Rear Suspension on Citroen Xantia estate 2.1td

Post by gerry1148 »

I have a 98 Citroen xantia estate 2.1td the rear suspension will not stay up in the normal driving position, I can move the lever in the car and she will move up and down, but she just will not stay at the driving position, which is making the ride very boucy and uncomfortable, has anyone any ideas what might be causing this?
Thanks
Gerry

Hi Gerry and welcome to the forum

It sounds to me as if the small plastic clip that connects to the rear height corrector has either broken or come off. It's not expensive to buy or even have fitted at a garage but you will have to check the height corrector hasn't seized or is sticking and free it off or it will break the new link too.

Hi, Welcome to the mad house!

Yes, it sounds like your "Autoimatic" height setting is not operating..

BACK THE CAR OVER RAMPS!!

You will find a Clamp on the anti roll bar, with a plastic clip on it..

Two things likly to have happened, simple the clip has worn and popped off the lever that controls the height valve, or worse still the Clamp itself has BROKEN

This is caused by the two levers that control the height valve will either be STIFF in operation, or siezed up!

The unit is a PIG it get off, but theres no need to disconnect any feed pipes in dooing so, and removal of the unit is the easyest way of De-Siezing the levers..

Get under first and see whats what - BUT DO NOT GO UNDER WITHOUT CAR SUPPORTED!!!!

The height correctors them selfs DO NOT CAUSE a problem! Has prooved, moving the lever in the car operates the suspension, so my guess is either the clamp or the clip..

I wonder if this is anything to do with the cold weather as exactly the same thing happened to my HDi today.

Had to drive a few miles with the rear bouncing all over the place.

No its down to a matter of time, as the Levers get wet, and siezure sets in, (also hard ISH spheres wont help as the rear cant move much so the linkage wont be kept moving when the back end goes up and down..) Thats a personal theory of mine..

you can short term over come it, be moving the height lever in the car to the rear, let the back rise, return the lever to the middle..
