Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Above vehicle with Auto Aircon

Blower is behaving badly - going to full speed and not able to be controlled by the normal methods.
I have read all the posts which refer to the blower module in passenger footwell.
I haven't yet gone looking for this but....

Iam just about to drain the coolant , fit my new thermal rad switch and refill with new Antifreeze .
Big problem ! !
the tap to drain the rad is missing or broken off .

My Xantia is 95 TD LX, non-aircon, with sensor in top of radiator on driver's side - maybe wiring similar to yours?

In the past, I checked fans' operation by removing the 3-wire plug from back of rad sensor, and shorting across the plugs' contacts, 2 at a time (can't recall which was earth...

When I lock and unlock my 94 Xantia with the remote, sometimes the drivers indicator remains illuminated after the inctacors have falshed as they should. and I have to unlock and lock it again so I catch it at the right moment.

Any ideas?

While changing my Antifreeze yesterday , I noticed a belt with slight wear .
As you look down into the engine bay , its low and left .
One thing it appears to drive is the water pump .
is this a job I can tackle ? are there any pitfalls ?
I had the Cam belt changed 6 months ago , and it cost me a staggering £180 .
If I can , I would like to try...

The amount of cars (one of mine included) that have snapped/dislodged the cambelt, as a result of the Aux belt snapping and getting caught up, is astonishing... caused by age of belt or as Featch says, tensioner/roller failure..

Hi

I have a 2003 C5 with climate control which is driving me insane !

It seems to be a two part issue with the aircon

Part one using manual setting ( not auto)

The blower will intermittantly stop blowing and the fan display blanks out, no other air con controls can be used unless I switch the car off and leave it for about 10 minutes , when I...

Hi,

Had similar fault on my C5 2.2hdi, just after starting from cold the temp gauge would go full scale and the stop warning come up for a second or two. Everything would then rest to normal and the problem not re-occur while engine warm.

Replaced the temp sensor (£11 from Cit) and problem fixed.

On the HDi the sensor is on the passenger end of...

Have just changed the crankshaft pulley, with a new bolt and extra thread locking compound just to be sure.

When tightening (using a long bar for leverage) I did it to 40 Nm then 60 degrees, or about

But the crankshaft moved about 20%, even with the handbrake on and fifth gear before tightening. Is this normal???

I phoned my local motor factor company for a Thermal switch for a cooling fan ; price £ 28 - 52 .
My local Citroen dealer : £ 20 - 01 .

need help with my citroen xsara 1.816valve vtr i been told a diesel gearbox will fit anyway i fitted it with normal clutch for the vtr and when i push the pedal in its grinding anyone got any ideas please realy do need help just wont go in gear when engines running

as Jim says if you have fitted a petrol clutch (normal push action) in a gearbox with the TD gearbox with the pull action release fork, then its very unlikely to work, unless you swapped the complete fork arangment from you old box, then it should work all be it the ratios mmight be wrong,

i used my drivers window a couple of days ago and it went down but wouldent come back up.

I removed the trim and found the plastic clip on the regulator was broken so went to the scrapyard and got the complete part £ 50 (in as new condition) fitted it to the car and when operated it pulled the wire out...

Hi guys

I have a problem with the clutch of the ZX. The pedal seems a little hard and when I depress the pedal, the clutch mechanism sounds like a Caterpillar engine with the clutch depressed. This sound stops when the clutch is released.

I suspect the throwout bearing. What is your opinion?

I noticed on the hoist yesterday, mine is getting a pretty decent leak. It doesn't spray out, but the drips seem regular enough.

As I understand it, eventually, they become seriously leaky. What might I expect in time taken to progress from a drip, through to urgent replacement being needed?

Xant needs some paintwork. Trying to find the correct paint code but I'm finding numbers and letters everywhere..and two different paint colours :?
The original Citroen handbook says: RP8129 DANTE RED.
But this site here says Rouge d'enfer nacre..

There's the same colour as well,further down the list, with the code as MOJA..

Officially, it was a 3 stage colour and that meant a white ground coat over the primer, the actual colour which is slightly opaque and then the lacquer coat, however many paint makers have come up with a 2 stage formulation which obviously makes application a lot easier, downside is the effect is not so strong, it tends to...

Allen key to counter-hold the drop link balljoint studs (if they have the internal hexagons in the stud - cheap ones often have not) and suitable spanners to fit the nuts.

If the old links are well corroded and do not have the hexagons, you may well find you need to use an angle grinder on them.

A jack is sometimes handy to raise the anti-roll...

I have a 2008 C5 II and am wanting to install a USB box plus a USB cable. I can remove the HU ok but need to remove several parts of the dash & centre console.

My problem is I have no idea how to remove the centre console or lower part of the dash and Haynes don't do a manual covering the C5 II yet.

I was once told that it was possiable to soften the ride in the front of an Xantia by fitting BX spheres to the front corners.

has anyone tried this or experimented to get a more floaty ride in an Xantia, did you feel sea sick or was it successful?

The wife's Xsara 1.4 02 plate exhaust has decided to fall apart. It has rusted away where the long mid pipe meets the back box and has separated, the rear box looks to have rusted as well (needs replacing). From the little I could see of it the mid box (cat?) looks okay.

My questions are, can the mid pipe and rear box/tail pipe be replaced or is...

Hi Everybody,
A friend has asked me to pose this question as she is not a member. She has a T Reg Xantia (16 valve) and has had a new clutch fitted. The pedal is right at the top and she can't find out how to adjust the auto-clutch mechanism. A friend of mine has had a look and there doesn't seem to be any place to adjust the length. Any ideas...

In theory, the auto adjuster can't be reset, but in practice it can be partially dismantled and unwound after removing the cable - not an easy job though due to the notorious clip holding it to the pedal!

What's the 'throw' of the pedal when measured? I wonder if the problem is really cable adjustment or terminal clutch wear.

Haynes manual referes to using Loctite when replacing the Crankshaft pulley bolt....

a. What is it? can i get it in Spain? if not what other product is equivalent?
b. Do i have to use it? Or can i just put the bolt back on?

As stated already, loctite is a brand name and loctite comes in all sorts of varietys from super glue to high strength retainer.

The loctite branding is identified by numbers, one that we use a lot is Loctite 603 retaining compound, this can be used on the outside of seals such as camshaft, crankshaft and diff seals, it is not allways...

I've decided that the large stone chip in the bottom middle of my windscreen that has been filled up, along with all the bits of welding sparks from when a chap sorted out my dropping door and the large collection of scratch marks is not on so im going to look at replacing the windscreen.
Never had one done before, any pitfalls to watch out for or...

Just on a quick pointer, the scuttle only REALLY needs sealing over the passenger side above the blower motor intake is push comes to shove, theres not a real issue if it breaks, it just looks DAMM untidy

I had the timing / aux. belt replaced in April, along with the water pump on my Xantia TD. I have become more aware of a rasping sound from the pulley end of the engine which I have traced to the drivebelt / bottom pulley. If I apply some maintainence spray through the o/s plastic wheel arch liner the whole lot goes quiet for a while.

Any ideas?...

Does the noise go away when you lift the revs up a bit?? If so, the belt is too loose, there is a manual eccentric pully you can use to tighten the belt a bit ..

Hence my line above..... :D :lol:

Hi all
As you maybe aware im selling my 1.9n/a Xantia but i have been asked a few questions about it and im trying to be open and honest in the description so i need to put this over to people with more knowledge than me (must be 1000's on here :lol: :lol: )

The biting point is quite high but im 100% sure its been like that every since i got it...

It may well have an auto adjuster, in which case you cant change the take up position, if the clutch is light that's a fair indication that its not worn out. A fairly good clutch will have a distinct feel to it, as the pedal gets near the floor it will get lighter, try operating it stationary and see if that is so. Its quite normal to be able to...

Has anyone bought or use a Caliper Rewind Tool & where did you get it, price? I'm about to change my discs & pads not sure if the universal one from GSF (98741) will work on the Xantia?

Simon,

before I went through the rigmarol of buying a screw in tool I used the edge of a file but when it comes to your calipers refusing to move at about half way in you will desire a threaded screw in tool at some point.

have you got a wilco's automotive store nearby? they sell the laser tool for £11 with the right adapter.

Iam about to change the engine oil and filter on my zx diesel, which oil should I be buying .

The holes are small in the journal bearings, doesn't take much to block them up, or even going through the turbo could score the shaft/bearings then your in trouble.

Ask any turbo rebuilder & oil pressure probs/oil contamination is a key factor to turbo failure.

I have a 54 xsara picasso 1.6 16v td

getting the orange engine auto diagnosis light on and the engine fault text. took it to my local garage and im steaming, charged me £35 cash sale so no bill ( self employed ) and gave me a hand written diagnosis and they tell me they are hard codes and they cannot reset needs main dealer for repair or...

I have just had to replace the gearbox and both drive shafts in a friends car due to the gearbox failing, and the drive shaft gaitors on both shafts being lose and internals worn. At first I thought this was just down to a drive shaft at fault, and so ordered a 2nd hand one through company via 1st choice spares.co.uk

Folks

I have just bought a 2002 C5 2.0 Hdi 110. I have never driven a car so comfortable. So far I think it's great and returns incredible economy.

It has 82000 miles and to date it has a full Citroen service history. I would like to have it serviced and I already have a reputable independent mechanic who can do it and stamp the book etc.

When turning on the ignition not all the warning light s come on, only 3 show up. Had the unit checked and it is not defective told it could possibly be a BSI unit being faulty but have been told this is very rare. Any suggesstions :?:

on my 97 xantia Preg on the offside inner wing there is what I take to be a relay, I dont know what it is for as I cant find any info on it, but it there must be a reason for it, and I like to know what everything is for :roll:

At a guess, it's your inertia switch. This is a device to cut the engine and fuel supply in the event of a collision.

This device can be identified by having a rubber cap on the top of it, almost looking like a push-button if you imagine hard enough...

I changed the timing belt on my mk1 V6 today.

It took about 6 hours, but I am sure I could knock an hour off next time.

The timing belt had done 85,000 miles, and the auxilliary belt had done the same (or maybe 144,000 if it wasn't changed last time). The old timing belt was in perfect condition, even the printed part number looked new. The aux...

I'll go further.

An oil that goes black is, in fact, doing its job perfectly. It's keeping the mucky bits in suspension instead of allowing them to settle in places they shouldn't.

hi i accidentally filled my diesel up with petrol (fool i know),n iv removed the fuel pump built in to the tank to empty the tank,anyway the tank is empty however i cant get the plastic ring on which screws in and holds the pump in place and was wondering if theres anything obvious im missing,apart from a few brain cells,thanks,andy

I tried 2 stroke in the fuel of my HDi a couple of years ago, seemed to make it run marginally smoother for a while but it is hard to tell.

It certainly didn't appear to have any detrimental effect, and I've previously known it recommended by diesel injection specialists.

Ok got it..its asking for RP Number?...what is that and where do i find it

....i just stuck a number in and it got past that screen, though wasn't able to really do anything
