Radio volume low

My car has the 3030RDS radio and for some reason today it has gone into 'low volume mode'. That is, I cannot turn up the volume to a listenable level. The volume control increases and decreases the volume from inaudible to low.

The only possible external fault would be a problem with the speaker wiring, possibly a short circuit, otherwise it will be fault in the audio stages of the radio.

Does the 3030 have an input to mute the radio when a phone call is received? If so, you know where to look

Last night in a traffic jam on the motorway, and the windows wide open, it suddenly burst into life on full volume.
