C5 2.2 EGR questions about blanking.

I blanked of my EGR valve the weekend as so many people recommend it, not got any faults just wanted to see if it made a difference.

Today after a trip reset I got more mpg (44.1), never managed this figure before.

Questions are is having the valve blanked long term going to cause faults or warning lights to come on?
Will the pipe eventually block up completely and block the egr valve?

I ran mine for approx 6 months with a blanking plate in with no fault lights/codes showing. When i did take a look at the supply pipe to the EGR it was pretty badly gummed up with carbon. I cleaned it out with a can of EGR cleaner and put the blanking plate into my wallet where it still sits to this day! I never found any difference in economy at all with it fitted.

I think I will leave it blanked for a while and see what happens, just did not want to cause any faults.

Only been a few days but mpg still creeping up. Been doing the same run to work for years and never seen mpg like this.

Hope it will keep rising a little more, also fitted a correct blanking plate from ebay.

I can honestly say the engine runs smoother, hesitation gone and seems to roll better when taking foot of pedal at speed (does not slow down as quick) if tha makes sense!!!

Would like to see 60 mpg but not going to happen on my daily drive on mainly b roads.

Must admit i drove like a fairy to achieve that figure.

46.2mpg today and counting...................dam good, who says the mk1 2.2HDi ain't good on fuel

Mainly b roads with a few miles on dual carriageway.

You sure that's not showing the miles you've done, rather than mpg? ... ... just kidding ... it would be great if it would keep that fuel economy performance ...
