Can I put a steel head gasket on C4 Petrol?

Post by c4tobe »

I have a C4 1.4 petrol (2004), with blown gasket. The original gasket was the composite (paper-like) gasket.
I am trying to buy a new gasket, but so far i can only find the Composite type gaskets (Glaser, Cortec, erling brands)

I am wondering if there exists a steel-type gasket for this engine (OEM number is 0209.FL)?
Since the original gasket was composite type, is it ok to replace it with steel type head gasket (in case I can even find it!)?

I have only used the laminated steel gaskets on diesels, if they make one for your car I don't see any reason why you shouldn't use it, they are certainly much tougher than the old ones. They use them as standard on the diesels now and they seem to last almost indefinitely.
