about loss of power, I had a chance to spend some time working on the car this weekend.

First off I checked the vacuum solenoid valve, which on the C5 is cunningly mounted neat the bulkhead in an almost inaccesible position :evil:

The original part seemed fine, but I fitted the replacement one anyway and took...

in regards to finding a possible boost leak take the pipe off and manipulate them by hand, i didnt and a s a result couldnt find it (knew it was leaking somewhere though so bought a complete set) as soon as i took it off i found the sodding leak :(

I'm going to see a Xsara 1.9D estate tomorrow, obviously with a view to purchase if it's in reasonable condition for its 135,000 miles and £500 asking price on a 'T'.
The BIG purchasing point though is obviously which pump is it running on? Bosch or Lucas, and I haven't got the foggiest how the differences can be identified tbh.
Any clues or what...

One thing I noticed about my green 2.1TD SX was that the PAS was always quite heavy, and a PAS 'malfunction' was one thing flagged up at the MOT.

So I set about checking the LHM tank --> HP pump pipe for air leaks, it looked OK. So if it's not that it could be crappy LHM with dirty LHM filters. I set about removing the tank and filters, words...

Certainly was a good job I delved into the LHM tank - the stuff that came out wasn't far off coca cola colour..

I have owned my 58 plate C5 for 9 months now...I got the car at 23k miles and it now has 30k miles. Its been in the dealers now 4 times :

- depollution fault, engine cutting out - replaced fusebox for ECU

- suspension fault - replaced steering rack & suspension pump (oil leaked all over my driveway)

- clutch slipping - new clutch to be fitted...

It doesn’t look like they still use much polypropylene.
Most plastics seem to be ABS, a relative of styrene. :shock:

A wide variety of plastics are used, according to the codes molded in to the shell the headlight shell is polypropylene, the outer lens is polycarbonate and the reflector assembly...

I've just parted with my Xantia & just wanted to say thanks for the help I've received here, directly or through reading old posts.

I was hoping my old car would be appreciated by a new owner & am amazed to hear it has been sold on privately for close to £1000. Not bad for a 98 car!

The 2.1 is smoother and more progressive from 1000 - 1500 rpm, the power all comes at once on the Hdi and not as smoothly.

hi guys

i have a xsara 1, made in april 2000 hdi coupe, 3door.

the internal fan isnt working properly, it works on all modes - face,feet,face/feet, and demister, but its not blowing out most of the air, it sounds like its blowing it out behind the glovebox, iif that makes any sense.

face is the most effective mode, but still not effective...

It won’t be different because only air conditioned cars have pollen filters. :mrgreen:
It’s called pollen filter, but its actual purpose is to keep the evaporator clean.
The pictures show a long, narrow rectangular piece on the floor.
That’s the cover to slide out to get at the filter.
From your picture, it looks like it’s between the centre...

bit of a daft question but av just took me air bag off the steering wheel to find that i not got the right size socket to remove the steering wheel, questions is can i drive the car without the airbag on it without causing any problems to the system cos the tool i need is at me brothers house and it aint in walking distance,

Basically I've just bought the Xantia with a few niggly problems and I thought the battery in the fob was dead as it didn't work but I also realised there was no feel to the buttons, so I took it all apart and it appears that there should be 2 micro switches there after scanning the web, but I cant seem to find any info on the exact switches, what...

A couple fo weeks ago my wife noticed that the footwell of the rear offside passenger seat was sopping wet. I vacuumed out the footwell (using an aquavac type thing) which merely left the carpet damp. I checked out the drainholes in the sunroof (the front ones as I park facing downhill in my drive) and they were fine. The door seal looks OK. Thgis...

Is it an estate? If so it could be the plastic seal inside the rear door. I had problems with a wet boot for years, till I found this forum.
I have had a dry boot for over 2 years now.
There's a opaque plastic cover behind the trim on the boot door which seems to be there to stop water leaking in through the rear wiper seal from getting into the...

Hi.

The Mother-in-law has had some issues with her Nemo. It's a 1.4 petrol (09 plate I think). She's had it about a year.

A couple of months ago, she went to start it, and it wouldn't go. The AA were called, who fitted a new battery. (I could mention at this point that I said the same would happen unless the root cause of the drain was tackled,...

Could be anything, its not unknown for batteries to develop a faulty cell and drain themselves over a short time period though, I had one that would go flat if left (even off the car) for three days.

The interior light theory is quite plausible though generally, it won't be a massive drain or it would be flat overnight.

What's needed is a check...

can i simply swap my existing electric window switch as seen in the pic below for a xantia or from some psa car with teh same size 1 touch electric window switch?

since i have taken the glox boe out the airbag light is now on, idefeintely did not catch any wires while pulling it out.

the gloevebos is out now, and still on the floor, i hope that when i put teh glovebox back in that they light will go off?

the air bag ligh on dash is flashing constantly.

i did not d/c the battery when removing the...

Hi my Xantia's horn is not working nor is the remote part of the central locking, there is also a clicking noise coming from the indicator relay every now and then, so I am wondering if the dead locking alarm is faulty or is this just thinking out loud lol, any help is appreciated, thanks :D

If you have a muiltimeter, get it on the terminals and get someone to push the horn button. If you have normal voltage, the horn is toast. If you have no (or low) voltage, wiring will be at fault.

Not sure why but the sunroof stuck on tilt. Checked the fuses they look ok. Whats the best way to tackle this, I wouldn't mind if it would just close even by manual means or by uncoupling it. In haynes all it says is its too complicated to try to do.

Or, press the hold the speaker button first - then turn the ignition on...

The button in question is on the RIGHT side, behind the wiper stalk, on the dash.... if you have rear electric windows dont get mixed up, as theres one for those with a cross through it..
