Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi, i have a question regarding my '98 xm sedan.

I seem to be having a problem in the rear.
While overall hydraulics seem to be fine the rear seems to be sometimes positioned too high combined with an occasional hard ride.
It seems to ride to high than drops in one swift motion and then rises back to the previous hight within some 5 sec or so....

Can anybody advise as to where one could obtain a repair (maintainence) manual for the Citroen C5. Iv'e checked the Haynes website & although they publish manuals for the later Cs, no mention is made of the C5, surprising considering it's on the market since 2001.

Where would the motor operating the flap for hot/cold be found on the
airbox on the bulkhead?

I'm guessing it's the nearside footwell but does anyone here know if it's
possible to access the flap or the motor to tug it to determine if that is
the failure that's stopping heat getting into the car?

cant see it having automated temp control (my m reg one didnt) if you can still feel resistance when you change from hot to cold the cable must be ok

could be a blocked heater matrix (any rad weld in it :D )

could be failed thermostat

check that the pipes from and to the matrix are both hot...if they arent i would guess its the thermostat...

On this model the intermediate section of the exhaust is integral with catalyst. This means that if the joint to the silencer at the rear corrodes you have to replace the catalyst as there is no seperate intermediate section. The alternative appears to be to get the whole thing out and do a bit of careful welding.
It appears that the 2.0 16v does...

Hi

It's a long time since I have posted on this forum. However, I have been reading it on occasion.

Anyway, Today the first day without rain in 3 weeks I decided to do the front discs and pads on my '99 Xantia HDi Excl. This job I have done many times before.

This time when undoing the upper caliper retaining bolt on the O/S the torx bit (t55)...

Is the 1994 Xantia TD high pressure pump repairable.I've looked through some previous post but cant find anything.
I believe my pump is the early type,6 piston with 2 connections only.I say this because it appears to be weeping LHM fluid and I've checked the renowned...

Thanks Simon - looks like I've been misleading people. The one mentioned in the DS book is the 'Can' type - which is generally regarded as impossible to service.

In reality I expect the most difficult bit would be finding springs for it.

Can anyone help me to find the code for my radio. It is a 3035 and the model is PU-1561 A. The serial number is 0016535 and it has another number above the serial which is 96 279398 80 The radio was working when I bought the car but I had to get a new battery and now it needs the code putting in. My dad has a 1997 Xantia TD.

He has had it from about 100k and it has now done 180k.

Ever since he bought it, it has been reluctant to start when warm, often needing up to 10 seconds of turning over before it would fire. Cold starting is fine.

More recently, the problem has gradually got worse, to the point that it often completely refuses to...

I find, Steve, that if you are careful, the cam will move very little as you undo the centre bolt.

I would get the cam in time with the 8mm timing pin bolt well screwed into the hole and start undoing the bolt. It is actually not that tight (hence my caution about tightening it).

Hi,
As I still haven't put gearbox back in the 97 Xant 16v VSX, I was wondering if the stupid pull clutch couldn't be changed for a Normal push type. The bell housing should be the same, with just the different release bearing fork-clutch assy--I think. When I get a bit of time, I will have to look at new Cit Pr to check on this. Any ideas...

sorry me again :oops:
i am convinced no certain that my aerial lead has broken as it bends in two and is very floppy just behind radio.
is the lead a complete piece that runs from roof to radio or is it possible it is joined behind dash ie male to female plug

never had much joy repairing leads before and was hoping i didnt have to have roof and...

The antenna lead used is a very special coaxial cable. Its a floffy outer insulator of rather large thickness. The outer sheath is commonly alufoil on plastic foil. The inner is just a single thin gauge wire. Very odd cable to try repair with anything you know off :evil:

It is in fact the best solution to slide a new cable through.

Well it is to me.
I recently changed the rear brakes on my temptation 2.
Other than having to replace the retaining pins and push the pistons back in in order to fit the new pads everything went along smoothly......
Until I put the wheels back on.

Well I put all the bits I bought from GSF on my car and also cleaned the LHM res and the filters which were dark grey.
Stripped down and cleaned the height corrector which also had grey deposits in it.
Refitted the HC and replaced all the old pipe seals with new ones,(remember I used PTFE!!!) :oops:

Seems I find it difficult to engage 3rd gear, most of the time only half in and when I release the clutch, it bounced back to neutral, whacking my hand. Sometimes can engage but with difficulty. When my sat nav is showing me as doing 60mph, my 2.1TD's speedo is saying 70.

Hi Chaps
Went back out to the Xantia today after parking it up half an hour earlier and it was completely dead when I turned the key. Car is a '99 V reg 2.0 16v Exclusive Auto. The remote unlocked the doors ok and the interior and exterior lights work ok, so there's power from the battery. Seem to remember someone else had a problem like this some...

the plastic link on the rear height corrector keeps popping of my xantia i've tried a new link but it still pops off, the linkage is free as i can move it with my hands to get it back on again and the car will go up and down normally, it's the height corrector end that keeps coming off not the end that goes onto the roll bar, it's doesn't seem...

I have been told that the Garrert Turbo is a better unit than KKK ?

The Garrett has a rubber pipe between the turbo and the waste gate actuator into which you can introduce a (boost controller) restriction into thus delaying the wastegate opening and increasing maximum boost, mines in a long pipe routed up to where it can be easily got to in order to adjust boost, the KKK has a built in actuator, in order to tune...

After first drive of the day, car was parked for appx two hours and I saw a wet patch under the f/n/s wing but thought it was the usual air con water dripping. It isn't. It's LHM fluid I think and it's dripping quite heavily but can't see from where exactly without getting it up in the air.

The pipe had split at the foot end, that's why it appeared to be routed wrongly. I bought a new one from Citroen parts for £10 and used three tie-wraps as I couldn't retighten the original clip.

What bothers me about this design is there are no locators!

There's the strut with a hole and you have to guess where to fit the pipe foot over this...

Hi All ~ I have a Xantia 2.0 HDi 110 hp year 2000 X plate - done 67,000 miles around southwest Scotland.
Funny noises one day led me to check the front brakes, to find that the ABS Ring on the offside CV Joint had a break in it and was slack.
I took it off as I was scared that it would jam up in the system.
So my ABS no longer work and light on...

Thanks for all the replies and info. Resolved the problem. (GSF reckoned that it would have to be the full Drive Shaft - easy to get for the 90 hp but not for the 110 hp version). However, they put me on to Glasgow Power Steering. They, were able to fit a new CV Joint complete with ring in situ (48 teeth for 110 hp 2.0 Litre HDi year 2000 Xantia...

Due to emission requirements it was phased out towards the end of the 1980s to be replaced by the CVH engine and DOHC engine, the latter being (contrary to popular belief) not a twin-cam development of the Pinto unit....

I've got my anorak on at the moment and have a bee in my bonnet about ECU diagnostics on my Activa.

I've been reading up about EOBD ECU diagnostics recently and become quite hooked on the subject but information on just how compliant a 2000 model Xantia may be is sparse, confusing and contradictory.

Mine seems to have the required SAE J1962 16...

Hello,
Could someone tell me what the plastic clip is called on the back suspension of a Xantia, It's the one in the middle of the car with the a cup at each end that pops onto two kind of balljoints, when it pops of the back of the car doesn't rise. I need to buy a new one but don't know what to ask for.

Thanks for that. Is the part numbers for GSF? No - its the genuine parts numbers & customer rates from your local Cit dealer.
GSF wont have these somewhat special parts. They only stock parts with a reasonable high turnover.

PS : the felt washer would be some 35p incl vat. No fear then 8)

For anyone interested the National Rally is on this weekend at the Wood Green Showground, Godmanchester, near Huntingdon. In English it's the Wood Green Animal Shelter (look for the large windmill) on the A1198 about a mile south of the A14.

Entry is open to all including non members from 2pm on Friday with camping facilities through to the...

Can anybody help me please? I have a '98 Xsara 1.9 D LX with a locked rear passsenger door (nearside). The car has central locking and all the doors and the boot are unlocking themselves by the 'plip'. Even the one that won't open is unlocked and will not open even when the handle is used (this applies to both the outside handle and the one inside...

Good to hear Simon, I've gone back to using the remote locking all the time and it seems fine .....obviously just needed a good lubrication :oops: so to be on the safe side I dosed up the other rear door as well.

Under load when i put my foot down and engine under 2000 revs it starts to misfire and need to change down and rev engine even from stand still if not enough revs it will do it put new plugs and ht leads in still the same also it idles very iratic under 1000 revs

Simple question this one(I hope).My turbo has blown big style-tons of smoke/revs and oil everywhere.Does the XUD engine usually survive.

Yes they survive as long as the intercooler caught most of the oil and the bits that broke off.

Happend to me a while ago. I drained 2 litres of oil from the intercooler.
I checked that the cylinders were ok by releasing the glowplugs and hand cranking to make sure nothing was in the cylinders and i got all the oil out.

Good luck fixing it.

At what mileage should I change my cambelt? I have Xantia 1.9TD 1995 I last changed belt at 146,831 my mileage is now 176,314.

I have changed oil and filters every 3000 miles and car runs very well.

With respect, that is not what I said, nor inferred if you re-read what I originally posted Anders. In effect I asked you if the increased mileage between belt changes (now confirmed by wheeler) viz:

the 2.0 & 2.2 HDi t/belt changes are 100,000 miles
the 1.4 & 1.6 HDi belts are due at 150,000 miles
the 2.7 V6 HDi is due at 160,000 miles

Hi forum users,

I have been renovating my brakes front to back (Front disks, pads, rear pads + corrosion , + new front brake hoses), and not they are realt nice and sharp. Think the rear renovation did the largest difference.

Had a problem with the left brake hose, simply could not get a spanner at the inner nut, gearbox/driveshaft in the way :(...

Hi does anybody know about the rear windows electrics, the rear windows switches both on centre console, and on the doors do not light up nor work, have checked the fuse this is ok, I take the relay powers both front and back? the switch on the dash board may be the next part that may not be working the way it should, it does light up but thats...

Hi,

Sorry for the 3 in 1 post, felt it to be better doing it this way than to look selfish starting 3 threads one after another. Here goes:

1. As the title suggests, my drivers side back door is stuck close, both from the inside and out, it unlocks ok, well the 'thing' pops up.

Only clue I have to the problem is that it's ok if I park at angle...

I have got a 1.9 GTi 8v which isn't running too smoothly at the moment and I was looking at the electrical circuit diagram for the the fuel injection and there was a couple of things that didn't make sense to me. The circuit diagram I think is in the Haynes manual but is also on page 4 of this document, which looks like an extract of the Citroen...

It is a good idea to change this O ring as it is notorious for causing leaks and over time, filling the distributor with oil. This oil does not seem to cause many issue in the distributor though, it is just messy :)

I'd replace the vacuum capsule and pipe as matter of course Rob. They're not expensive but do make sure you get the right one.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed the comfort of my 97 Xantia TD get gradually worse. Citroebics helps for a short while. Current spheres are on 20 months and have 72K on them - they are non genuine spheres. Fluid is due a change too - but looks good and green !.

It might be worth bleeding the rear brakes if one of the sphere had ruptured. I would have thought if enough gas had come out to give bubbles in the tank there is a reasonable chance some may have got in to the rear brake circuit.

I entirely agree with Anders - don't use ATF.

However I'm always curious why ATF is the choice for power steering systems which don't need friction modifiers. Perhaps its why my ZX pump bearings failed at 88,000 miles! I did wonder about re-filling with LHM but as the new pump will probably outlast my ownership of the car decided it wasn't worth...

Can anyone tell me if the ticking sound is normal front the accumalator when my 2.0 hdi on a T reg is at tickover? it ticks once every 25 seconds or so. Regards Mark

I'm getting the impression this car just doesn't want me to maintain it. :twisted:

A few days back, after a blower-related failure, I disabled it by disconnecting one red wire from the blower and the vents still gave demisting heat when on the move.

Yesterday I removed all the wires and the blower itself.

Today I can only get cool air no...

There was a thread about these engines a few years ago - seems many ended up in Majorca!

Its a nice example of quality control working - realise you've made a mistake - so rather than correcting it you send the engines where it'll probably take many years before the fault appears - by which time you've left the company.

I have to go rescue a friends car tomorrow. Its a 94 2.0i 8v auto that wont start. Last time it ran it rar for 2 or 3 seconds, stalled and woudnt restart.

He checked fuses and found one fuse for the fuel pump burned on the engine bay, replaced it and it still would not start.

Is there any inertia switch in early Xantias or some other part that...

As for the blown fuse - it will have blown for a reason, maybe the fuel pump has died or the wiring to it is faulty ?

I am back. Car's running. You were right. The fuel pump was locked solid. I could not get the exact pump as a spare part (except from Citroen itself, special order, US$400 + tax) so I adapted a ZX pump, same diameter but...

A good pal has offered me his P plated estate which works happily but is
managing to mix the oil and water and although NOT confirmed it's probably
pressurising the water jacket thus confirming the HG is a gonner. I have
suggested he changes the oil/water heat exchanger on the front of the
engine but I'm not sure he bothered doing this; it has...

I can confirm that the tacho works from the TDC sensor and that it is the same one in both types of engine. I wish you success in doing the conversion, I think it will improve it, the mechanically governed engines are potentially much more reliable. Both my '96 XM's have mechanical pumps on the 2.1 engine, something you dont get with a Xantia!

Just about to buy a full set of tyres for the Xantia SX 1.9TD Estate I bought a few months back. It has the standard 185/65x15 T rated at the moment but wondered about going up to the HDi spec 205/60s.

It's on steel rims... I assume the rims stayed the same for the wider tyres??

Has anyone done this upsizing to give an opinion??

After spending a while to source a set with a very good wet grip reputation I was so close to doing the 195/60 upgrade like you. I looked at online tyre size calculators to see often a 1965/60x15 is actually closer to the rolling radius of the original tyre than the other standard fittment of 205/60x15.

my 2.1td estate has just failed it's MOT on play in the steering rack on the nearside, the tester told me the play is not in the track rod end but at the other end of the tie rod, i've ordered one from euro car parts, anyone changed one and how easy is it to change :)

When I bought the car I was told of a small plastic clip that had come off and simply needed popping back on and fixing in place

Well I did that but ok but today I noticed it's off again :evil:
It's a PITA working under these cars without a proper ramplift.

Does anyone know what the real fault is and how do I stop it coming off again? I've...

Great, I'll do exactly that as it was evident from the rusty balls that it's been neglected and probably the very cause of the failure I hope I've now cured.

From the fact I could lever the corrector mechanism, can I assume this as evidence nothing else has seized?

For the sake of a £1.99 arm and a few drops of oil while crawling under a car.......

Further to my growing problems with my exixting 2.1 I am considering buying another instead. It would be cheaper than a new EPIC pump (which I have just found out is £500+)
The car I have in mind is a runner except the clutch slave cylinder had gone.

How big/easy/expensive is it to replace

Here's a good one!... I put the demisters on full blow and now it won't turn off. I can redirect and change the temperature etc. but I can't turn the blower fan off - it's stuck on full power. Until today, it's always worked fine.

I have climate control with A/C and had previously noticed the fan blower only operated after a short delay from...

Fixing the rain leaking in was a priority and a bead of silicone sealant cured that just fine, then I replaced the blower transistors as per forum...

Hello again,

Just want to get some thoughts on what you folks consider acceptable oil consumption for 1600i petrol engine, and the best oil for it.

Mine has done 90k with FSH, it doesn't visibly burn oil. Though it appears to have got through about half a litre in about a thousand miles of mainly longer runs.

I don't thrash it (esp. when cold)...

I used that tesco stuff - better than the old oil in there I reckon, though the purists here may scorn.

Odd thing was, with filter replaced, those 4 litres was enough to refill my sump to the correct dipstick reading though I only let the hot oil drain for an hour or two, it was still dribbling then so guess there was a fair quantity of old oil...

Hi all. I have currently got a citroen xsara 1.9td 1998 exclusive. I s there any way you can tweak the engine/turbo to give it a bit more get up and go. It pulls very strong from about 2200 rpm to about 4000 rpm just wouldt mind having a bit more grunt lower down the revs. any ideas would be greatly recieved.

Yes there are some tweaks to be done. Do a search for diesel tuning, boost compensator, full power screw, etc. Beware it may void your warranty and fail the next mot emissions tests.
