Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Have just been greeted with left front brake merrily smoking away while driving!

Have pulled wheel off, wound piston back in and made sure that is nice and free to move.

The Handbrake lever on the caliper however, is very stiff and requires a ring spanner on it to return to the released position, Right side is nice and smooth.

Hi all. Yesterday my hand brake failed the mot ..
I always felt the handbrake was spot on .. so went home and jacked both wheels and tried to turn with over a meter of extension tube..nothing moving..
I went to a local garage and sure enough one side was perfect and the other was intermittent? Some times it passed sometimes it didn't...

Thanks for the info John, did have a look at the pads before and there still is plenty of meat on them, so that ruled out worn pads. Will tell the tester to stop the engine before testing the hand brake.
Don't worry about the ramble I often do it especially after some of that grape juice.

I got Risk of particle filter clogging warning message on the dashboard yesterday.

As I understand there is a chance that the DPF/FAP filter is blocked and needs either replacing or regenerating.

This morning I tried going in 3rd gear at 3500 RPM whilst on my way to work (about 10-15 mins, should I do a longer run? higher revs?) but it didn't...

So like an idiot i've just managed to reverse into a post in the xantia. It was a weird one as its on the pavement and in an n shape so has hit the tailgate above the number plate. Thought I had just scuffed it until i looked under the plate and its cracked. Is it worth getting some filler and fixing or is it a new boot job? :cry:

What windows version do I need on my laptop to run the Lexia system. I have at present Windows 10 . I have had my C5 X7 for three years now and think it is time I started to find out what can and cannot be activated. Hi James, that is true, and what I advise people, however there have been several new builds of Windows 10 since its release. Earlier builds had strictly enforced driver requirements which affected lots of hardware. In other words early builds of Windows 10 wouldn't allow third party drivers to install, which of course affected the USB Evolution...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has experience of fitting LED
bulbs to the rear of their Xantia and know the right sizes to buy please?
I gather they all come in different depths shapes and sizes and
it might be some time before I arrive at the right ones with several trips

I'm looking for a little help with a moderate leak from the hydraulic unit housing cover on my AM6 gearbox. It's just the gasket and it looks easy enough to remove and redo the gasket but I'm not sure about the fluid.

The service docs say AM6 gearboxes on Euro 4 engines have JWS 3309 fluid and Euro 5 engines AW-1. My car is a 2009 so I'm assuming...

Hi All,

My car has recently started to judder when a set off in 1st gear and occasionally in 2nd gear. The car has driven 43,000 miles. Is this a sign that the clutch has gone or could it be something more sinister?

Before even getting the dye test, look carefully around and under the condenser and the pipes near it for oil stains. A/C leaks always discharge a little refrigerant oil, and provided there isn't too much other oil flying around your engine bay, it should be easy to spot.

I had my tyre change and rotated last weekend and since then the near side rear wheel is lost from time to time by the monitoring system.

The unit on my car is the RT4, so I think I can burn CDs to hard drive. Nonetheless, I'm old fashioned, so may try to get a multichanger as well. I too have a 2005 Exclusive C5 with cd multichanger under drivers seat but I'm sure it's not the same unit.

I plan to do an oil change and replace cartridge inside filter housing (as per this article but on C8 not 807) now i am thinking of hand tightening the plastic filter housing top as somewhat weary of using torque wrench on it as no idea of the values to tighten it to, also anyone know the sump plug torque setting for C8/807

Hi everyone, new here. I have a Xsara Picasso 1.6 hdi 110hp 2008, and it has been getting worse. It started coming up Check Diesel Filter which I took as the FAP blocked, so used dpf cleaning solution in fuel tank to try and unblock. This seemed to work for a couple of weeks, then it would come up engine fault and stop with a lot of white smoke...

does the smoke have a strong smell of diesel as if does you would notice which would indicate its running rich have you plugged it in you need codes or at least a description of faults logged in the ecu as this points to what may be the issue.you may have a leaking or incorrect spray pattern causing too much diesel to be injected into the engine....

I'm stuck at the last hurdle in fixing a tow bar for my C5 x7 Tourer. Tow bar itself is installed, and the wiring to the relay from the tow bar socket and lights done. All I have to do now is get a permanent 12v supply - fused - from the battery or the under dash fuse box to the relay. Tried to get a lead to the battery, but no way through the...

The large rectangular plastic plugs that fit at the rear of the n/s rear wheel arch are missing on both my Xants. I cannot locate them on Doc Backup; many others but not these - they appear not to exist! I thought I had seen a post on here a while ago regarding them but cannot find it.

After getting nice weather for my 51st I should have been grateful and just stayed home
but no I had to go running errands for other people.

I checked which deeside it was also. Had it been Aberdeenshire then I would be bidding.

You could make a detour on your way back from Jim's up the M6 and down to Deeside Davie, I don't think it would add much on to your journey.

Hi,
When I drive XM it seems to me that the car goes very well, strength is satisfactory. But when I get on the uphill car lost power and as much hard I push gas pedal car does not accelerate. When I get to the top of the climb because I pressed the accelerator almost to the end, the car gets full power and rapidly accelerate.
Any suggestions...

There's no in-tank pump, but the tank suction pipe can get grot around its lower end. Vague recollection about the suction pipe being very close to the 'polythene' tank bottom, and able to suck it up and restrict the supply. Not a common fault, and not sure whether it applies to the 2.5.

Hello

I have a Citroen Nemo Multispace and recently have noticed a clicking noise from the nearside front wheel when you pull away.

This is a single click that happens when you move forward, or change direction to reverse, you do not get clicking when it goes around a corner.

My guess is that there is some play or wear in one of the drive shaft...

My C5 has a mesh lower grill rather than the plastic ones and I can see holes ready cut for fog/spotlights.
I assume the wiring is also in place as it was for my upgraded electric leather seats. Anybody got the spots and how difficult to fit. :)

According to the Haynes BOL, the facelift had fog lights fitted as there is a section on changing bulbs which tells how to change them. It appears I have a facelift front valance. Closer inspection shows some overspray which suggests possible damage repair with a facelift part. Is this possible?

I got used top strut , how can I know its Citroen part number ? Are there any external signs that links the strut top to its Citroen part number ?

Is there any major difference between the various strut tops but the threading standard ?

I have the part number for may cat. I just look for information regarding the different strut top , and if I can link between the used strut I got and their part number. Some numbers/letter are coined on each of them but I didn't find a way to link it to their part number

In putting back on a front wheel (alloy) on my 2009 X7 I noticed that the locking key and bolt were damaged. (Not me, honest!). A previous owner had allowed the tool to slip, thus (a) shearing off one of the 'pegs' in the tool and (b) shearing off some of the metal on the bolt itself.

Hi all i just changed my fuel filter on 1.6 hdi berlingo and found there is no water in oil detector screwed in at the bottom of filter next to the blank sensor socket. so i have fitted the new filter without it and all is fine but is this a problem? should i get one and fit it asap?

They dont have one the plug just plugs into a blank. Some 1.6hdi's do such as in the Despatch then you just screw the old sensor in and it breaks out the plastic blank!

Afternoon.

Here's the tale of my woes......

3 weeks ago my van suffered power loss whilst doing 20ish mph through a village. Was fine until I went through some speed restrictions. Gave it a little bit of throttle and it bogged, just wouldn't pick up. Pulled over and tried to nurse the revs up. It got as far as 3000rpm but wouldn't go any...

I think i have identical problems though! Mine is still at the garage, but they are replacing my camshaft and cam chain (that was my rattle noise) already replaced my HP pump, and re-conned injectors.

Hope your van runs well, if you have any probs i'd guess injector nozzles could have metal swarf stuck in them and need a clean,...

Hi All,

My 1997 Series 1 Xantia V6 has a passenger airbag however there is no key switch in the centre console to disable it, and a warning sticker near the door not to use car seats in the passenger seat.

Now that we have a two month old it occurs to me that while his car seat currently always goes in the rear on the left hand side, there might...

Sounds like its a no go, especially if the switch was only ever fitted in the Series 2, in the location where the Hydractive switch is on a Series 1... it was more of a thought experiment really but in hindsight I realise that fiddling around with the wiring for the airbag isn't the cleverest thing in the world!

Got the car back from the shop - Their injector cleaning machine did the job.. and they fixed some more stuff and took it though MOT, that it passed with colours.

But i'll drive it differen than before, and run a bottle of inj. cleaner though it one and a while, so it won't clogg up again.

I have a 2002 2.2 hdi which had a non functioning speedometer, odometer, abs and esp. Lexia could not communicate with the ABS module and I was advised to swop it, which I've done with another with the same numbers. I've just taken it for a spin and no change. I don't know whether they checked the live supplies or earth's, I pulled every fuse prior, in glovebox, under bonnet including maxi's - i wouldn't know how to check further other than a multimeter on the abs connector lead? But as you have to remove bsi and fusebox under bonnet i dont know how / have the expertise to do this, can you clarify?...

I have a squeaky air con compressor. As air con in Scotland is about as useful as the SNP, I plan to remove the compressor.
I have ordered a belt as recommended by member. A new Dayco crank damper pulley too, as old one doesn't look great on running.

Anyone see any problems with this as a permanent running set up? I suppose logic will...

My 1995 TD has had a couple of patches to the sills over the past couple of years which have been 'dressed'.. i use the term loosely ... with a slap of underseal which is now looking not so good. I've used Upol Gravitex in the past. It's supposed to be sprayed it on with a schultz gun and if you've got access to a compressor then that's the best way to do it.
If you haven't got a compressor you can get away with brushing it on then sort of dimpling it with the end of the brush.
Then when it's gone off you can top coat straight over it.

Ay up!

While clearing out I discovered an engine ECU and BSI that came with the replacement locks for Otterchops. I fitted the door locks and locking fuel cap and then forgot about these.

They are for a 2.0 HDi 8v 110 HP diesel.

Can I simply fit these with the matching ignition barrel as is or will I need to code them to the car? Be nice to...

You can order blanks, your choice. Mine were not and the car was not needed. The main dealer used the confidential card and their systems to order the fob / key and these took 2 weeks to be coded and cut. When they arrived they worked immediately on receipt as we too k the other car to pick them up.

It varies a bit by car and engine, but after it's done a global scan you should find a diesel additive ECU, and if you go into here and then standard parameters it should give a remaining figure. The amount remaining may also be in the injection ECU, but the figures are not very likely to agree in my experience! Generally lasts 80-100k - my 307...

Getting my 136nhp C5 06 diesels oil and filters changed. The garage just asked me when Kbooked it in, if K would lile to have my engine flushed. I THINK IT IS forte. I just said yes, but I wondered immediately I put the phone downn if I needed this. I also seem to remeber some post saying it could do more harm than good. So should I get it done or...

I've always flushed out with diesel. Chuck a small cupful in as it warms up, drop the oil and then flush out until clear.
Every six months for the past eight years on my old Xantia - oil doesn't start to darken until five months in. :-D
Same here. I became a fan of this after chucking a litre of diesel in the oil of a 4 litre HO Jeep Cherokee...

I'm after changing the interior bulbs to LED the side pillars, ones above the doors/glove box/boot and footwell lights, keep getting different search results of different sizes and design for each area. Don't trust the bulb checking sites as they seem to place the xantia in 3 categories of year 93-97/97-99/99-01 is that right.
