Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

my heater /aircon blower does not blow as hard as my daughters in the same type of vehicle she seems to have another 2 power levels on hers even though we have the same settings.IE my fastest blow is equivalent to two settings below on hers. are the blowers going west can they be repaired.

My 2.0LI vsx (early 155bhp) has developed an intermittent erractic idle, where it revs itself up occasionally when warm. It pulls well when cold but seems to lose some power when warm, is it the stepper motor and if so where is it coz the haynes book of lies doesn't cover this model in any detail. Hello

I've got a Citroen Berlingo Multispace Forte, 2000. It doesn't have central locking and unfortunately the locks on the boot and the drivers side door no longer work. Euro Car Parts say they don't sell them, and my local Citroen dealer wants over £200 + vat for locks for both front doors and the boot, which seemed excessive. I'd be grateful...

Morning

I've had an ongoing problem since I got my Xantia last Christmas which I've posted various threads about but still not cured. Through process of elimination I have now come to the stage where it my be internal leakage.

The symptoms are;Regulator cycling at 6-16 seconds apart
Front suspension drops down nearly to bump
stops after 5...

The sound I should get from the regulator.

Some times it clicks. Some times it whooshes. By this I mean the sound the pump makes when the car is rising from lowest setting every morning (non anti sink).

Should it do both?

wonder if anyone knows waht this could be. I have a 96 Xantia 1.9 TD with aircon. The slider control on the demister to cold inlet to car slider has stuck on the windscreen bit, ie to the right. Air con works fine but air does not go to screen. It goes to front vents, bottom fron car vents on gearbox tunnel.

hi I've just joined the site. I sold my fiat cinquecento last week and bought myself a 1999 xsara 1.4 west coast on wednesday. It cost £650 and seems to be in mint condition. Its a great drive and really comfortable.

But there does seem to be some niggles that I'd very much appreciate anyones thoughts on, since I'm inexperienced with cars...

the engine oil warning light keeps appearing when i start my 94 xantia 1.9td

it has only started to do this recently, but was only a couple of weeks ago since i put a litre of oil in it.

is this anything to worry about or is it just low pressure with the engine starting?

It’s very common for the oil level light to flash at start-up when the car is parked at an angle.
It’s the orange light at the very right of the top row of lights in the left side cluster.
There’s got to be a bit more oil in the sump than the dipstick’s maximum indication.
Not too much more in a diesel though, the engine may suck the oil in to...

Hi all,

Above has started to crunch slightly when changing into 5th. Sounds like its just clipping really. Can be avoided if I keep the gear stick pushed to the right whilst selecting 5th. Any ideas?

Also, anybody know of any specialists in Manchester?

If it engages easily but crunches especially when cold, the synchro ring is wearing. If its anything like the CX gearbox you can take the end off under the n/s wing and get to it, only mine fired ball bearings all over the place when I took it apart but hopefully the Xantia one being more modern wont.

My trusty ZX ground to a halt the other night, diagnosed by me as no fuel at the carb.

I recently replaced the fuel pump with a 2ndhand one, so immediately suspected that. However, I've just tested the power supply at the pump & there isn't any....

I'm trying to find the fuel pump on my L reg 1.4i ZX - can't see it anywhere near the back of the engine and it doesn't appear to be under the back seat. Haynes not overly helpful here....is it electrical or mechanical for this model?

Having sold my '93 Xantia TD, I've just bought a '99 Xantia HDi SX estate with 97k on the clock.

Aside from what's in the service schedule, what preventative maintenance should I do to avoid known design problems in the future?

Having replaced the dreaded clutch cable to pedal clip on my previous Xantia (a Mk.1 TD), I wasn't looking forward much to doing the same job on the present car (Mk 1-2 'hybrid' 2.0 16v). I'd had to saw through the pedal bolt to get it out (and even then had to slightly bend the mount), and the cable proved a real pain to fit - the angle meant...

Late in 1995 when Citroen fitted 15 wheels as standard to TD and 2.0 Xantia's, one of the modifications at that time was to widen the footwell to the left of the clutch pedal which may explain the difference.

Hi mates,
I got a tiny bit of problem fixing electric seats into my P reg Xantia SX. Seems my car is missing the wiring loom to be fitted to the seats. I did found the connector for seat heater but none for the power seats itself.

I removed front floor carpet thus exposing all wiring loom but no sign of the right connectors. I checked the fusebox...

My 1994 M Xantia 1.8i 8V broke down on friday night for seemingly no reason, I had petrol and a spark but It wouldnt go, now it spins over and makes a weird noise and looks that the cambelt has jumped but not snapped.

Has anyone had this happen before to them? Im now on the look out for a used head.

If my memory serves me correct -

Then this BX was the one in daily use by a engineers couple who were both employed at an oil company. The BX was discontinued because a more recent technology car was needed for the oil additive test programme this BX was used for.
I remember it had the g/b replaced - not because of gear/bearing failure - but...

I have the option of buying the works Blingo Multispace 2.0HDi Forte to replace my Xantia 2.0HDi LX.
The wife wants something we can fit 3 child seats in the back into and the Blingo on a 53 plate is up for £3000
The main pros are:
Slightly reduced length compared with Xant
Cheaper road tax
3 proper seatbets for kids in back
NCAP 4* vs NCAP 2.5*...

An XM estate would probably be your answer, if you can find one and afford to maintain it. to my knowledge there is no roomier, more comfortable or economical (manual diesel) car on the road. Or better tow car.

dose any one know if the main steering feed pipe from the regulater to the flow valve is the same on all power steering BXs,i am after one for a BX 16valve GTI,my local dealer said it is diferant on the 16 valve,and no longer avalible for the said model,i just tried looking it up on pr.net and it would not let me veiw the steering feed pipes...

Aren't the numbers shown on the ECU boxes in the wiring diagrams in Haynes the pin numbers?

You can download Haynes ZX manual (petrol) here:

It looks complete and is in English - Diagrams in Chapter 12 around P28. I think the wiring diagrams published in Haynes are official Citroen and not drawn by Haynes.

My cold idle electrovalve has packed up. I gather from forum searches that this is not unusual. Can I simply swap pipes and wiring with the EGR valve and run like that? If I do this is it a long term solution or should I be looking to get a new one and do it properly? Any problems with running with it not working ie fuel consumption etc?

I too had to replace that valve. I remember the dealer couldn't find the valve on his parts database, its on the same page as the EGR....

My 1998 xantia 2.1td needs a matrix change (RAD) and well i'm not man enough i've looked at the posts concerning the job and cryed! :cry: i've had garages turning me away only cit would do it with a heavy price tag feel pritty sick about it i hate not being able to do things myself. I've been thinking it maybe easyer to make one of them things...

Yes, coincidentally just seen that on TV here tonight, about the local car manufacturing industry being in trouble.
In through the driver’s side opening without door, and the door goes in afterwards.
Previously seen it going in through the windscreen opening, but didn't see what make of car it was. :?
Probably both local makes.

My daughter's recently acquired Xantia 1.9d occasionally and momentarily loses power and then picks up again and continues to run OK. When I opened the bonnet the fuel bulb was sucked in as though by vacuum and it felt as though it was not full of fuel. I squeezed it and it regained its normal shape and then felt full of fuel and the car then ran...

We finally got round to getting the sender/fuel pickup out of the tank and discovered that the filter was almost completely obscured by general rubbish and what looked like part of a latex glove. Carefully cleaned it and put it back and power is now fully restored and is running better than ever. Thanks once again

i was in citroen birmingham today with my sons c4 and while i was waiting i spotted some leaflets on fixed price items for the c5.i have a c5 so was curios as to what they had to offer.front spheres fully fitted £256 each.i think someones taking the p.gsf are selling c5 sheres at £36 + vat each.thought i would give you all a laugh :)

VTS was the performance version of the Saxo, with the 120 bhp 1.6 litre engine. The VTR came with a body kit very like the VTS but it's engine was more insurer friendly.... it looked like a VTS but didn't go like one.

I have a 1992 (K reg) XM 3.0 V6 SEi with air con and climate control and have heater problems.
Fan only works on full speed but all green lights work.
Whatever setting I select it still blows cold.
Seems like the flaps (or whatever they are) to divert airflow are not working.
Car has no water leaks so I would think it is a fault with the control...

Have tried through the haynes manual to rectify this fault at first it just jumped around now it doesn't work at all, the haynes manual refers to a top dead centre sensor but fails to disclose exactly where it is!!!, well i couldn't find it any who.Any ideas before i rip the clocks out to check they are ok?

There is a small leak coming from the valve thet the sphere screws onto at the front of the engine. I want to replace the valve and renew the LHM fluid.
How do I drain the fluid and will the brakes need bleeding when topping back up. If so, is it the normal procedure because I heard that the system is self bleeding.

I still haven't got blower...

The valve that you refer to is the pressure regulator. Why do you want to replace that ? Unless its faulty theres no reason to.

The leak should be relatively easy to sort out. It could be a leak around the base of the sphere due to a missing or improperly fitted seal, or could be one of the steel pipes leaking due to not being seated or tightened...

Hi, I need a RH electric door miror for a '96 18i 16v Xantia, silver. Someone has snapped sister-in-laws off over night - Malcolm, can you.......
Disappointing to have to fork out for someone elses vandalism whatever. New one not being painted is a pain. Anyone know of a breaker / second-hand parts dealer who may have a silver one?

Never mind the leak I had in my last topic, the main problem now is the steering wheel that is rattleing when i turn it to the left or to the right.
it happens only when the car is on the move, and mostly when it's cold and during the first 5 minutes of the drive.
the vehicle is Xantia 96 2.0L 16V manual.
what could it be?

As i said, there are no bubbles coming into the reservoir.
Also, the steering is very light and easy at all times.

the only problem except for the leak is the rattling coming from there, mainly at the first 5 minutes of driving.

Seems it lasts only 1-2 years in tropical weather or is the auxiliary belt adjusted too tight? How often do you guys have to change yours when it start knocking into the timing belt cover? Its not cheap either, about 70 pounds or so.

Nice calculation there to work out how long the belt should be with a smaller pulley - and of course if the slower auxilliaries will cause problems!

Have just had the question asked in Oz if these spheres are available.
I've never heard of them, (as sphere manufacturers) but the name is big in suspensions, so you'd have to think they'd have to be good.
Anybody ever seen or used them and if so, how do they stack up on price and performance?

Thats odd - I have just picked up (and put on) an XM accumilatoe branded AL-KO and date stamped July 2006. ECP stock ALKO spheres if these are Monroe in diguise!

Just nursing all the scratches now - good job it only needs doing every 100k or so! I had though about leaving no4, but it turned out that was the one that had failed, so I had to keep going. Managed it without any bust coolant pipes,...

I don't know if I am a masochistic old git, but I managed to change all my glowplugs in under 1 1/2 hours. I have a shallow stepped ring spanner than seems just perfect for this job. Number 4 was easier than number 1( if you call 4 the one by injection pump ) I will take a pic of it and post it on here. Certainly makes it easier than...

This also happened on my 95 xantia. From some good advice on this forum I changed the switch and the fan started to work again. I was rightly told that the wiring for the fan goes through the switch. Yesterday the interior fan on my 98 td estate failed to work on demand and would only work occasionally.......another new switch at a cost of £53+vat...

That’s definitely called doing the job ‘properly’. :)
The first modification by Citroën may have been done like that.
I modified mine in 1998, from a diagram I got from my Citroën mechanic.
The diagram was electrical only, showing what to do, but not how to do it.
So I improvised the job, with the relay dangling inside the cover above the...

Hi All

My Xantia has just acquired an unusual fault.

My speedo still works fine but my odometer and my trip counter have both stopped working. Both of them refuse to accumulate any more mileage.......

Before i start ripping the clocks out (with er care and professionalism) is there anything i should be looking for in particular?

Hi

i've got a 94 Xantia 1.9td which i bought recently

it came with the alarm disabled. problem is i've since done some work on it, disconnected the battery and its re-enabled the alarm. i've manage to silence it with the keyswitch under the bonnet but apart from that i cant stop it going off and flashing the lights when ever i go near it

I've just bought a Xantia Estate with the HDi engine. It has done 93000 miles so will be due a timing belt very soon.

Is the timing belt any more difficult than on an XUD? My mate claims it's an engine-out job, but it looks to me like there is at least as much room down there as on the old engine.

Can anybody confirm how big a job it is?

I would change the auxiliary belt at the same time. Also get your guy to look closely at the crank pulley. It has rubber bonding in it which can give up after long usage.

I have a series 2 1998 Xantia. It takes the same H1 type headlight bulbs as my 1996 series 1 Xantia did. Does anyone know if this is correct? I have seen listing for 1997> Xantia as using H7 bulbs. I thought the series 2 Xantia had different headlights to the series 1 model. If so does that mean my series 2 has been fitted with the earlier type...

OK If the ZX and the 306 is suppose to share things alike, can anyone answer the question below:

1) Why is the TD exhaust system on these cars so difference in sise and prices.

Cheers all the jobs a good un, first time I’ve had to disconnect the battery and first time I’ve had the seats out by my self (the joys of not having a warranty any more) The job took a while but I got there in the end.

Hi

i've just bought a 94 xantia 1.9td

the front spheres (including the centre) have recently been changed but the rear suspension is either very minimal or non exsistant. the rear brakes are also ineffective, the rear wheels can still be turned relatively easily with the pedal hard to the floor

i've checked the linkage to the rear corrector...

i have being trying to resolve the problem brought up in my other post

during which i have managed to cause the front brakes to become extremly sharp. i cant stop the car with out it trying to throw me through the wind screen, is this due to the system being over filled?

Hi

i've got a 94 xantia 1.9 td

does any one know a rough sort of price and where i can get the replacement arm that the wing mirror (passanger side) is attached to the body of the car by? not the actual mirror as that is intact.

also is it a pig of a job to replace?
