Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

When replacing P bushes is it a good idea to de pressurise the system ?,

Yes, otherwise it make a bit of a fun job of separating the hub from the wishbone at the swivels.

Be careful with the splitter tool you use on the swivels that you don't puncture the rubber boot.

As Sparksie says, alignment is critical. I keep a pair of old wishbones for...

Hi Mike,

It's the electrovalve on the RH inner wing by the strut top that is responsible for controlling the turbo wastegate. Will (KP) had the same problem with his.

It will not be responsible for any starting issues...

Has the immobiliser released OK (green light on keypad) and can you hear the fuel pump running?

Last post

Ahh :) You have a manually adjustable boost regulator there Mike. It bypasses the electrovalve and allows the engine to run a biot more boost and up the urge a bit.

Be careful that any disconnected pipes around the electrovalve are not leaking air into the inlet tract and upsetting the mixture.

02 Xsara - Driver's air bag, bolts or clips?

by RichardW » 27 Jun 2014, 10:20

Place your bets....

Got to change the COM2000 on my Sister's Xsara this weeknd. Unsure if the airbag is held on with bolts or clips. I'd rather bolts of course, as I gather getting the clips off is...

Last post

You can get a reasonable C5Hdi here for around £600.00 I think the main reason is the cost of repairs over here, unless you can do it yourself many repairs can cost more than that so people tend to replace the car if there is much wrong it and they are not technically minded.

Not a difficult job with the right tool. There is a chap on ebay that makes an excellent sphere remover, it clamps on with a bolt or two and doesn't slip so if the spheres are tight you can whack it with a hammer. Heaviness generally is a sign of wear. They are 'pull' clutches whereby the release bearing pulls on the diaphragm spring to release it rather than the more conventional push.

This reverse operation generally means the clutch gets heavier as it wears. New ones are lovely. Unbelievably feather-light!

by addo » 21 Jun 2014, 19:51

First post

I use a rubber-safe high temperature synthetic grease on sliding portions of brakes. Pretty sure you can also use Würth CU800 as it's made with a high temperature synthetic base also. Have seen some OEM assemblies with a PTFE grease on slider pins. It lasts well.

Last post

Unless you've actually got a seized piston its not worth doing it if it ain't broke like they say don't fix it.
the sliders will attract road debris, pad dust and grit if you lube them to much a squirt of Wd 40 will suffice to get them moving the sliders should be pretty shiny and polished under the rubber dust covers.
Don't skimp on price when...

Sill tin worm

Having succumbed to the infamous tin worm in the rear sill area :( .. the MOT tester was extremely thorough and must have used a crowbar or similar to poke holes in the sill  .. I'd like to ask the members who have had their sills repaired and have done it themselves if there's anything I should do before welding the new sill in place....

Last post

Personally I'd register over at the MOT testers forum and ask some questions relating to an MOT tester failing your car on the CV boots and you Not replacing them for a re-test and the fact that they passed on the re-test.
Looks very suspicious that, like the garage is trying it on a bit touting for work if you know I mean.
As I understand it they...

It's proposed alternatives to a part.

i think when it offers an alternative No.
this is a superseded No. to the old one,

thats if you mean when you have selected to go to basket and a box pops up with the original and superseded No.'s, and give you the option of which one to select

Valeo Standalone RF Locking Boxes

by addo » 14 Jun 2014, 12:38

First post

I'm referring specifically, to the Valeo ELE CIM491CT as used in Berlingos and maybe some D8 406s.

When you're programming in a key, what access code are you prompted for (or not at all)? They seem to have a unique five character (hex?) identifier below the barcode. The schematic doesn't really seem to interface with the engine immobiliser...

Last post

Good catch. Let us know how you get on plumbing it into the 405. The RF system only seemed to work when you got right up to the door, by which time might as well use the key.

The one on the top left of the engine mounting it to the drivers side. Hefty rubber bushing.

Totally perished and split. Can anyone cost one up for me? I imagine one has to buy the whole assembly and it's not cheap...

Last post

Its the same bush as the one fitted to the rear of the 1.9td... Drive it out and drive a new one in :)

A lot cheaper as well!

Sadly, different sizes Will :(

C5 2.2 EGR questions about blanking.

by waynedance » 28 Apr 2014, 12:44

First post

I blanked of my EGR valve the weekend as so many people recommend it, not got any faults just wanted to see if it made a difference.

Today after a trip reset I got more mpg (44.1), never managed this figure before.

Questions are is having the valve blanked long term going to cause faults or warning lights to come on?
Will the pipe eventually...

Last post

You sure that's not showing the miles you've done, rather than mpg? ... :D ... just kidding ... it would be great if it would keep that fuel economy performance ...

C5 aircon pulley won't engage

by aramsay » 19 Jun 2014, 22:13

Hello.

I have an '02 C5 2.2HDi Estate, and the aircon doesn't work, as the electro-clutch on the compressor pulley won't engage.

On my car, it is a normally on system, and to switch it off, you press the Eco button on the cabin heater panel.

I checked the voltage at the yellow connector at the compressor, and get 7.9v on the live pin, but that...

Cheers fella :)

Will give it a try soon when i next see the car :)

Xsara electric window failure

by smoker » 22 Jun 2014, 09:38

I had a cold drive home the other day after the elec window on my 02 110 hdi wouldn't go up. Just a horrible graunching noise and a couple of inches of movement following which it would just drop down again. Managed to force it closed in the end. Internet research suggests that the regulator has failed - a fairly common problem - although I...

My heater is being weird. I don't think it's the usual c5 problem of the box of tricks beside the clutch pedal. The drivers side won't change the heat setting it seems to be whatever the outside air temperature coming through whatever the temperature is set at, whilst the passenger side is working perfectly. It'ssuper cold here tonight and with...

I'll have to keep my eye out for this as well. It's the drivers side of mine that doesn't work, it doesn't bother me just now, but it will in winter ( due back here any day now lol)

Following from my queries on parts.
I'm wondering if anyone reasonably local is available to fit a strut top or future specialist related tasks? Phase1 Xantia D LX
I'm in Manchester, anyone close?

My regular mechanic might be able to do it, waiting to hear back, but its a weird science for most of them, and time is money right?
I'd have a go...

Thanks Paul. :)

Well I went to see malcolm and had an enjoyable afternoon watching experience at work. Did I say I had a water leak too hence AA flat bed truck? Well Malcolm swapped out the strut top and then fitted a new seal and plastic holder. fiddly but its in, so for a while my Xantia works again. Malcolm seemed happy it was a decent car...

Comfort Spheres

by xantiagreen » 21 Jun 2014, 19:12

First post

Would I be able to feel a huge difference with Comfort spheres fitted, theres a company online onclick= window.open(this.href);return false; (IFHS spheres) selling 4 for just under £100 non Hydractive. Should I just stick with the standard spheres?

Thanks..

Last post

I have never experienced significant pressure loss with stored spheres, they obviously will go down slowly but not nearly as fast as when they are having their pressure drastically increased under working conditions.

Xantia not sinking fully at the rear.

by MFHBlueberry » 22 Jun 2014, 19:12

First post

Hi guys! My first post, be gentle with me...

I have a basic 6 sphere xantia which runs like clockwork despite it having done 175000 miles. I replaced the suspension spheres 18 months ago and the front and rear accumulators last week.

My problem is this: when I set it to service low, the front goes down happily and the rear begins to but gets to...

Last post

The first problem sounds like either the rear height corrector linkage assembly is partially seizing despite the grease you've applied, (they can get very rusty to the point where no amount of in-place grease application will fully free them up) or the manual override linkage adjustment is out.

At the normal height position does the rear...

I've changed my mates Peugeot expert from air suspension to springs and the options to change were in two places, your c4 might have different options but one thing to change from air to standard springs was in the suspension ecu somewhere, ( I didn't write that one down) and in the bsi under vehicle config then driving assistance as well, you...

Citroen C5 Air Con Pump

by cowang » 21 Jun 2014, 18:41

First post

Hi all, I am looking for some advice with regards to an 08 model Citroen C5 air con system. The air con was not working so I took it to an independent garage to have it checked and re-gassed. On checking the system they told me that a pipe coming from the condenser had split and had to be replaced but this was aluminum and had welded itself to the...

Last post

The compressor should have been cut off by the high pressure switch long before any other part of the system let go , especially a new fitting. Even if the system had been overcharged. If a system has been open to atmosphere, ie a leak, then it is good practice to bleed some nitrogen through it before finally sealing it and pressure testing it....

Berlingo van running hot

My Berlingo van is running a bit hotter than usual, this is almost certainly because the fans are not coming on when they should.

I've done a bit of searching on here and seen the advice to disconnect the relays to test the fans but I'm not sure if I'm trying the correct things.

The pic below is what I think may be the relays and may be on top...

I found this via Google - I'm having some issues with my 54 plate 1.9D Berlingo getting hot on the motorway at speeds over 70 or if there is a hill.

Around town and bimbling at 60mph, it is fine and sits at just under 90 C.

Are the fans supposed to run at motorway speeds? I'd assumed not but having read this thread I'm doubting myself.

Any...
