C5 2010 Park Heater thing

Unread post by mooseshaver »

In the manual, there is a tempting picture of a remote control to make a heater come on (timed or instant). I've never seen one mentioned in a UK car manual before.
Is it possible to get it retro fitted, and are all the bits already there int he engine bay.
I've considered many times getting a after market one fort he other cars but never quite managed it. I would prefer a proper citroen unit.

I believe the additonal heater you mention is similar to the Ebersbacher one fitted to some HDi Xantia's, MPV's and VW Transporters, on the C5 I believe they are located just in front of the N/S/F wheel arch but AFAIK they are not fitted to UK C5's, the cost of just the heater unit alone for a Xantia was something like £1,300 so heavens knows how much it would cost to retrofit one to a C5.

The glowplug heater fitted to UK C5's is a 1 KW which from my experience heats the car up very quickly.

Ahh that's why my car seems to heat a bit quicker than my previous 1.6 hdi. I thought it was just a bigger engine!

That's an awful lot of money. I presume Citroen ones must have control from the car computer to direct the vents or something?

Anyway that'd way out if my price range. My dad remembers when the vw ones were £300 for a caravel.

The Rover 75's had a diesel heater. You could start it from the car, then use what was called "The Bathrobe" setting to lock the car with the remote. There was an option to start it with the remote, from the comfort of your bedroom. Unfortunately, my Rover didn't have it, but the diesel pipes were in situ and all that was required was to buy the "radiator", split the pipe at the fitting and connect it to the heater inlet and outlet. You could get a second hand one for a couple of hundred pounds. All the electrics were in the car but I think it had to be "enabled" after it was fitted. Great idea, but as said, the new C5 is a blooming marvel. Mine is warm as toast within a mile or so from the house, nand the heated seats start getting warm after a couple of minutes. My Saab took a good 10 miles to start producing warm air so the C5 is the way to go in a Scottish winter.

Using Diagbox you can program the car for pretty much any option option available on the range dependant upon whether the relevant ECU/item is fitted to the car.

I've only got a lexia and don't think it does my c5. Plus I don't want to go looking for problems.

My 406 has an auxilluary heater, it doesn't mention it in the manual or users handbook, I only found out I had it because the heater started getting warm after a couple of hundred yards.

a friends Range Rover has an auxilliary diesel heater, there's a small exhaust that comes out of the front grill and you can see the fumes coming out in cold weather, he still doesn't get more than 18mpg from a diesel Rangie though!
