405 MI16 TURBO

Post by 405drivermi16 »

Does anyone know if it is possible to put a 505 Turbocharger into a 405? Do any of the manifolds match up?
If so, how the hell do I come about doing this????
Thanks

theres more to it than bolting the turbo on, firstly you need to lower the compression ratio, you will also need an uprated head gasket. There is also a fuel issue needs to be looked at as you need a way to give additional fuel to match the extra air. Try speaking to eccosse oin scotland. they do these kinds of things every day of the week. They will advise on whats needed, costs and work involved.

Good idea, i'll give it a try.
I live in america, and peugeots arent exactly dime-a-dozen cars, i would like a turbo-chargered 405, but if it means giving up my 405... then i'll just forget about it.
I wonder if a 405 GRD or T16 manifolds would fit up to an MI16??
thanks

Mate, try visiting www.peugeot-gti.net, register and try asking some questions on there. Thereare lots of Mi's on there and if it can be turbo'd they will know how, they should also be able to tell you what manifolds and stuff will fit.

Why couldn't us americans have appreciated what we had(Peugeots)??
I can only imagine how easier it would be to find parts.
Thanks

hi. i read some where that the T16 was only available in france but people like peugeot eccose in scotland might be able to get 1 for you or at least point you in the direction of where 1 is available.

I'll give it a go.
The 309 has a similar looking engine, i need to check the dimensions though, doubt it will work... would be cool though.
thanks

You will need to have an exhaust manifold fabricated for you. As far as i am aware there is no quick "bolt on" option for the XU10 head. As Bad Driver said you will need to lower the compression ratio if you are going to run more than about 0.4bar of boost. You wont need to uprate the head gasket. The Mi16 exhaust manifold is an 8-4-1 design and the 309 is a 4-2-1 manifold as its an 8v engine for starters. The T16 was available in more countries than just France as it was available in some Nordic countries. The T16 is also a completely different design as this was a 1778cc engine and not the 1905cc engine that you probably have (unless its the 2.0 cast block). Incidentally Peugeot Ecosse are not the greatest people in the world for doing conversions they just get a lot of press coverage. If you want more power from your Mi16, then get a Big Valve ported head put on it and you will be seeing around the 180bhp mark, provided yours was the 160bhp engine to start with. If it isnt then you will need to get a set of cams from a 160bhp version to make up the power difference, but just changing the cams isnt going to get you a massive power increase. You will also need to find out if the 505 turbo has a standard mounting flange as if its anything like the Citroen XM Turbo then whoever fabricates your exhaust manifold will need to make up an appropriate mounting plate
