I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Since the two engines are PSA XUD's, they should be the same. While its out, it would be a very easy job to put on a new cambelt and maybe replace the tensioner pulley.

Stuck thermostat or other blockage in the cooling system, but definitely look at the thermostat first, it might not be opening fully. After that check the water pump flow rate, and that you have a good mixture of coolant and water. It would do no harm to flush out the whole system to clear it of any gunk that may have built up in the engine or...

lee, first you would use the numbers 1 - 4 to enter the code, keep on pressing the numbers until you get the correct number, eg if you want No 3, as you first No press 1 4 times etc, then you press 6 to accept the code, this should be of help to you

Hi Pete - Yes, you do have an intercooler. Its in front of the radiator. To trace your overheating troubles, start by making sure that the space between the intercooler and the radiator is clear of leaves and other debris. Give the cooling system a thorough flush and refill with fresh antifreeze.

You're not having a lot of luck are you!
I'm trying to work out why the camshaft snapped, usually a problem caused by insufficient lubrication, or of course a problem with the cam carriers.Was it definately the correct cam? Did you fit new matching cam carriers at the same time, were they profiled to the cam?
I'm not sure about oil starvation...

then camshaft seized in the middle bearing and snapped the new cam shaft at no. 7 and 8 valves or no. 4 cylinder and shattered the cam cap.(middle)

If the problem is indeed exhaust related then you won't do any damage to the engine UNLESS it gets to the point where a piece of exhaust baffle blocks off part of the pipe, as this will increase back pressure noticably and will result in poor acceleration.
Are you sure it's the cat? On my BX (with cat) it was coming from the box mounted...

I got a 98'(MK1) Xantia 2.0i 16v as of yesterday its starting to making rattley sounds from the middle of the Exhaust.
It feels that the Catalytic Convertor its rattling when iam at low speeds and at a stand still. The noise goes after i have moved off into 2/3rd gear.
If this a catalytic convertor breaking up....can i still carry on driving...

Boost gauge's available here
All you need is a simple 8mm hose barbed Tee piece to splice into the small rubber charge sensing pipe going to the diaphragm housing on the top of the injection pump.
Best to phone and state your requirement's.

If you are referring to the LHM tank, surely it must be overfilled. If the level is checked as per the manufacturers instructions, and the float is at the correct position, the LHM is nowhere near the top of the tank. Unless some other problem is forcing the LHM back into the tank. But surely then, other symptoms would be apparent.

As far as I have been told on this forum the ZX/Xsara/306 all have the same suspension, i dont know about the brakes but I would guess that they are the same(remembering that different models in each range may have different brakes anyway).

Saxo Rear Drum Brake Adjusters

Hi Paul - At the base of the leading brake shoe there's a couple of serrated surfaces. Both of them are spring loaded. Move the bottom one against the spring tension and the long arm will move back, taking the shoe with it. With the drum in place, the footbrake should correctly adjust the shoes.

The diesel in the ZX is the same, basically, as that in the BX 19 and early Xantias. If the head had been planed at the same time as the head gasket is changed, and the block face - cylinders are square, there's no reason why it should require replacement again unless some external force acts upon it (like a burst water hose).

I think you have answered your own question when you said the car doesn't use any coolant which it certainly would with a leaky cap, without the pressure generated with a good cap, the water evaporates at to low a temperature and get's out, sooner or later you end up with a low coolant level.

There's one on the righthand side of the rocker cover, and there was an earlier type of vacuum pump that was driven by the aux drive belt, they are both connected to the brake servo by some form of hose though. Thermostat start's to open at 83c fully open at 99c.
Fan's ought to be thinking about it at around 90c
There may be an added complication if the car has aircon, if so check the brown conector on the stat housing for corrosion.

Hiya Gareth, use the metal sandwich type that's already fitted even if it has failed, at what mileage by the way.
A fibre gasket may fail sooner on this engine and here's why, the head is cast aluminium and the block is cast iron, when they heat up they expand at different rate's which put's high shear force's on the gasket.

I had a similar problme with my 2.0l volcane which I solved by replacing the idling stepper motor. I presume the 16v has one too. Funnily my problem o0nly happened on hot days.
I have tried loads of different pad compounds, Ferodo, Green stuff, halfords own and the best are Citroen OE.

If it were taking air in somewhere it would also be there when starting from cold, there wouldn't be any joy then either.
Only thing I can think of is a blocked fuel tank breather causing a vacuum to build up, listen for air being sucked in when the filler cap is removed.

Is the problem a lack of airflow or is the air not being distributed properly?

This would be black smoke I presume, does the engine have the same amount of power or does it seem to have less.
Does it run the same now as it did before, does it idle or rev smoothly.

It's not the sump gasket cos the only fluid in there is engine oil, the leak will be higher up and be merely running down past the sump.
The water pump is the likely culprit, can also be the rubber water pipe's where they connect to metal, the metal can corrode badly at these points.

Central Locking Remote control

I had the same problem with a used ZX I bought. The only place I could get a replacement remote was from a Citroen Main Dealer. It cost £140 for two new transmitters and receiver ( this fits in the roof panel just after the sunroof/ map light Assembly). Not cheap, but cheaper than fitting a new alarm!

ZX 1.9i Central Locking not working

Front door lock's are a good starting point, after that the wiring where it has to bend going from body to door, then the central locking controll, normally by the side of the handbrake lever inside the console.
And of course any connector's on the wires.

I have just purchased my first ZX, and after one week the central locking system is not working. I t was a few days ago the I realised when I locked it with the key there was a little clicking sound. Xantia Cooling Fans

Try the thermo switch screwed into the radiator, right hand side looking from the front, plug has 3 connections +12, slow,fast. To test the fans connect the +12 to either of the other two connections. You will probably find that the fans are OK and the thermo switch in the radiator is duff (get one from andyspares about £12)

FWIW, if you fit a timing light to the car and take it to slghtly above a fast idle, check as to where the light & pointer are staying. If they fluctuate wildly, then the bushes are worn in the distributor shaft.
Possibly something to file under useless information but may just save you a dizzy cap or three

Just got a BX mobile that was damaged in an underbonnet fire; not a big blaze but bad enough.

Dissable the ABS, see if there is a difference.
Has it always done this or have you just got the car.
Bear in mind that the power brake's on a Cit are not the easiest to feather.

Hi Shaun - Your squeak could just be a mis-aligned piece of bodywork, on the other hand if the noise is more 'creak' than 'squeak', then it might be rear arm bearings. What sort of mileage has your car done? How do the wheels look from the rear? Are they leaning inwards at the top?

Any company offering tuning on the XUD9TE 1.9td engines are basically doing the same thing as far as I can see. That is adjusting the diesel pump (theres 3 adjusters), adjusting the wastegate on the turbo, and upping the boost. I know on the Van Aaaken conversion they also manage to stop the engine from overfuelling. You've probably all followed...

Sound's like a later model ZX with an EGR (exhaust gas recirculating) valve, there is usually a covering of black oil in the intercooler and it's pipes, there shouldn't be pool's of the stuff though and especially not at that mileage.

Has anyone any experience of fitting softer than standard spheres to a Xantia? I have a 2.1TD which is pretty firm and getting a bit bouncy at the moment, I'm sure the spheres are getting past it but I am just curious about fitting softer ones when I replace them.
