Xantia MK2 Keys

Post by aneesh84 »

Hi,
For all those who have been following the forums, I had asked for advise on buying different cars, C5s, 406, Xantia, Laguna etc.

After all the advise I got from this forum, I recently bought a 1999 HDI Xantia 180k kms done for 2600 euros here in portugal. I was actually thinking of a C5 but a car in comparable condition was almost 2000 euros more so I finally settled for the Xantia HDI Estate. I am actually very happy with this car. It rides very well.

However I have a problem, I was given 2 keys but I think both dont have the RFID chip for the immobilizer. The one with the remote switch has all the inner electronics missing.

Both keys start the car but the immobiliser shows a blinking key light in the dashboard and a beeping sound for about 20 seconds. I have a feeling that somehow the immobiliser unit has been disconnected from the injection pump. So I have 2 questions:

1. How can i eliminate the annoying sound for 20 seconds each time i start the car? I was imaging the easiest was would be to find the speaker and simply remove it.

2. How can I get a spare remote that I can get to work with the car. Can I order a spare remote key on ebay? Do I need lexia to program it? Now that my immobiliser has already been bypassed I dont need to worry about the immobiliser, just want the remote to work.

What ever you decide to do with the keys you will need a lexia to program or sort it out. With that in mind dont bother with another key and just get the lexia to reteach the exsisting keys back to the car.. for this though you will also need the cars secure key code card with the four digit code on it behind a scratch panel..

If you remove the instrument pod (speedo/rev counter) the speaker is mounted on there. You can also remove the bulb from the immobilser warning to eliminate to flashing..

Xantia has two keys and only one of them has the remote control / immobilizer chip with a battery in it.
Second key is only for opening and closing the doors.
----- Edit -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I learned something new. As mentioned below second key starts the car.
I have never tested that with my Xantia.
Today I had the chance to test it with my C5 II and it started the car normally.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you change the battery in the key? It was type CR 1620 3V (if I remember right).
Weak car battery can also cause beeps during ignition. Does the key sign stay in the dashboard?

Second key with chip from ebay is fine but it must be coded. I don't know about the prices in Portugal but where I live it costs around 100 EUR in the dealer.

The circuit board and battery for the RF remote has nothing to do with the immobiliser system - even if the battery is flat or the entire board is missing it will still start the car and deactivate the immobiliser, because the immobiliser uses a small passive RFID chip which is moulded into the piece of plastic which turns with the key blade.

On a non-remote key the RFID chip for the immobiliser is behind the tiny rectangle next to the key blade, but prising it out without damaging it is nearly impossible.

As citroenxm says it probably just needs both the keys programming to the car with a Lexia to stop the immobiliser complaining. Both keys will definitely have immobiliser RFID chips in them if they're genuine keys.

For the RF remote key missing its circuit board you should be able to buy one and swap the circuit board into your key and then use the Lexia to program it to the car. Any Xantia Series 2 remote RF fob should be suitable.

To do any key programming you need to have or obtain the 4 character security code for the car. If it has been lost there are places online that you can pay a small fee to to obtain your code. (I had to do this for my car as the card was long lost)

This is simply not correct. All the keys supplied with a S2 Xantia have an immobiliser RFID chip moulded into them - even the straight key with no remote, and all will start the car. If your standard non-remote key doesn't start your car it means it's not programmed correctly to the car or its not a genuine Citroen supplied key !

Okay so I have both those original keys, but the one with the remote has its electronic board missing.

Both start the car, but with the car beeping for 30 seconds and showing the key symbol blinking and the sound. So can i conclude that either the immobiliser system has some antenna or other problem and is not detecting the keys' immobiliser chip?

Since the car starts normally, that does mean that the immobiliser system has somehow been bypassed.

So now I should order a new key, and program it using lexia. So maybe its better to buy the lexia. Can you suggest me a good ebay vendor to buy from.

Also can you suggest where I can buy the 4 digit car code.

Also is the speaker used to warn other things like overheating, etc. or it is just used by the immobiliser?

Its only used for the immboliser and Key in ignition when door open. I think the Lights on uses a different sounder!!

Dont need new keys, just get your exsisting ones programed to the car. NO NEED to but new keys.

A replacment curcuit board for the inside of the key also needs the lexia to re programm

I dont know anyone with a lexia in portugal. Which sort of lexia 3 i can buy that works with 1999 hdi xantia? will this do?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Diagnostic-To ... 2a30d67d1e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Does this have the connectors for immobiliser. Where do i exactly plug it in to program a new remote?

A cheaper option could be to buy one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hot-Vehicle-C ... 3f28b425de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If the correct pins that actuate the motor in the door are powered, it could be a good solution! any ideas where i could tap those wires?

I just wanted to inform that "second key" started engine normally in my C5 II. In Xantia it would have worked also but I have never tried. Thanks, I learned something new. :)

Re: Xantia MK2 Keys

After a lot of "investigation", I finally managed to fit one of these cheap remote kits on my xantia 1999 hdi.

So posting here for all those who have lost their keys or codes, broken their remote locking unit and dont want to pay to the stealer.

I got one of these off ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hot-Vehicle-C ... 3f28b425de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you open the driver side door, there are 5 wires entering the lock:

2 wires have alternate trigerring of +ve and -ve to lock/unlock door and comes form body computer
1 is to send actual lock position to body computer
1 is the ground

and 1 (that we need) is the signal to the body computer to lock or unlock. This wire was a light green colour. When you connect -ve to this wire it sends signal to lock. Even after you remove the -ve, it holds on to the lock position, unless you actually cut this wire.

So i traced this wire running near the fuse box. I cut it there and made a circuit there putting the remote controller there performing teh same function described above. If anyone is interested or wants to know more about circuit logics, feel free to ask.

I'll read through some other threads to see if the answer is there too but some of you will remember the clutch saga with the X2 Xantia.

Car has been sitting at my mates for 18 months near on now. Rear footwells flooded with water and it really is looking a sorry state.

Anyway, took battery off X1 and tried to start it. No joy whatsoever. Yellow box with key is flashing on the dash.

Mate says it needs reprogramming. I do have a Lexia but cannot find the laptop the software is on...

But he has an OBDStar X300 so we should be able to use that.

Just one question. Logging into service citroen there is a 4 digit code to the side of the letters OPB under Characteristics. Will this be the 4 digit code (it contains letters and numbers) that is required to program the key does anyone know per chance?

It shouldn't need reprogramming. Remove plastic trim from wheel and reseat the connector from pickup coil, or try with a new one.
