Economy mode, Battery dead?

Post by Allanxantia »

c5 exclusive goes into economy mode instantly as soon as engine stops. hasn't always done this just started recently. Battery appears to be about 5-6 years old and is a slightly smaller one, to accomodate the LPG ecu. Don't want to shell out £60 to find out it isn't the battery. Any thoughts anyone?

Check the voltage across it, should be 12 - 13 volts if you have just stopped, no less than 12v after standing, and 14+ with the engine running.

It is measuring 12.65 volts when stationary engine off and 14.2v with the engine running, cannot get the chance to check voltage before eco mode kicks in as it is literally instantly when engine stops.

Had already compared this with my Impreza, which has pretty much identical readings

That sounds OK to me. Check it again after it has stood all night. Does it turn the engine over reasonable fast?

Before testing in the morning, put the headlights on for 15" to eliminate the surface charge or you will get a false reading.

I think that you will need to put a Lexia on it to reset the time before the Economy Mode cuts in. Looks as though it has reset itself to 0.

It turns over the engine reasonably fast. Can it reset itself to zero? A lexia is a tempting proposition, will always be able to sell it on. Unless there is someone in Glasgow with one

Hi Guys,

Allanxantia has been in touch to ask me about resetting the economy mode timer on his C5.

What is the economy counter? What does it actually do?

Does anyone know where abouts on the Lexia settings you navigate to for the reset feature?

Thanks in advance!

David.

just put a brand new battery in and voltage readings are slightly up, it turns over faster etc. but economy mode problem still exists.

Can anyone help David so he can help me?

Or does anyone have any new ideas?

Don't know about this economy mode, my 406 doesn't have it.

It is to prevent the battery being depleted.
Not sure exactly what it turns off but if I leave my CD player running and the engine off, it turns the CD player off after 45 minutes and goes into Economy Mode.
I have a Tom Tom Satnav and if that is plugged into the auxiliary socket then it never prompts economy mode. Could be a function of current drain.

Someone on here had a similar problem, about six months ago, with a short time to economy mode and used a Lexia to reset it to half an hour.

I don't think actual battery condition is a factor.
