what engine in xantia??? it sounds like a clutch problem to make pedal stiff (could be lucky could be cable) brakes need checking one thing you can be sure withxantia brakes working properly they are instant without much pressure (could be air in system).

There have been quite a few threads on ABS in particular Xantia ABS so if you go to search and put either ABS or Brakes in I think you'd get plenty of advice to read on this subject.
To me, it sounds more like something not telling the ECU that it's supposed to be working rather than it not working! I'd personally begin bt removing the road wheels...

Having bought my 1996 Xantia 1.9TD recently with tyre sizes of 195/50/15, I was wondering what the original tyre sizes were? The sticker on the side of door indicates 185/65/15 but the manual says 195/55/15 for 1.9TD. Which is the correct original size? Thanks.

I have had this problem. The only thing that worked for me was replacing the drivers side door lock. It's a bit tricky as the adapter is different from the original. You will need to splice the new wiring into the existing loom. Xantia 1993 TD SX still going strong 140K miles

Hi Chris, I think you can forget all about stud extractors of any kind, if the bolt wouldn't unscrew and broke, then an extractor has got no chance.
Options as see them are 1, take the arm off and take it where the bolts can be removed, 2 get it recovered as you say to a garage, 3 drill the bolts out which will be a bit risky as you might damage...

I suppose it could be a bit of end float on the sun gears but it would be a big drama to haul that out to check. I had one on my BX 16V that turned out to be the circlip on the CV that hadn't been pressed into its groove properly allowing the shaft to float when I turned right, particularly if I accellerated at an intersection. Talk about throwing the cat among the pigeons!
I'm no engineer but I know that the Xantia eats up bumps like nothing else and that I'd sooner do a DIY sphere replacement than mess about with coil springs and shock absorbers. As for unreliable, I've done 90,000 miles across two Xantias and never had a problem.

Hi, I bought a Xantia Activa a couple of months ago. It was registered in November 1998 but built in 1997. When I first went to see the car at a fleet car centre in Leeds, it couldn't be started because they didn't have a code for the immobiliser.
They then sent the ECU off somewhere for decoding or reprogramming and called me when it was ready....

All Citroen Zantias that are fitted with the anti-sink feature are fitted with a centre sphere on the rear subframe. The anti-sink valve is bolted on below this sphere and has several steel pipes coming out of it

Had a problem with that relay on a family members TD Aura, awkward to get at.
The spade connectors to the relay went bad , started arcing got hot melted relay and wiring, eventually no head lights at all.
New relay and wire connectors, problem sorted.

the dropping in height might be caused by worn spheres on the rear?

Hi Bodger - You didn't say which vehicle the hub was on, but if you have a good socket set, it shouldn't be difficult. The most likely difficulty will be getting the nut undone on the driveshaft end. It's a fairly large socket and it needs a lot of leverage to move it. You'll also need a tool to break the balljoint taper.

your juddering could be caused by warped disk's.
and squealing could be caused by not have any anti-squeal on the back of the pads, by anti-squeal i mean copper grease/slip from your local car shop.

Not wanting to state the obvious, but have you tried your local friendly(?) scrap yard? Look for a crash specialist as they'll have the newer cars like the Xantias, Otherwise check through Autotrader in the Breaking section, to be fair they'll probably laugh at you for wanting them but you can get as many as you want for peanuts!

Hi JohnCKL - Congratulations - Yes your Xantia has an intercooler, it's in front of the radiator. Until the turbo cuts in at around 2000revs, you won't find much power in the higher gears. If you go to any of the Tyre Co. websites or suppliers (most of them), some have a interactive chart for your car and state what could be the max. size tyre and rim you fit without any mods, also tell you what offset your rims should have.

I'm no expert but since our HDi has 16in alloys and you can still put it on low setting I can't see a problem. Wouldn't you also use low profile tyres so the overall diameter would be the same? Or your speedo would also be out - or have I missed the point?

Accumulator sphere is screwed onto the regulator.
What do you mean by reservoir end , if acc./reg. assembly then its the sphere, this is where the reserve of high pressure oil is stored.
Power steering pinion valve is on the steering rack.
Depending on the year of car it may or may not have a flow divider, what year is it.

I've had a Xantia for a year now. When I first bought it the ticking didn't occur too often. The frequency has gone up though, which prompted me to replace the accumulator sphere. I also changed the suspension spheres because the ride was getting harder and breaking had a slow oscillation to it. Both symptoms were removed by the latter...

has it any relation to heater blower ???? if it does then it could be ignition switch faulty. there is a fuse usually outside by the battery in secondary fuse box also relay sometimes right at back of power steer pump otherwise under passenger footwell.

Hi Bodger - If it's a genuine 60K with FSH at that price and a new MOT cert, I'd say go for it. Check the rise and fall of the suspension. Check the colour of the LHM and the rad coolant. Also look at the doors for alignment and correct closing. Let's know what you do.

Lots of Xantia's Iv'e been in have had a feint whine from the diff, though you only noticed it on good quiet road surfaces.
Strange that there should be any sound from it at all though from a company who's emblem stands for quiet running gear wheel technology.
The double chevrons on the bonet depict the gear teeth of a double helix gear wheel.

What engine does your ZX have?
Changing the coolant is not too difficult, but getting the air out afterwards can be - especially on diesels. I am not sure about the exact layout of the ZX, but Citroen quite often finish with the filler cap lower than the highest point in the coolant system so you need to bodge up a header tank to allow you...

it is very common on the turbo diesel models the clutch is a 2 piece unit with fixed thrust bearing the diaphragm tends to stiffen long before the actual plate wears out first sign is stiff clutch then the clip on pedal normally snaps.

common fault on the xantia is the caliper actually tilts in towards the disc a large amount of corrosion gathers on the back of caliper to arm best way is to split caliper take disk off then bolt caliper back together prise pads out then. work pistons back in then unbolt caliper again and clean off 1, area where pads slide. 2,back of caliper arm...

Well Mat if your'e fitting new disc's it doesn't matter what you hit the old ones with, a rubber mallet isn't going to cut it when they are like this.
Get a good weighty hammer, two pound's is about right and hit the disc hard at right angles to the hub face to shock the joint and at its periphery to get it to rock, but most important is really...

Use a coke bottle with the bottom cut off as a header tank, make sure you know where all the bleed screws are. Sounds like a leak somewhere have you checked all the unions, does it drip water over night. Park it on clean asphalt or preferably light coloured concrete overnight to find out

Check for play in the inner joint and the inner joint body to the diff.

This may not be appropriate for the estate version, but I made a steel box from 1/8th plate at work and put a five lever safe lock in the lid.
The suspension mounting bolt's on the Xantia protrude a good distance through the nut's, so I made some extensions to screw onto them and bolted the box down onto those extensions.
