Am I stupid or WHAT!?

Post by citroenxm »

I tell you, I SOOOO want to write to haynes and tell them how unbelevable UN ACURATE and rubbish their publications are!!

Why am I moaning?! Because Ive been trying all bloody morning to split a 1995, M reg 2.oi Turbo engine from its auto box...

What the hell, remove the plug from the rear of the block to gain access to the tourque converter bolts!! Im dammed if I can find one! I had the auto box in the air, on its back, engine standing on the crank pully YES LITTERALLY with the gearbox in the air! I couldn;t bloody find one, I removed the fly wheel cover, and can get a spanner on the bolt, but every time I tried to undo the bolt the spanner just pulled itself off at an angle! I NEED to get a socket on it, BUT wooo ho, theres no Blydi room.]

I gave up, and decided the only way Im gonna do it, is to get my hoist back and lift the engine up, drain what oil is left in it, and drop the sump off to get a blydi socket on the bolts!

Useless blydi books, how the hell can people prepare them for a Job when they cant get it right!!

Anyway, rant over! Im not asking for help, just sharing my frustration with you all

Rant over!
Have a good evening!

Is there not a half-moon plate on the bottom of the gearbox to allow access to the TC bolts Paul?

It should not need the sump removing...

I know what you mean about the BoL though. I never look at it now, well, the only useful thing in it is the comprehensive list of codes for electrical items...

Not called the BoL (Book of Lies) for nothing

Nope!

I can get to them via the Flywheel cover area, but my spanners just go sideways off the bolt head when I apply force! So I will have to use a socket, but of course the sump is in the way, I thought I was missing something so EVEN got a floodlamp to get a good light on the block but NOPE!

Starter motor house gap doesn't even go far enough down to reveal the bolts!

Nothin wrong with autoboxes And, I would assume you've driven an auto, but was it an auto-adaptive, (that worked correctly).

Just because I have loads of auto Citroens doesn't mean I like them!
Just evidence that I'm a glutton for punishment like the rest of you guys!

Guess which one is to all intents and purposes dead and unlikely to
work again anytime soon - yep, that's right the Xantia 24v AUTOADAPTIVE.
The box is fine, just doesn't want to damnedwell start...

Godknows why, battery went dead and I'm now locked out by the
transponder immobiliser. Nice whilst it lasted but less than a year
down the line it looks like the fun is over.

Hi Paul

Your right there is no plug but there is a hole (not the half moon underneath) at the back of the engine where the bell housing overhangs the block i got in there with a socket without any hickups from the engine side.
There is three bolts to undo but im sure you now know this? other than Torque converter trouble how is the engine swap going?

Well i do hope you know what NOT to do to it... scrap it for £2k. Ewww!

Sometimes the aerial for the transponder inside the car near the steering column works up, it happened once for me when I had my V6. Worth a try.

Some guys will know the Haynes book "build your own sportscar".

Many years ago while builing the 7 type, myself and of course many others before me noticed that there were so many errors in the book it wasn`t real.

On phoning Haynes they said they had never heard of the errors before  Ten minutes later the author of the book Ron Champion phoned me from Spain and explained some of the mistakes. He was on the phone for twenty minutes and we ended up talking about old Landrovers as we both had them

I know you didn't ask for help, but I think you are either using the wong spanner (thin heads need a spanner with good teeth to the edge of the ring, and for this you want a straight spanner with (almost?) no angle on the ring), or the assembly is not stable enough for you to apply enough sideways pressure to keep the spanner on.
