Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Ok got it..its asking for RP Number?...what is that and where do i find it

....i just stuck a number in and it got past that screen, though wasn't able to really do anything

How do I describe the problem of the C5 Wheels not being centred to a tyre person so they can balance my wheels right?

The only positive thing about the tyres is they grip on corners really well. Others have felt as if they slide and jump round corners at speed, but not these.
They are Goodyear Optigrips.

I would not be surprised if the wheels are duff. They have hit kerbs that I know of, and they were far from perfect when I got the car.

Another question about the Xsara being taken over by my Sister... :)

It's a 2002, so multiplexed, but only an LX so fitted with the boggo tape deck. Sister has a 3 year old she keeps entertained with nursery rhymes etc - all on CD, which don't seem to fit in the tape deck! Can you just replace the head unit with a std DIN fit unit? How do you...

It's a DIN sized hole & the radio fits ok but it will leave a gap around it & i dont think there is a decent adaptor plate available for it.
As said there is no ignition live so you need to run one up from the fag lighter but you also need to isolate the multiplexed wires from the new radio so that the only wires from the cars ISO plug connected...

Ive just replaced the rocker gasket on the S1 black Xantia TD, then used the aerosol spray gunk...

Did a wonderfull job on the head, didn't realise it was an alloy head under that oil !! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I thought it did a great job - and I just poured a watering can over it to wash it off...

I just bought a very nice (well I thought it was) ZX td for a friend of mine, my wife drove it the 150 miles or so home with no problems whatsoever, until she drove over the farm track that leads to our house, she said it rattled, I've just been out in it and it does, but only on very rough surfaces.

The C5 estate is having issues with its climate control, im wondering if anyone can shed any light on what is the cause and how i go about fixing it.

With the warm weather ive had the climate set to 16 and AUTO, however the passenger side has a mind of its own. Driving along today i thought it felt very warm, even though the AC was on, however...

At a guess I'd say the airflow director flaps are not being moved properly by their stepper motors. Common enough problem. Apparently the drive gear is plastic (isn't everything?) and strips fairly easily.

Hot water flows continuously through the matrix and you are unlucky enough to be having it directed into the car instead of the cold air from...

i would have thought by now there arnt any of the earlier XANT's running around on there original pads, be it with or without asbestos,

as i though all replacement pads were now and have been for quite some time, been asbestos free,

Hi...

Got a small problem with a Xsara, if I lock the car with the key IN the drivers door the car will lock and unlock as normal...

If I lock the car with the PLIP, the drivers door WONT lock, so as useual, 3 doors and boot lock then unlock again...

If I lock the car with the jey in the door, then use the PLIP to open it, the car unlocks but...

I intend to sell the Clarion CD player that came in my C3, and the 5 disc Blaupunkt CD changer.

I looked on eBay to see roughly how much I'd get for them, and all the Clarion's for sale that came out of Citroens seem to say they will need VIN Coding to the new vehicle.

Will whoever buys mine on eBay need to do this, and is it easy to do if I...

The VIN stored in the radio needs to match the one in the BSI or you get an anoying beep every few seconds although the radio will still work. You normally need a Lexia or Proxia to do this via the OBD plug but i don't know if the audio guys use something different. The CD changer is a bit different, It's not coded to a specific VIN but the cars...

general question on suspension,,on 95 m reg xm 2.0 turbo
when car is parked on drive i have noticed that the rear suspension sinks first (totally sunk after about 4--5 hours although the front can take 8 hours plus to lower,,
is this normal (i use the term normal loosely when talking about a citroen..)
i just thought that they would sink at the...

Really didn't need this month to get any worse due to loads of personal crap but anyway.....

Serviced the Xantia HDI today. Discovered that the old engine oil was smoking. Decided to replace anyway and see what happened. New engine oil is also smoking....

There is also a squeek from the engine bay when the car is cold but this disappears. My...

Another thought - there'll be greater load on auxillary belt immediately after start up, whilst alternator puts charge back into battery. This would increase load on idler/tensioner pulley bearings. So query condition of bearings. Could the auxillary belt's tensioning system be wrong. Is it auto-tensioning? IMHO, auto-tensioning wouldn't...

Shouldn't be to difficult, if its a turbo you will need to remove the intercooler, then after removing any hoses, remove the bolts and lift the cover off. You will only need a screwdriver to remove the pipe clips and spanners to fit any nuts and bolts.

Hi i have a 51 plate C5 and was wondering if i could have this feature, noticed later C5s have this but mine doesnt, would be handy being a taxi driver, i know people have had cruise retro fitted with very minimal parts and a spell on the old citroen computer, so does any one know if its possible?

jim, there are so many more addatives on the market these days that promise so much in reconditioning seals and stopping leaks, some are quite expensive addatives,

the reason why I asked was accertain which was considered to be the best of the bunch that is if anyone has plundered 20 quid on a bottle of it.

My Dad is having trouble with the keys on has 2002 Xsara. He had a new alternator a few months back, after which none of the keys would open the car (don't know which would start it). He got at least one of the keys reprogrammed and working, but is now trying to get the rest going, as he is selling the car to my Sister in a few weeks. He took it...

There are two aspects to consider.

1) Does the car turn in the column lock and start the car? If it doesn't a Lexia is neede to pair the key to the car.

2) Does the remote lock/unlock function work? If it doesn't, and providing aspect 1 is working, then you pair the key to the car by inserting the key into the column lock, press the unlock...

i have had a eye blinding look through the forum to find many posts about similar problems but none with the relay van, so i do need the good help of those who knows loads more than me about this....

basically on the steering column the wiper switch arm has two positions that do nothing and then two that do the slow and fast sweep of the...

Hi Guys
Our 2005 C4 2l HDi Exclusive 5 door has decided only to provide air through the windscreen vent regardless of settings. This happens when set to auto or manual selction of vents. It is not just the screen clearing button selected. That does seem to have some effect in that if the fan speed is set manually then you press the screen button...

We had exactly the same problem on a Peugeot 407 pool car at work, which is pretty much the same car as yours, I think. :?
The garage cured it while I waited by plugging into their computer and resetting the appropriate ECU. The same fault then developed again a few weeks later in involving another reset but it's now been OK for over a year.

I'm picking up an early C5 HDI at the weekend, and wondered if anyone can tell me if it's OBD II compliant, at least as far as reading basic fault codes etc.
Can anyone help, please?

i thought the European standerd is EOBD, as the E states European,

but as stated earlier it was legislated all European cars

petrol from 01
diesel from 04

must be E/OBD compliant

even though the car manufacturerd in there wisdom still thought they would be clever, and have manufacturerd dedicated pins (cheaky)

Does anyone who owns a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, 2007 or later model, experience double vision/distortion of oncoming headlights and tail lights when driving at night. Particularly on dark roads with no street lights. Troublesome to the point where a wrong decsion could be made with regards to oncoming traffic!

sounds like you may have type 2 diabeties developing and you may not be aware of it, maybe its time for a test? this is how I found out I had type 2. double vision at night whilst driving.

Hi all, I have a C8 giving me grief with anti pollution fault (now fixed) and after a few hundred miles 'Fuel aditive minimum level' great! I have filled the aditive tank & reset the counters with a snap on scanner, but the display just keeps re-appearing? Either i'm doing something wrong or the additive ECU (if it has a seperate one?) has packed...

I'm not sure on the mpg, its not bad imo though, for such a big car with a small diesel engine in. Performance is much better as before it was warning 'unblock diesel filter' (the partical filter)
I will update if any related faults turn up, if not, no news is good news!

I have a 3 year citroen deal which ends in november 09 for a c2 petrol , I think I can pay the £2700 final payment and keep the car or trade car in for a new c2 , what sort of deal am I likley to get ie I paid a deposit then £160 monthly for 36 months then £2700 final payment for my current c2

right then

ive got an 02 C5 1.8

its got climate but the passenger side has a mind of its own
sometimes it does as the temp setting requires
other times it just blows full heat.
am i looking at a replacement full dash unit from ebay/scrappy or is there a fix?

ive seen the rear doors not opening from the outside is an issue.

Mine has the Eco button.
I kills the AC compressor and just uses normal ventilation for cooling.
Saves a few mpg, supposedly.

I use it mainly to allow the condensor to dry out. Hit it for the last couple of miles on a trip.
Otherwise you can get condensation/ice lingering there that wets the pollen filter and promotes fungal growth along with...

I have found the problem, its the Thermal Fan switch .
I guess I will need to drain some coolant off ?
is it best to undo the bottom hose .

I'm helping a friend with his 2.0l HDi Xantia.

The fronts riding very high on the normal setting, the wheel arch is four and three quarter inches above the the top of the tyre tread.

Everythings fine on the high setting (the arch is six inches above the tyre tread), everythings fine on the low setting.

Hi Brian,

Yes, but plug the pipes to and from it as failure to do so will cause air to be sucked into the inlet tract, upsetting the mixture.

It's better to plug the pipes than disconnect the purge electrovalve as this will prevent the engine ECU from recording a fault and possibly causing the ECU to fail to limp home mode.

What a weird title!

My problem is that advancing years mean new technologies are difficult to grasp. In this case;

newly-acquired 90HDI Xantia (September 2000) has a radio/cassette fitted. Rather want a CD player / multichanger, but expensive and means some fitting needed, probably special cabling / plugs.

Hi all. Need some advice from the pros. Just purchased an 1998 Xantia 1.9 TD (DHX/XUD9)with 88K on the clock.
It was a mess being in limp mode. With air in the diesel, glowplugs not working and was just running bad. Replaced air/fuel/oil filters, glowplugs, changed engine and gearbox oil.Starts first time and runs smooth.Revs quick however not...

This may just be a long shot but from what ive read of your problems you say that you have cleaned out the primer bulb.I believe this could be your problem as you say the bubbles are present between the filter and the pump.
You can get the primer bulb from B & Q or a good motor factors but as youve had the pipe work apart try running a clear pipe...

I would say yes it is.
I certainly had no trouble talking to my 2000 HDi xantia with a cheap ELM327 odb2 unit. Cant talk to any of the other Xantias with it though.

How old is your car? If it's a few years old and the pollen filter has not been serviced regularly, the temperature of the car won't change much. Try taking it out to see if it starts to run cold.

Hi ,
I have two challenges ;
First , electric sunroof fails to open . I can hear the motor running when I press the switch , either way .
I have noticed a curry like smell and a damp oily patch on the passenger mat . is it the heater matrix . If so how do I repair ? would it be dash out !

I've had a week off work so decided to change the filters and fluids on the Xsara.

From the 2002 model year onwards there isn't even an official internal to check the gearbox oil level any more, but I thought I would have a look to be on the safe side, and was quite worried by what I found.

Your theory on the garage using an old engine oil container to transfer the gearbox oil could well be correct. It looked almost as black as used diesel engine oil.

Why does it get worse when the engine/ box is hot? I was hoping that it may be clutch drag but it only does this when 2nd gear is engaged. Syncro/ baulk rings maybe? It does'nt give me any trouble from cold.

As has been mentioned, 2nd gear is the most likely to suffer from synchro failure, so if the other gears are OK that's probably the problem. Learn to 'double declutch' you had to do it on the cars I used to drive, they didn't have synchro on Ist.

Hi all

Im aware that the EGR has been well covered previously on its detrimental effects but have not yet read/seen an idiots guide to removal and cleaning :)
I am suffering what i can only describe as hunting/over running at idle with the aforementioned car.It doesnt show on the rev counter but its just that feeling of the engine not being...

Its usually only when warm/hot.the strange thing is that it appears from the rev counter to actually drop the revs when warmed up but i still get the feeling that the engine is trying to rev a little nothing noticeable on the rev counter just dont feel...

Hi all.

My son has just come home with a 2.0 HDI Xara Piccaso.
Bought cheap with a fault as follows:-

Vehicle has done 100k miles.. when stationary the engine will rev freely up to the red line, but on the road (under load) the engine will cut out and the engine management light will come on. He has it booked into the Dealer for a diagnostic...

Apparently! Because he collected the car as arranged at 18:00 he only got to speak to the receptionist who could only tell him that the charge of £150 was for diagnostic testing and replacement of fuel filter and the fuel filter housing!!

after lopping the end off my finger at the DSM ralleyin little horwood on the 14/6/09,us and my 1.9TD estate were droped home by RAC relay, and thats were she has sat untouched untill yesterday when i decided to see if she would start,

i thought as she had sat for nearly three weeks i would firstly pump the fuel primmer which i found to allready...

Bet you could have left the donk six months and started with a fresh battery...........great old workhorses.......and slightly refined too.

My Xant TD estate often spends 5/6 months waiting for me from France, and always starts on the button. Fitted a battery disconector switch to stop the discharge from the suspension electrics.
