I've bled my VTS a week ago and as long as the stream from bleed screws(one on the matrix pipes, like yours and one on the thermostat) wasn't full and continuous, there was air in the system.

Citroen should know this already - the worst culprits are non-dealer garages, and tyre fitters - their fitters don't have the training to cover specialist vehicles - ATS are the exception in some cases - but I never leave my car with any tyre fitter - opting to ensure they follow the procedure or else.

It is unusual for a Xantia strut to leak, even at very high mileage.

If I recall correctly, V6 struts are not the same as HDI struts.

On the matter of LDS flowing back down the return pipe, that is probably quite normal, as the point that you have disconnected is probably below the level where the return enters the tank, so fluid that has accumulated in the return system (including from other hydraulic components) will follow gravity and exit through the lowest opening.

Recommended period of use is 1500−5000km, so if you're not massively over that limit, you'll be fine.
The main component of Hydraurincage is the same as LHM (mineral oil), plus some small quantities of cleaning solvents. It does have lubricating qualities, and will not damage the system.

Absolutely - try and go for a genuine one from a dealer having a clear out.
