Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Our R reg 106 1600 petrol wont start it has the sparks and if I take a live feed direct to the pump under the seat it runs no problem I wonder if the car has an inertia switch which may be faulty does anyone know where it is or what it looks like... otherwise I will wire the pump direct to the ignition switch .. Hello All, I have a broken 406 1.9 TD and so have acquired a Xantia 1.9TD.
Both induction manifolds are caked in a heavy oily deposit - nearly half a centimetre thick. I am puzzled! does anyone know if this is normal or is it an indication of a fault? Exhaust gas recirculation? engine damage? I don't understand it because there must be a whole...

It's been some time, as my own Xsara has been performing brilliantly for quite some time now, so no need to post about that. Saying that I have probably jinxed myself now!

Anywho, I have undertaken a job of repairing a none driving 306, due to a suspected gearbox fault.

It is a bit puzzling, as at first i thought it could be the inner CV...

I have a 98 306 d turbo, cracking car, but i have to leave the ignition on for about 20-30 seconds after the glow plug light goes out, then the car starts! i have replaced all the glow plugs. If i dont do this it just turns over and over, then threatens to flatten the battery!
Am getting a bit miffed by this! Please help!!!

My new 405 16v has a very heavy clutch, much much heavier feel than my 8v BX tri,

is this the case? does the 16v have some heavy duty clutch or could the cable be dragging or the release lever?

My 405 (Phase 2 Hunter 1.9TD estate, 1993 model, with aircon, although this no longer works due to a leak somewhere in the system) has a heating system with a mind of it's own - basically, with the temperature slider at the coldest setting, every so often the vents will decide to blow hot air for an indeterminate period. This seems to be worst...

The temp control cable has a couple of clamps/clips holding it in place behind the controls. Possibly one of these has come loose or broken away? That might explain the lack of resistance in slider.

I would imagine the power steering is electric driven, and the clutch is the normal hydraulic set up. Neither system is connected in anyway so I would take it back to the dealer.

I just got a 405 16v and the cam belt has been on for about 85000km, so i have plans to replace it.

I have done a few 8v BX 1.9 petrol belts - no real difficulty so far. But on reading the Haynes manual for the BX ( i assume the BX and Peugeot 405 16v engines are the same) it talks about the extra complication of the tensioners not only...

Peugeot 307 2004 1.4 HDi....the interior light can be switched on manually but will not operate when any door is opened.
The 'door open' dashboard display operates normally for all doors when one is opened indicating ( to me!) that the door switches, wherever they may be, are functioning ok.
So..if the bulb is ok and door switches are ok what else...

Recently had some spectacular bad luck with my 406 and to cut a long story short, a piece of metal has managed get into the induction manifold and have fun and larks with the piston, valves and head!

try a 34mm then, i have never seen a 306 with a 36mm rear hub nut, front PSA hub nuts are quite often 36mm

Can anyone tell me where to find the transponder aerial in the pug 106 and what it looks like?

Well, further to my previous post asking for advice I got my sister a 1999 T plate Phase 1 2ltr 110 HDI GLX for £500! :D
182k miles but drives like a car with 50k on it.

One issue it has.

Headlights.

There is a wire running across the rads feeding the headlights with a live feed from left to right or right to left.
My mates 99 2 ltr HDI...

I know I asked the question a few weeks ago - but can someone suggest locations for the paint code on my 96 405 GLX in light silver.

Ihave checked the suspension strut and the label on the door with the tyre pressures - this has a little number XJ00 - but this dosnt seem to relate to a paint code...

is there any text embedded in the VIN number...

Ive just been told at the garage that the citroen synergie has the same engine as one of the peugeot's and you need to use a special oil cause if you dont it was make the car play up .

If this is true does anyone know what oil it is?

I guess it depends on its age, and wether it is a 20,000 mile service interval. This basically means if it is a 20k service you should use a synthetic oil such as Castrol Edge 0-30w. If its not a good 10/40 or 10/50 would be fine.

I'm just wondering would the 309's early 1294cc Talbot engine accept all the Simca Rallye parts pushing it up to 100hp. I don't know if there were any casting mods in the 309 days. My Rancho's 1442cc version engine isn't good, and seeing as there are quite a few cheap 309s around would this be a good swop.

I kind of forgot about this posting, but actually your confusing the XY series engines from the 104/205/Visa/Samba which had gears in the sump.

Simca 1000, 1100, Rancho, Horizon, Alpine, Solara all had 4cy line with bolt on gearbox, which in 1294cc ended up in the 309 until about 1990. In Spain they used them in early 205s... apparently,...

The second time I couldn't believe it, but I did notice by the side of the motorway a massive mobile phone mast with about 30 transmitters on it. I would expect this pipe to expand if the turbo is working correctly. If you think there is a blockage in the exhaust you could easily rule this out by removing it & see if it revs up. Are you sure you got the pipes on the exhaust differential pressure sensor the right way around ?

I have a 407 and a warning has come on saying 'Particle filter additive level too low'. Is this something that needs sorted at the dealer or can I top it up myself? Also, am I damaging anything by not getting it topped up. I am due a cambelt soon and thought I would wait and get them both done together.

It's your Eolys fluid which needs attention!

There is some info from Peugeot on the subject which can be seen at this link.

This level correction is normally a dealer job, which requires it to go on the Peugeot diagnostic system for the system to be reset.

Afternoon all,

Has anyone here ever taken the airbag steering wheel off of a Peugeot 406? I have a 1998 series 1 406 and would like to change the wheel for a 405/605 non-airbag one, firstly due to my distrust of old airbags and secondly as it's not very pleasant to hold. Was wondering if the spindle was the same size.

Bit like the 405 hub post on here, is there another pug that uses this hub as the wheel bearing has compleatly colapesed !

Hi Mark,

It's a bit of a distant memory now as it's a while since I've been into a 205 but I believe the hubs on your DTurbo are the same as the 205GTi 1.6 but not the same as on an N/A 205 D or any of the little petrols.. I seem to recall a significant difference.

I reckon, but don't take it as gospel, but 309 hubs may be the same.

A simple question, as I am a simpleton.

I set out to service my son's 306 1.9 Turbo Diesel.

Discovered that I hadn't a socket or spanner to fit the sump drain plug. Postpone that then!

Oil filter is only hand tight, no problems ther then.

Air filter, when I found it :( was the wrong one, postpone that!

Diesel filter then.

But where is it?...

I looked at the item described then thought - Nah! it can't be, tooooooooo complicated by half. The Xantia one was dead simple and looked like what it was supposed to be.

I saw a hex (allen) key fitting on the sump plug but tracking down the right key could take days. I know I don't have a 21mm spanner or socket though so I won't...

slight hic up today with the 405 wifey reversing out of freinds drive and passenger side ball joint decieded to make a run for it :( i managed to get it all back together to move the car but it would seem i need a new hub carrier so does anyone have one or is there any other car across the range that would fit ? i have rung 8 scrapies and...

I would type Peugeot 405 breaking into Ebay.

Then sort by distance and youll find one nearest you, there are normally 5 or so being broken around the country.

Hi everyone,

I sold my 406 1.9dt but the wife still has her 406 HDI SE.

However!
My sister just had her Rover written off (218D) in a non fault accident and I've told her to go for a 406 diesel. Problem is, she's only got £600 to play with and down here (Dover area) they seem to be like hens teeth now. Maybe the scrappage scheme is taking over!...

Having heard horror stories of 406's, and owning one at the moment, i really have to say, just pick your car carefully, the D8's tend to have less problems than the D9's do

D8 = Mk1
D9= Mk2

Being a member of the 406 Owners club, its a common census that the mk2 suffers more electrical faults and problems than the Mk1,

I disconnected my battery for about 10 mins this morning, and now of course the immobiliser is activated. The alarm fob I have misplaced since moving house last month, so I only have the ignition key.

How can I get the immoboliser to allow the car to start without the alarm fob thing? HELP please!?

You can also do the following:

Open Fusebox and remove the big black fuse in the middle marked HD

Turn on the ignition.

Replace the fuse and hey presto!

The airbag warning light comes on intermittently and at no obvious point in a journey. Today it came on when sharply cornering after the car had been driven for about an hour.

I keep thinking it could be a loose connection but don't know where to start looking (no wiring under the seats).

Suggestions gratefully received.

I have a 1996 Pug 405 Estate GLX TD and cant work out where the paint code is located! Does anyone know.

Alternitively anyone know what the code is for the light silver used then - I think its the same as 406's of a similar age

i have a x reg 306 2.0 hdi. the last 2 weeks the car has progresivly took longer to start and now barely starts at all. i fitted a new set of glow plugs and no difference, upon testing i realised i had no power to plugs when trying to start. this may have been because the temp was above 2 degres but light on dash normually flashes and now dosent....

Unfortunately the high pressure pump is incredibly delicate and expensive. The metal particles in the filter show that the tank pump is breaking up and MG said. Usually the tank pump sheds particles that find their way past the filter and then destroy the injection pump and injectors. It's been speculated that sometimes misfuelling...

I have just sold my other halfs old 306 to a very good friend of mine. I wanted to sell it to somebody i know, so they could get the benefit of a much loved and cared for car, and I could still play with it!!

One of the fans in my 405 1.6 carb won't work. Car was overheating during the winter but now in the summer it also cuts out my a/c.
The fan that is not working is the one that used to come on when I turned off the engine (it cools the carb for up to 12 minutes I think).

Using the search function, I removed the grill (4 screws) and turned the fans...

I removed the brown temp connector which brought the rhs fan on full blast, I poked the middle of the bad fan with my finger a couple of times and it hiccupped. I've been having a problem with my 1.5D where the car will sometimes (but not always) pop out of gear when I try to pull away in first. It's very annoying and can't be good for it. Where should I be looking?

It may possibly be a worn selector fork in the gearbox....or possibly incorrectly adjusted selector cables. From what I have heard over the years, cars jumping out of gear is usually worn selector forks in the gearbox itself...maybe worth just getting hold of a good 2nd hand box and putting it on, unless you know how to strip gearboxes of course.

Can my friend get a spare key cut for her 306TD, it's a 1997 car (with a non-immobilised bosch pump).. I am guessing there are no chips in the key.. there doesn't seem to be a key dash-light either.. it begs the question, how is a 1997 306 td immobilised ? no keypad...

Malcolm, (citroenut) also gave me some info... it seems if you dont have the factory key number, you need to go to a dealer and get that info, plus the blank key, plus recoding - around £70 I think.. Interesting you mention that it may be possible to 'read' the original key and get a new one cut and coded for £30..

Hi all,been a while since i`ve been on here.No real probs apart from abs light on.Now on 107k,with original clutch,still doing lots of towing.
Anyway,my sat nav is not working.Screen comes up insert disk,or no disk.Have cleaned disk,but still the same.Was wondering if anybody has another 406 with factory sat nav that i could swap disks to rule out...

Hi all you techy peeps, my brother-in-law has a 406 1.8 petrol,Yreg, and it is turning over, but not starting. Apparently, it was running ok one day, the next day.....nowt! He's tried the usual.....it has petrol! A pal of his changed the coil pack, but still nowt. I haven't tried anything yet, as I was told it could be the camshaft or crankshaft...

Immobiliser issue maybe? Have you tried both keys? My old folks 406 often refused to start, and it was down to an immobiliser fault.
