xantia hdi 110 lx clutch adjustment

Post by dodge »

having read your replies to "xantia clutch replacement" perhaps I should get garage to adjust clutch cable to get maximum contact of plates, before getting new clutch.
Is this relatively easy to do ?
Too stiff and old to see underneath car, which also sits on a 1in5 driveway ! !

The 110 HDi has a hydraulic clutch unfortunately.
One of the common snagging points in replacing these clutches is that the system is sealed for life with no fill or bleed points so if you accidentally disturb the seal on the slave cylinder (often caused by heavy-handedness apparently) it can be difficult to put right again.

Thanks for your info, guess I will need to suck up to my local mechanic, who is good but rather grumpy, but does have a sense of humour sometimes !
He could have disturbed the slave cylinder when doing a service last month.
Thanks

Heaviness generally is a sign of wear. They are 'pull' clutches whereby the release bearing pulls on the diaphragm spring to release it rather than the more conventional push.

This reverse operation generally means the clutch gets heavier as it wears. New ones are lovely. Unbelievably feather-light!
