Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Some engines around the R and S reg age have been known to throw a conrod out of the block. Do a search on this and honestjohn for conrod, and you'll find the theory that it's oil related.
Other than that, check the service history, coolant level / condition, and usual checks.

205 wheel arches

Well, I degreased the arches using engine degreaser and applied some clear waxoyl. After leaving it overnight I came down to find the waxoyl was still unset and it looked a bit silly. i dont know if this is a common problem but the clutch on my xsi is rather stiff when the car has been driven for a while or stuck in traffic (i presume this is down to the fact that the clutch cable passes close to somewhere hot??), and it seems to creek a fair amount too!

Towing capacities 406 mk1

by JohnD » 23 May 2004, 13:50

First post

Any of the diesel 406's make good tow vehicles. The 1.9TD has a kerb weight of 1389Kgs and the 2.1TD has 1202Kgs. Estate versions are around 50Kgs more. If you stay within the advised weight ratio of 85%, that means that with the 1.9 you could tow a fully loaded weight of 1180Kgs, and with the 2.1, a weight of 1202Kgs. My 2.1 Xantia tows a 1220Kgs...

Further to my other posts (Dodgy Wipers..) I have a problem with my front wipers - intermittent speed, double speed do not work, and the wipers do not self park , i.e. they stop when you move the switch.
It a phase 2 306 XSi without the rain sensor gubbins!
I think the double speed not working is due to a break in the wire that activates the...

306 Cambelt

by P 2501 » 20 May 2004, 17:54

First post

No,not normally. Cambelt change generally means just that - the cambelt only. Quite alot of work to change the tensioner too but if yours is on the way out don't mess about, get it changed. Ask him to check the waterpump and idler pulley while he's in there too.

Last post

Hi all,
Sent my car to the dealer for a cambelt change & they want to charge me £65 + vat for a new tensioner & bearing ( as existing tensioner bearing is breaking up).
Thing is - I thought the tensioner was changed as part of the cam belt change (and hence in the quoted price) - is this the case?

electric window

by bad driver » 20 May 2004, 14:57

First post

Try putting a direct 12v feed to the motor and see ifit moves. The window mechanism has a load sensor in it and when there is too much pressure required for movement a sloenoid clicks and cuts power to the motor. Try pushing down on the window whilst the button is pressed, it may just be jammed. If that doesnt work or a direct 12v feed then its...

205 diesel knocking

Hi
Is the intermediate bearing on the o/s driveshaft lose in the engine mounts housing?
I had the bearing spinning in the mounts housing on my 405 because the mount was worn out.
It sounded like it needed a new gearbox, broken bearing sound, but we traced the fault to the engine mount & the driveshafts bearing spinning in the housing.
It made a...

Engine sounds fine but when quite rapid acceleration is required, usually most noticable in 2nd gear, theres knocking only on acceleration.
Local garage THINKS it may be driveshaft and advised packing N/S shaft rubber with grease. However when clip was removed it was fully packed.
Intermediate ? bearing on O/S also had WD40 squirted in.
Gearbox...

The only difference in price is main dealer labour charge.
How old is the car?
Have you checked the fuse/fuses?
Do you feel a slight jurk when driving and switching on a/c?
Is there a slight drop in engine revs when turning a/c on?
When was the last time it worked?

Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone could give me the lowdown on 306 models with Air conditioning.
Mine doesn't work, and with summer coming along thought I'd get it sorted!
Asked the dealer and they said £120 for a check and re-gas. I phoned around and got a quote for £65 for the same job. Looking in the manual just states this is a specialist job...

Hi Stuart
All is not lost when a caliper bleed screw shears - there is a safe 'work around' which will keep you rolling - and stopping!!
If you want to know how let me know

If you've still got them, how much did you want for them
I think I could do with them.

Squeaky rear

by silverline » 27 May 2004, 16:37

you may find that it could be needle bearings in the torsion bar cross tube (this is where the trailing arm and wheel pivot when the suspension is compressed) they can go dry and wear and cause squeaking noises. when it rains moisture can get past the seals to the bearings and act as a lubricant. I ve got a 205 gti which had the same problem. its...

HI,
I have a 106 XND (1994). I am experiencing squeaks from the rear wheel area. When the car is stationary and depressed both sides squeak. I have also noticed that squeaks stop for about 3 or 4 days after it has rained.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Random smokey 205 engine??

This sounds like you have a sludged up emissions vent system and the seperator valve is clogged up. Remove the vent pipe from the Cam cover and the associated diagram valve and remove and clean all the pipes with white spirit. Remove the vacuum pipe and make sure it is clean. You will nedd to shake the valve a lot to get all the sludge out....
