I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Hey guys, ive been out Battlnig with the car for the past few hours trying to get the shaft out, i have undone the Painstakingly long fine threaded bolts on the 'balnancer, but the shaft wasnt going anywhere, tried all i could,
in the end i have removed the lower mount fromt he back of the block (reason for shaft removal to replace lower mount)...

My mechanic tells me that it is because he added plain water from an oily container
The head has recently been repaired and new valves installed
But I am concerned if it might be head gasket problem

I have a C4 1.4 petrol (2004), with blown gasket. The original gasket was the composite (paper-like) gasket.
I am trying to buy a new gasket, but so far i can only find the Composite type gaskets (Glaser, Cortec, erling brands)

I am wondering if there exists a steel-type gasket for this engine (OEM number is 0209.FL)?

I have only used the laminated steel gaskets on diesels, if they make one for your car I don't see any reason why you shouldn't use it, they are certainly much tougher than the old ones. They use them as standard on the diesels now and they seem to last almost indefinitely.

Can someone help me pick the right sphere choice as I would like to buy the whole set of 10 spheres and I don't want to mess up. :roll:

As ever when the MOT looms (ok, it's 3 months yet!) and the car is broken (exhaust again, and drop links, possible ABS sensor, accumulator to change, needs new tyres!) my mind turns to replacement. Saw this C5 on Autotrader . Suspiciously cheap? Should there be a 1 in front of the mileage? Probably needs Cambelt, handbrake cables, exhaust, rear...

Bracket changed and suspension running, just changed the 2 rear corner spheres with the Xac tool.Saw the link after making the 'P' remover.
No problems but the anti sink sphere is another story. The supply pipe will not turn and the 9mm flared spanner I have appears slightly too big so will obtain 8mm and try...

At Citroen service website, it shows the filter in the diagram, but, there is no OEM code in the right panel (see image, part 11).

Anyway, I think the filter is inside the fuel tank and is not subject to regular maintenance.

I jacked up the rear of my citroen (c5, diesel, 2005 model, must be on hydractive III ) to change the wheels, upon completion, the rear suspension would not come down, I am not sure but when it was jacked up, I might have pressed the down button. Do you think this confused the computer system? or something is dislocated?

my citroen C5, shakes badly/vibrates at about 60 miles per hour. The vibration began when we changed the inner and outer CV for driveshaft
But now something else has began to happen, it is making weird noise (sounds like metal gently rubbing on another metal) when the car starts, while on gear 1, the noise reduces as you go to gear 2,
on motorway...

series 1 Xantia keys

After killing one key the replacement has now died. I've located the issue. The microswitch pins need resoldered. I can see why this happens the pressing of the switch over time flexes the pins and weakens the solder joint.

Any ideas? After resoldering I thought about supporting the switches with resin to stop them moving when pressed.

Would you believe it but my gearbox has gone at only 86000 miles.

I have been told by citroen that it is a cf13 box. Does anyone know what and if it has been put in any other cars? Mine is a xsara 2001 facelift model 1.4 petrol.
I am trying to source one from a scrapyard as i am just going to get rid of it now.

For years I used a strap wrench made from motorcycle chain, I have always managed eventually to remove the spheres but not without difficulty. I bought one of these removal tools and its brilliant because it grips the sphere tight so you can hit it with a hammer and shock the brute loose - doesn't work with a strap wrench, to much give in it....

Sorry, me again. After 4 happy years, two problems in as many weeks!

2004 Berlingo van 1.4 79k miles.

I wasn't concerntrating this morning and ran out of petrol. Put a gallon in, but engine wouldn't start. Everything lights up on ignition position 2, but nothing on position 3 (not even a click).

the van will not start with starter engine turns over easy but if it is towed or pushed it start straight away and runs normally.
have had it on the computer and it said nothing wrong but starter a bit slow and have replaced it.

When you engage gear (drive or reverse) it doesn't roll forward or back as it should.

Sporadic ABS light for a while, and Lexia fingered the OSR, the one that got mauled when I had the arm out earlier in the year. Found out why tonight... (Exhaust has gone again, so had to bodge a clamp on it - rear flange on main pipe has gone, so made a couple of 'straps' for each side of the joint and shoved them on with Jubilees - not gas...

My Dispatch has basically got no Glow plug function at all, following probably poor advice we have replaced the Glow Relay, followed by the double ignition relay neither of which made any difference, I have new Glow Plugs as this was my first idea to change - however have not fitted them as it appears to be a bit of a access issue.

I need to move the lhm tank cos I just can't see where the leak's coming from. I'm losing 200ml every 200kms so the leak's now quite bad. When I remove the lhm tank to see the leak I can't run the engine!

Under the LHM tank there is anti-sink valve. The end seal might cause this leak (see pic).
It can be seen without removing the tank .

My first thought too - it's the green seal. Be very careful how you fit the replacement; it's easy to pinch the seal as you tighten up the screw-in cap.

Xantia lhm leak

Hello everyone. I noticed over the last few weeks that our trusty xantia has developed an lhm leak. Mo have had the undertray off today to see where it is coming from. Can anybody advise from this picture what it is and what is involved with fixing it please? It sits at the back of the engine above the subframe.

If it's the rubber pipe, then it's the return from the front height corrector valve. No need to bleed or do Citearobics (though the latter is always good to do).

While you're there, check the tightness of the gland nuts on the pipes going into the valve body - use a proper gland-nut spanner and be gentle; if any are slack tighten up (gently!)....

Hiya, I think my ignition switch contacts are just about to die and just wondered if this a known problem area for my old Xantia? :/

Symptoms:
Start car and with car running and after glow plugs have stopped being powered.
Battery light comes on and my permanently installed volt meter shows around 11-12Volts, (which is below the normal charging...

Driving to work in the storm yesterday and my usually trusty Xantia throws a wobbler and the gear stick goes totally loose in my hand and am stuck in first. Luckily only a mile from home so limped back and forced the 2CV into service against its will plus its freezing!!

Checked out the situ last night and the big rod from the gear stick has come...

Xantia Front & rear Washer jets

Hi All, my Citroen Xantia Estate HDI has just developed a strange problem. When you activate the front washer jets the water now squirts out the front and the rear jets at the same time. They also have less pressure?

Can any one tell me how they work, is there a valve for front and rear jets or a non reutrn valves etc? so i can have a look over...

Hi,

I replaced the mass air flow sensor in january (bought off ebay), this weekend the Engine Mamagement Light came on, then noticed same time car had flat spot in acceleration, assumed MAF as similar symptoms to earlier in year.

I removed and sprayed with unipart switch cleaner which is not supposed to leave any residue, when refitted and...

I was lucky as paid scrappy a tenner after taking maf off myself, 2 minute job.
Ebay supplier is also kindly exchanging faulty maf I bought 8 months ago.
One thing I have learnt is that maf sensors should be cleaned with a spray,yearly best practice.
Pulls up hills now when before cogging down to second which is unacceptable for a 2lt engine...

05 C3 after replacement alternator

after a customer of mine had a replacement alternator fitted to her 05 1.4 8V C3

it has acquired a random misfire on all cylinders,

the fault code are
P0300
and
P1336

the first one i think is a ling standing code which no one seems to be able to get to the bottom of,

the second one on a gooogly search says it could be various items at fault,...

I have a rattle on the off side driving on roughish road surfaces at 40+.... but silent on a smooth surface. It was there before the last MOT in November which it sailed through. vibration in the gear

When I drive above 110 km per hr(more than 2200 rpm), the gear handle vibrates. The rest of the car is otherwise stable and smooth. is this normal?

I think that might be normal or perhaps something in the linkage transmitting vibration, I have noticed it on one or two cars.

slightly overfilled engine oil

I accidentally overfilled the engine oil on my Xantia 2.0 HDI.

The oil level is 2-3 milimetres above the max line on the dip stick. Are the levels very strict?

Will it be okay to keep it like this for the next 10000 kms when i will be going for the next oil change?

Our son's xsara DW8 1.9D estate decided to join our group of ill-functioning Xsaras by breaking its cambelt.

We popped the engine and box out, and the camshaft was broken in 2 places and one of the valves was stuck.

Our son started cutting the module off the back of the BOSCH pump - a much larger lump of metal than is on the LUCAS pump.

On the last bolt he damaged the casing on the top of the pump.

So we unbolted the whole top and found a top off a much older BOSCH in our garage.

We fitted that, plus an old simple solenoid from the same...

Xantia S2 ABS warnning light Problem Please read carefully

I apparently have an ABS Warnninglight on in my S2 xantia, That does not have ABS.
The engine has just had the head replaced, so the engine has been lean't forwarsd to do this a new cambelt, pulleys and camshaft pulley have been installed.

any ideas please?

The front pads are replaced usually twice a year and the wires are no longer connected
as they keep snapping.
The garage was sure it was the ABS light, considering that the dashboard came out in January for a new heater matrix
and the engine has just been rebuilt it is possible that somewherwe along the way because the car has not been used much...

Hi guys
This must be a fairly common problem, it's certainly happened to my Xantias as the milage creeps up. Usually stabbing the key well in and a bit of jiggling will work but it gets more difficult as time goes on. Plus gas, silicone grease, WD 40 all help a little bit but I think I have hit on the answer and I hope this might help anyone...
