Xantia windows

Unread post by edza20 »

Hi there, i'm new to this forum and to citroens, and have recently purchased a 1997 xantia 1.9td. I cant get the front electric windows to work, both of them, and there is no light on the switches when the head lights are on.
Is this a common problem with these and can anybody point me in the right direction on how to solve the issue? I dont have any fuse maps and dont know where the relays are, so I thought i'd start here!cheers

hi, the fuses are under the drivers right knee, there a little thing to turn, and a door magically opens down, you may find an owners manual there showing the location of the other fuse boxes, and the relevant fuses

Failing that a common problem is the switches.

The switches SHOULD be lit up CONSTANTLY when ever the ignition is on..

Hand book may or may not be in the said location, they are useually missing..

Has the car a lot of miles?? If theres been a lot of Drivers door opening and closing, the likly chance is the Wiring between the front door and pillar could VERY well have broken wires in it, so much to a point that a main feed could be exposed and causing the Window Fuse to Blow..

thanks for the great responses! Yes the car has quite high mileage, so it could well be the door opening that has caused the problem, and no the owners handbook is not there. Does anybody know which fuse operates the windows?

With the highish miles then I reckon on the harness being broken between the door and the A pillar, peel back the door to pillar grommet and investigate the wires, im sure you'll find a couple of broken ones..

There is a BIG problem though, with these types of harness's Ive NO IDEA what type of quality of wire Citroen used for them but they BARELY solder together!!

You next best bet is to retrive a harness from a car BUT CUT IT inside the drivers foot well so you've pleanty of wire to makes joins inside the car!

Ive just Let one go which had a low 95k on the clock!! DOH! :x :x

Quite possibly yes.I am not sure if the power supply to the passenger window switch is run via the switch on the drivers side

The fact that you have no light on either switch would suggest you have no power to either side.
If the fuses are ok then the next thing to check would be the wiring to the switches to check for power

Yes, the front passenger DOES go through the drivers side switch for the passenger side...

Im certain this problem IS the harness between the door and pillar! SOOO many PSA cars suffer from it.. the 306 was the worse, they seem wrose when they have the PLUGS on the doors for the harness... ALTHOUGH the XM doesn't suffer too much because the wires in the door to pillar gap is much LONGER then the 306..
