Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hello, with the top of the strut removed (sphere bracket) the chrome leg that inserts into it has an oil hole at the top, does this need to line up with any holes on the strut top?

We`ve owned a 1999 Synergie 1.9 sx diesel for almost a year now and after a few months sorting out a black smoke/poor acceleration problem she`s going like a guddun now. However, the electrics are playing up now.
The rev counter only seems to work every other day which is annoying but not as annoying as the climate control which keeps blowing its...

I bought a 94 VSX Xantia. Seller has no code for the kepad immobilizer. Car is stuck in 'Neutral' mode and does not ask for code anytime.

Can I disconnect the keypad and forget it? Will it ask for the code sometime
in the future? Will it stop working if the batter is disconnected?

my TD 1.9 Xantia thus giving anyone a reasonable clue as to which numbers
to press
I understand it's often used by the criminal fraternity. I remember seeing a film (fiction) where the same technique was used to break into a room with keypoad entry. My bank's ATM used to have two worn buttons...

My appologies for my poor spelling :)

Ahh i did think it would be a bit hard with say teh rears on teh car unless yuo actually had ramps and even then you wouldnt be able to get a good grip on it and still be safe...

£300 straight away knowing full well that'd be the equivalent of their return
on the seats, wheels, lights, bodywork etc before even doing the deed with

does anyone know if the top feed pipe on the front strut of the xantia vsx has a rubber seal? I have just dismantled mine and cant find the old one.

I've got a 3.0 V6 Xantia as a second car, its slowly losing water, just have to keep topping it up. It seems to be coming out of the exhaust, the headertank is under presure if you unscrew the water filler cap when engine is warm. It only uses loads of water if you really floor the car all the time.

Any advise? Dump it? Is there some magic bottle...

As f00lzz says, get it properly diagnosed before you make any assumptions.
The emmissions tester for the water system as discussed recently here would
be worth paying a garage to diagnose for you, although the real sod will be
determining which of the two heads is supect if in fact a HG has gone.

I've got a card (3rd oarty, not a Citroen one) which has a code scribbled on it, but its only 3 digits. Is this likely to be the right one, or is there any way to pull the code out whilst the radio is still powered? Failing that, is there a way to decode it without resorting to the Main Stealers?

It's the Xantia one with the CD jack on the bottom...

Hello,

Can anyone help?

I have been having problems with my blower, basically I cant turn it off without removing the fuse. I have read a few threads and decided to remove the fan control panel and check/buzz it. It all seems ok.

Next step was to remove the blower and check the transistors but they seem to be ok.

I have replaced fuse 8 which has got the clock going, but fuse 25 has a kind of bridging fuse from 25 to the fuse adjacent????

It also seems that when I turn off the ignition the engine has a delay before it cuts out fully!!!!!!!!!

Got a problem starting the BX - starter motor turns but the engine will not fire up. Glowplugs and filter have been replaced, I primed the filter whilst trying to start this morning. Engine turns over, will not start and the sound whilst the starter was turning over was different to the normal sound when it would start.

Any idea what the cause...

Having replaced the pivot droplinks on the BX (1.9 Diesel 1990), went in to get 2 new tyres to be shown that the passenger side swivel balljoint is slightly loose.

According to the book of lies this balljoint screws into the upper mounting and you need a special Citroen tool to remove it. Is this the case or can it be done at home?

the shield is to protect the swivel joint from heat of the brake disc,just see how long you can hold you hand on the disc after you have been on a resonably long journy,and what holds these joints in place is the peening of the edge into the slots in the bottom of the hub

The Bitron is a black plastic box of about the size of a packet of cigarettes.
They are not all the same, mine has 15 pins arranged in two rows.
The left photo above, click to enlarge, shows fewer pins.
The right photo shows the black Bitron box in its place on diesels.

The brown sensor is connected between pins 7 & 14 of the Bitron....

Hello, I've got a Xantia 1.9TD vsx, earlier today the front passenger side strut came up through the inner wing, the car looks fine no rust or rot, it looks as if the strut broke away from the square plate/bracket that bolts it to the car up inside the front wing, Do I need to replace the hole strut or can it be stripped and this square...

Used father-in-laws car to go cornwall in to play safe. Came back wouldn't start again so got another battery and it started. Also thinking of changing glowplugs before cold weather comes in. Also to top it off sounds if frontwheel bearing gone!! TYPICAL, it never rains but it pours.

Am I lucky, or does the ZX TD with a Lucas pump have the easiest access? I've just changed the set of 4 in less than half an hour with just a socket set. Only dropped one nut as well...

This was without the aid of a magnetic screwdriver, and it was on a hot engine.

Never tried a Xantia, though..

Francisco, just to let you know that I eventually managed to pop the spring clips on the back of the steering wheel which hold the airbag in position. Once the airbag is removed it is a simple matter of tightening the torx screw (T50) which holds the steering wheel.

Hi Guys,

I've got an XM that i just collected at the weekend.

When i opened the passengers door, it now wont stay shut, it just bounces back open. :(

The little snib on the door moves fine, but doesn't lock when it gets to the top, i've tried soaking it all in WD40, but no joy, just wondering if anybody could help me. :)

Ah, this old bad of chestnuts :lol:

I've had this on my Zx and the Xantia, my BIL had it on his Zx and my mate had it on his Zx.

The best solution was to remove the lock mechanisms and give them a good clean and fill em' up with some fresh grease.

However what tends to do the job fairly well if your not technically minded like myself to do the...

Hi Gang,

I think I have a sticky brake caliper as I'm getting a slight judder when braking lightly.

I've replaced all 4 discs front and rear recently and the pads. Also cleaned up the front and rear of the calipers where they connect to the hubs.

AS a result of a brake caliper bolt shearing one day ( another story) due the alignment changing...

Just sold my 110bhp HDI, 2000 model. Fed up of the bumpy back end. Now have a 2 litre 140 bhp brand new Hyundai Tucson.
Do I miss anything? No. The tucson is shorter, has more room and more performance. I feel that the newer Citroens, C5 etc have a cheaper hydraulic system and the C4 has springs, so they are not for me.

My 2000 Synergie 2.0 HDi has just start to have a flashing coolant temp warning lamp. The temperature is fine indicated at 80 degrees. Water level is ok. The problem only occurs if the air con is on auto, switch to eco or turn off and the flashing stops.

Any suggestions what up?

Im thinking of going for the repair one as the head is coming off teh car i bought from fleabay and its going to be skimmed a tiny bit anyway when its pressure checked before refitting and ensure it should have a longer life though it may reduce compression a little, would this reduce...

Just started having problems with my Dip/Main Beam.
Lights are automatic so come on OK when dark. Problem is with switching between Dip and Main Beam. This is on the same stalk as the indicators.

Had reason to call on my breakdown insurance whilst returning from holiday in France last weekend and found out something that I was never aware of before.
Apparently any recovery from the motorway network is your responsibility to organise and cannot be arranged by your insurer ( although they will cover the costs ) . They will only get involved...

Hi

I need to remove my xantia rear bumper, I have removed all of the screws and bolts as recommended by good old Haynes... then it says 'remove the 4 bolts from the underneath' . I cannot see any more retaining bolts underneath? The bumper seems quite loose. Am I missing something? :?:

I'm in the process of trying to get this ZX back on the road but the bleed nipples on both front calipers are broken. On this particular car (though not on my other ZX) the beed nipples are actually screwed into a bolt which is then screwed into caliper body.

If you are really stuck, you can bleed the brakes by slackening the the feed pipe union - assuming that hasn't siezed as well!

We did this on a old ZX we had many moons ago, pedal wasn't as good as it used to be but it stopped fine & passed its MOT's fine.

Yes thats the part i replaced on mine it was the resistor in the middle that had gone ( it was,nt conducting) so i replaced the complete unit there,s plenty of these cars about here and also a lot in the scrappies so i dont think there,s a problem getting this part or any other parts as yet.

Sometimes the headlights on the ZX don't come onto dip when swtiched on, usually coming on if the switch is worked between dip and main beam. Last night my wife said that they were going off while she was driving along, so I guess it's time to do something about it! It's got to be the swtich, but just wondering if this is a common failure and...

Haven't had a chance to look at it yet - it keeps raining! The wiring diagram I've got doesn't show a relay, but I'll have a listen for one anyway. I'm 99% sure it's the switch, since flicking it to main beam brings the dip beams on too. No air bag on this one, so whipping the wheel off is no bother anyway.

Hi Guys.
My Head Unit no longer recognises the CD changer (standard Philips/Clarion setup) in my Exclusive. CD cartridge will still eject so power is there. I have removed both HU and Changer and both are still 'plugged in'. I have also disconnected and reconnected in an attempt to re-set the system... any ideas??????

if you were listening to it, and it just died, I wonder if the cd changer umbilical cable has chafed through somewhere, and hence the head unit no longer recognises it's there.

I've had similar with a loose plug on the back of the head unit before. CD changer still had power, but the head unit refused to believe it existed.

Couple of questions on the ZX TD Estate i've just bought to replace the Xantia..

Did all SX trim ZX's have remote central locking? I've got the dome in the roof, but didn't get a plip keyfob. Is programming the same as with a Xantia (Ignition to posn 1, and press the button for your life's worth for about 30 seconds)?

Hi,
I've found a replacement engine for a non runner I purchased off E-bay.
Does anyone know if I can simply fit a replacement engine complete with a new fuel pump without problems with the engine immobiliser?
The reason I ask is that the car came with the engine half stripped and I really want to replace the lot.

I understand where you're going with a full replacement engine. The original does sound suspect on a few levels and you could go to the hassle of reassembly and find issues with the bearing shells/big ends. Something made someone decide the only course of action was removal of the head for a look see...

Hi all, been driving the xant around for about a month now and have racked up 2k or so, and thought it about time I checked the coolant level.
Have I missed something obvious because my tank appears to be black! And doesn't seem to have any external min/max indicator. It's pretty cluttered round there anyway, to see the front or side...

Think I may have found the problem.

If I enter xsara headlight into the search for all terms section, it returns no items found - fair enough. but if I then use the browser back button and try any other search, it seems to be stuck in a sort of loop of returning no items found.

Hitting the link for a new search solves the problem.

Hello!! My C5 key fob was working fine, then all of a sudden one day last week I could not lock/unlock remotely or partly open the windows after locking (a C5 feature). New battery was my first thought and so new fob battery installed - no joy. Anyone have any ideas how these RF fobs can be tested? Many thanks,

Hello,need some help again,i can hear a rumbling sound from front offside wheel area when i'm driving, well at least it sounds that its coming from there,i put new discs and pads on to try and rectify it thinking that it might be that, incidently they needed doing,but the noise is still there intermitantly,so i think it might be bearings,looked in...

finally done the front offside wheel bearing, been driving around for a couple of weeks listening to all of the noises which eminate from a xantia and zeroed in on the bearing and bit the bullet and stripped the front hub bearing assembly down...unfortunately i wrecked 2 new bearing attempting to press them in myself so i got a local garage to do...

Hi!
I have 2 situations (unexpectable):
1. 2-3 sec after driving beginning ABS lamp-ON. Great braking performance-no ABS.
2. ABS lamp-off, ABS works, but braking is not proper-the ABS releases brakes too early. Further pressing on the pedal solves the problem, but anyway-it is not normal braking.
What is the problem?

So, for testers in UK my Xantia is OK-the ABS lamp goes off in 1-1.5 sec. :lol:

Here in Israel-I don't remember that testers checked ABS as You describe. But they do check that the lamp will be off and breaks efficiency-on the stands.
Since my annual test will be in april-I hope to fix the problem before.

It looks like its from the brake valve, in fact I am sure it is.
Is there a quick win for this or not?
Has anyone removed a brake valve?
The car is a 1993 1.9TD sx Xantia with abs, no aircon.

How difficult is it to retrofit remote central locking to a ZX? Is it just a matter of getting hold of the reciever unit and matching plip and plug it all in?

easy, go up the breaks & see if you can find a set of keys with a blipper on (if your lucky) get them & the recivier in the roof & the loom that runs down the pillar to the passengers footwell, it then just plugs into the exsisting loom down there.
I did it to my Elation when I first got it.

Hi Gang,

Had a problem with my drivers seat for the past year :lol: :!:

Just took seat out and found the one of the front mountings which was fixed to floor has sheared off :!:

On closer examination the rear one directly behind is starting to go.

Going to weld a new piece of metal onto the subframe/floorpan and sort same.

Just fixed seat and bolt mounting with a bit of a help from a friend.

Just for info one bolt is fixed and the other 4 can be adjusted as the securing nuts are can move a bit.

For once a fairly easy job to do :wink:
