205 knocking noise when cornering

Post by hustler »

Hi all,
My 205 j reg, 1000cc makes noise when cornering (maily Right-hand corners) and a continual grinding type sound. It appears to be getting worse and the wife has started to moan a lot. the recent MOT said that it was the wheel bearing, but after changing this (TWICE!), I have ruled it out. I have heard the 205 has a tendancy to get through driveshafts, do you think this may be the problem?
Cheers for the help,
Tristan

I had a Saab 900 that moaned on left handers (so I changed the RH bearing). Turned out it was the LH bearing after all! Maybe worth checking the one that wasn't changed before swapping drive shafts.

Jack up each front wheel and holding the driveshaft, turn the wheel backwards and forwards. A worn joint can sometimes be heard clicking.

Sounds like the CV joint to me. You have to replace the drive shaft to fix it as the joints are integral to the shaft.

I have the same problem with my 205 k reg 1800 diesel. Both drive shafts have been changed but the problem is still there. Been told it could be the Diff bearing.

Same problem. MOT man thought it was Wheel Bearing. Pug specialist changed the Track Rod End. Problem fixed almost. Although it seems the vibration in this has caused the Steering rack to play a bit. But It's not so much that you can't ignore it.

Mine does this too, when turning at high speed. I thought its just cos I'm fat! A mate thought it was a knackered suspension spring?
