Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi all,

Sorry this is a long post :-)

The other day our Peugeot 306 1.4 8v 1998 decided to breakdown when the wife was driving home from work. When she was driving along all of a sudden the rev's of the engine went sky high and stayed high and the temp gauge started to rise so she pulled over and she also noticed some steam from the engine bay....

Is my Sealey AK730* Breaker Bar up to the job of removing head bolts; or am I likely just gonna break my brand new (and expensive to someone of my means) tool if I try?

And are they T55? this, the largest size in my Torx set seems just a little loose but I don't have a T60 to see if that'll fit.

Re models without dpf - I imagine that they don't have the intake electrovalves and bypass hosing that dpf models need (to bypass the intercooler when doing a cleaning cycle). If the dpf is removed then would it be worth fitting these (non-dpf hoses) to clean up /simplify the intake path?

Hi all,

I have a 306 1.4 8v LX (1998 Reg) which has a strange issue.

I could be driving along and all of a sudden the rev counter will stop working but then the car will also start to feel like there is a lack in power to the car when I put my foot down. Also sometimes when this happens and I put my foot down on the throttle and take my foot off...

My van blew an intercooler pipe last week, just got a new pipe and fitted it earlier. I also changed engine oil and filters at same time. I cocked up with oil and over filled it, van was on ramps whilst I put oil in, put in whole 5 litres, it was just over the max mark. Took it for a little run, its pulling like a train but smelly. If the valve clearances are out of spec, could I expect the engine to sound tappety at idle? Just done a service on a 206 and was hoping an oil change would quieten it down. Only afterwards do I realise that this engine doesn't have hydraulic tappets.

as long as you watch the rockers as the required valve opens fully, then rotate the cam back a touch, this should bring that rocker on the rock which if correct,

Replaced the F3 Brake band - replaced Main pressure regulating solenoid and Converter pressure solenoid - replaced ATF filter.

A Planet / Lexia (Diagbox in effect) will be a good investment as you'll be able to set the switch yourself as well as the oil wear. It will do everything apart from updating the ECU (as you'd need a connection to PSA for that)

My 305 has the Lucas/Girling style front calipers, which are single-piston slider calipers.

My car is a 87 GL 1.5 gasser which at some point in it's life has been converted to 1.8gld spec. I am not sure what they converted or didn't convert because I am unsure about the differences between the GL and GLD. For some reason I thought the gassers had...

i would suggest you either stick to your existing calipers and sort out the fault!!!??? ( flexi hose's collapsing ???? ),
or caliper slides binding,

the brake fitted from the factory should be adequate for the size and weight of the vehicle,

or go with the vented Bendix even though the solid or vented are both 266mm,

Hi guys, the gas in my air con system leaked out over the last week. So I thought before I go taking to the workshop and handing them hundreds.. I'd ask if there were a common place for it to leak.

Took it in, they had a pretty good idea that it leaked from the compressor. they went ahead and replaced the hose o rings and changed the filter...this was full of gunk.. and they put dye in the system. all for $500 seems to have fixed it but time will tell!

i have a 205 diesel with a brake problem that's got me stumped if anyone can help me out with a few suggestions please?

good discs and pads but when the brakes are applied, depending how hard and at what speed, it feels like the braking action is being pumped.....on-off-on-off......the pedal pressure feels good and is constant and there's nothing...

Look for accretions of rust between the hub face and inside of disc. This interface needs to be spotless and lightly sealed with something like high temp grease.

well shes home :)
was a struggle to get off the trailer so brakes seized :/

front drivers caliper very stiff so pushed in and out with wd40 so seem ok now.
rears need new cylinders and shoes.
also needs new fuel filter primer top.
time to visit the local garage :)

Normally I'd ask what car / model but usually you'll need it plugged into Lexia / Planet to check what the problem is.

Most likely cause on most models (where fitted) are the plugs under the seats.

I've once again replaced the Gear Knob on my 405, this will be about the fifth in as many years on two different cars. They've all done exactly the same thing, splitting vertically.

Spares such as this are becoming hard to come by now and I'm wondering if others have experienced such an issue and if anyone's got any advice to stop this latest...

205 ones might fit too, and are quite durable in most cases. If 205 hunting try to get a facelift but not last model, so a J/K/L plate rather than M/N/P (yes really) one. They come in grey or black. Later ones mostly in black. Slightly different design though so might look a bit odd but I guess you can get a couple when you're 'scrapyard shopping'...

I had a y reg ulysse jtd, basically the same which got a steering rack, It came out with no major problems, job done totally in about 3 hrs by a couple of amateurs, namely me and someone less of an amateur than me!

Visibly, well unless its got a tuning box which can sit between ECU and loom then no not easily. These don't always work as well as they should.

The other way was is to have the ECU flashed or one of the chips inside replaced. Not externally visible unless you wanted to take the ECU apart (not recommended)

I've been looking at the mounts trying to work out which one it might be. I couldn't see much movement but after taking the battery tray out. I can see the gear box mount moving about when pushing the engine forwards and backwards so chances it will be this one?

Is there much movement on the gear box mount by hand?

I'd agree the rear one is most likely as it likes to get an oily coating on most diesel models.

You can get the bush and take the mount off and press it in or I think the mount can come with the bush as well for more money.

If it feels shunty to power on / off the rear mounting is the first one I'd look at.

Hi ,Im new to the forum ,brought a T reg 306 (it`s a 1.6 meridian) the other day but the temperature gauge is not working at all ,and on checking it looks like the fan is not running either to cool the engine .

Welcome!

The colours are about right as far as I remember.

The brown one (assume you have aircon?) is the Bitron sensor. If that's unplugged the fans should come on within 10 seconds as it sees no signal as overheat

Without the dash gauge working its not easily possible to tell without other instrumentation if it is too hot. The normal running...

I've been working on my partners 206. Its a 1.4 8v TU3JP (KFW)

It had developed a leak from the thermostat housing (all plastic on this one) due to it being warped. Luckily it was the bit which comes with a new thermostat. Changed this, flushed the system and refilled. I'm now concerned that 3 days later I am still having to top up the coolant....

Can anyone tell me which EVS is responsible for changing the gears 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and reverse?
I have stripped the AL4 gearbox back to the F3 brake band and while I have to box out would like to change

I'm looking to get anther battery for my 306 hdi. But there so many out there and different sizes etc.

I was wandering what's the smallest to largest sizes battery I should be looking at getting?

I see from 63 ah 64 65 to Capacity: 74 ah car battery

Also 610 630 to CCA(SAE): 680

The engine will shut down while driving and when start again the RPM is not steady and tendency to shut down .it run perfectly after the second attempt . On and off the car want start and shows the key sign and eng. immobilizer. After several attempts manage to start. This hap pence after a long drive in hot condition

Is it a 'TU 16v' engine then? Nice to hear it shouldn't be too difficult to change the belt. Still have no idea on the belt change interval. Is it the same engine that's in the Citroen C4?

My 1998 406 would not select 1st or 2nd gear after I manually changed back through the gears to 2nd, managed to limp home and after taking the car to local Peugeot dealer but no fault or error codes found. Hi guys, ive got the 406 hdi and lovin it. My brother is looking at getting a 307 hdi... i have no experience with the 307's and know nothing about them. are they generally a good car or riddled with potential issues? anything to look out for?

HI everyone, I've recently put petrol in my XUD engined 2002 Partner. I believe the engine was from a Berlingo but it's an XUD engine with a Lucas pump in any case. I still had about 10 litres of diesel when I put 20 litres of petrol in and drove for 8 miles before the engine stopped.

My 2005 307 1.6 hdi has a hesitation and doesn't seem to accelerate strongly like our C4 with the same engine (both 1.6 hdi 110bhp).
I have lexia/Peugeot Planet - no codes showing, any ideas where I start ?

1st off, make sure that the vacuum operated rod on the turbo is pulling all the way down when the engine is running. (get someone to start the car whilst you watch it). This shuts the waste gate, and will cause the car to be poor if it doesn't work correctly. Also take the large pipe off the turbo inlet & check that the turbo is not worn...

I seem to have another problem with the 406, I bought a new Blower Resistor for the fan and it fixed the fan running all the time but the Air Con. dosent work so I put my old unit back in to check if the A/C worked and it didnt, so can someone help with this pl;ease

Hello guys,

A strange thing that happens, I have a 307CC (05) model and there is no fault normally.... but when someone sits on the passenger seat or I put my hand on the base of the seat. It will come up as Airbag Fault a few seconds later.
When I restart the car there is no fault at all.

Cannot find any information about that anywhere online?...

Alfa have the same sensor plugs as the Renault (even the diamond logo!) so I presume the same sensors, too - and the same problem...

The car is a 2005, 307 1.6 hdi and sometimes the coming fan runs at full speed after stopping the car ? I haven't noticed a pattern to when but the temperature gauge only ever gets to 80degs. I have seen posts about the Dpf trying to regenerate and failed heater plugs etc but unsure which it is. I have peugeot planet, there aren't any fault...

Did all 405's have a rear brake compensator valve fitted? I've heard all about how much trouble the spring can cause as it's not available separately. However I got my 405 with 103k on it, and it had no compensator valve fitted. The lines go straight to the rear brake cylinders. Good find, I had checked Neat car parts already on ebay, and they sell the same one on there for £110! I had assumed link was the same price. For £55 new I think I'll just fit one.

Climate control / digital ac are more or less the same thing, you have a temp display and choose the direction and temp and it should regulate it, compared to having dials and knobs (which may be electronic but not 'controlled')

Hade the diagnostics machine on my 306 1.6 meridian estate as the airbag light is on. It showed code 1801 drivers module. Is this the steering wheel or one elsewhere?

Please help as mot is Thursday :-(

My Peugeot 306 hdi 1999 during the winter and cold times the glow plug light used to come on. But since the weather warmed up I've not seen it on for awhile now.

The car starts and drives fine no problems. I was thinking the same why the light stopped coming on maybe the warmer weather.

I worked out today why the glow plug light wasn't coming on...

I got a stainless exhaust system 2 and half inch all the way to the cat. I got a bit of the downpipe which joins the middle section 2 and half inch to 2 and 1/4 inch.

I know the standard hdi and xud cats are not 2 and half inch joning the middle section. So what size are they?

Also do the hdi and xud both fit middle section and back boxes to...

Anyone know where the glow-plug relay is on a 1997 'R' 306 D-Turbo?

My son's will intermittently refuse to start and the glow plug indicator doesn't illuminate.

Had a bit of a poke around today with no success other than it is starting with no problems :?
Couldn't locate the relay though.

I think it varies, some models might use one of the sensors in the thermostat housing and some will have an ambient air temp sensor in the module itself.

This is a bit of a strange question I know, but does anybody happen to know, were there any vehicles which had the XU/HDi family but also had 4wd?

I know there was a 4wd Berlingo and possibly a few others available, but I am not sure if they were done by a 3rd party company.

I think they don't have a door pin switch they rely on the actuator itself, that may be faulty. It may be easier if the door wiring is OK (I think Planet can do an actuator test too) to replace the actuator in the door.
