Driving car with warning lights showing?

Post by legepe »

Hi
I am driving my Citroen Berlingo Multispace 2012 with several faults showing
The egr valve and the dpf have been replaced with new around 5000 miles ago, but the car still went into limp mode and still showed the egr stuck in cold position
I took the car after replacing these to a garage but they didnt have time to properly look at it so they simply disconnected the airflow sensor and one wire under in the engine bay fuse box (its the only single wire there and has a push plug attachment, not sure what its for?) to take it out of limp mode
Car so far has and is running fine, but I am getting concerned that it could be damaging the engine
I am guessing that the problem with it showing "Possible filter clogging and egr fault" could be electrical
Can I damage the engine running it with these things disconnected?
Any advice very welcome
Thanks
legepe
PS: topped engine with around 2 letres of oil today, seems to be burning oil.. could this be connected to problems described above?

It is not recommended to drive with the airflow meter disconnected as this will cause the engine ECU to start misfuelling and this can lead to other issues, not least increased fuel use and incorrect mixture.

I suggest you take it to a proper garage that can properly diagnose it and not bodge it. When the DPF / EGR were replaced was the engine ECU informed of this? If not this can still affect the warning messages you are receiving as it will still think the old parts are in place.

Once you have had those parameters configured, clear the fault codes, then take the car for a run and afterwards run another diagnostic. Report any remaining fault codes here. I have your VIN if this is for your vehicle with VIN ending 623.

The other issue you may have is that the DPF will likley not regenerate with the MAF disconnected meaning it could overload & clog very quickly, If it gets too clogged even a forced regen wont work & it would require removed & cleaned out. Not what you want after just replacing it.

Thanks very much for the replies
Im sure I informed the ecu of the new DPF using diagbox but maybe didnt do it correctly, I think I probably followed something off Youtube, I didnt know I had to do this with the ecu! and thought that clearing faults would suffice
I do believe the vin ends in 623 but ill check it

Hi
Does anyone have or know where I can find correct instructions for diagbox to inform ecu of new dpf and ecu?
Thanks again

You didn't mention about a new ECU - only a new EGR and DPF.

These should both be in 'Pack Repair' / Replacement parts depending on what version of Diagbox you have. You'll have to have a hunt around though.

Sorry for confusion I meant to say EGR instead of ECU
