They are part of the anti roll system and link the suspension strut to the anti roll bar, which transfers suspension forces between axles, thus reducing the roll on cornering. On the Activa models the drop links were replaced with an active anti roll hydraulic ram, thus eliminating roll almost completely.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

One each side (at the front); basically a rod about 15" long with a ball joint at each end. One ball joint stud goes through the hole in the end of the roll bar, the other goes through a bracket on the strut.

Two different designs - the difference is in the alignment of the ball-ends; the two types aren't interchangeable.

Two different qualities - the cheap ones don't last nearly as long as the more expensive ones made by Lemforder (said to be the same as the Citroen original ones).
2012 Subaru Forester - capable but no magic carpet
2011 Grand C4 Picasso VTR+ 1.6HDi - not missed!
1995 Xantia Estate SX 1.9TD in Vert Vega "The Green Lady" - sadly missed
1998 Xantia 2.1 VXD Estate in Mauritius Blue - R.I.P. (terminal tin-worm)
